TRM, you might want a waterproof piece of plywood in front of your rollup door. It will distribute the forces on the foamboard so it won't get crushed as bad.
Nice work Jeff. It's going to be a better situation for you guys this winter, no matter the weather. I had to laugh when you said dig a hole to fill a hole, it reminded me of my favorite movie, Cool Hand Luke ... Blessed be the non conformists :) Boss Paul: That ditch is Boss Kean's ditch. And I told him that dirt in it's your dirt. What's your dirt doin' in his ditch? Luke: I don't know, Boss. Boss Paul: You better get in there and get it out, boy.
Always impressed by your capacity for hard work. Gratifying to see progress being made as winter creeps closer. BTW, didn't hear who your assistants were -- the one on the tractor and the furry one.
Will you have to redo any of this work when the new building skin arrives? I hope not, its going to be hard to clear off that foam without breaking it.
+Ville QQ we had a very we spring which created a lot of growth. Then it dried out and didn't rain for months. Then a fifteen year old took fireworks on a hike and tried to impress his friends.
yeah, in this case i needed to take advantage of schedule/labor day and available help. We are not going to fully backfill the foam board until the new skin gets here, but all the major muscle movements will be completed. Then we just take off the top and put the new one on (sounds easy right lol) and then fully backfill up to the new storm flap
Wow, a French drain AND a Swedish skirt! You are going multinational here!
Now he just needs to stop using imperial and he is golden.
You certainly "don't let the grass grow under your feet"... great work... well done!
And the knowledge you have learned is going to make habitat # 2 go SOOO much faster and better!
Wow, your farm is so prettily situated!
Very nice job!

North Central Iowa and we have smoke in the air from the Pacific Northwest and Canada
Montana's on fire too. Bad. Worst I've ever seen it. This is what happens when logging of damaged/dead standing trees is not allowed.
The building is looking great. That should keep water out. Thanks for the tip and sharing it. See ya on the next video
Thumbs up for you Jeff! You are a real hard worker! :)

Hope you are putting filter fabric over the French drain to keep the dirt out of the drain.
+Jim Major yes it has a sock
That is a lot of work, for one day!
Won't you have to partially dig that dirt against the building back up when you reskin it
Just thinking of the drain under the in/out point/road could the pipe get crushed/degrade due to too much weight of vechicals going ove it?
Isn't this stuff going to be a problem when you go to re-skin the building?
how many BTU difference do you figure this skirt will make to your heating requierment?
Will you have to redo any of this work when the new building skin arrives? I hope not, its going to be hard to clear off that foam without breaking it.
+thatrealguydan no. We are not going to back fill all the way until we reskin
Phew! I was getting a little antsy watching all that work yesterday.
How come there are so many fires there? What actually starts them?
+Ville QQ we had a very we spring which created a lot of growth. Then it dried out and didn't rain for months. Then a fifteen year old took fireworks on a hike and tried to impress his friends.
Winter is coming. Change the angle of you solar panels now that you still can!
Def think you need time in the pool
Wow, the soil looks so red... are you on Mars ? ;-)
He doesn't call himself The Real Martian just for kicks! Oh yeah, he does it to be unique!
Personally I though you would wait, until the new skin, hope you do not Killarney the work when installing the new skin...
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, why do this work when the entire building will get a new skin? Or did we miss something?
