The philosophy that Native Americans had about resources is very interesting.
And even with their stewardship, people were still able to have abundant resources.
In modern times, the best analogy I can come-up with is comparing a Muscle Car, to a smaller car.
Both cars can do the same thing.
And the amount of fuel saved, can go to the next person who needs it.

We cannot ignore this. A couple months ago, I had an indigenous refugee patient from South America. One of the family members spoke excellent English. She was telling me about the devastating deforestation that is absolutely decimating their farms, and how large corporations pay enforcers to kick people off of their land with essentially no compensation. I look at my own life and realize how fortunate I am, but also how I need to do more than drive an EV and compost and purchase partially renewable energy for my home. I need to find ways to support causes that are at the roots of fighting corporate greed and promoting EJ. This includes kicking the habit of purchasing from convenient corporations that commit so much of the evil greed we should be fighting. I'm committed now to examining the changes I can make and my family can make to actually make a difference, not just paying lip service to it.

There's also the way they manipulate smaller locals into going on strike then take the larger ones out a few months later so that the smaller locals get a shitty deal and the big ones (where most of their money is made) get a sweet deal full of perks that the smaller ones didn't get because the negotiations were deliberately stacked against the small locals.

In my country, South Africa, rural communities are often placed under incredible pressure to accede to mining activities. Often tribal leaders will be bribed to sign over mining rights against the community's will, officials from the mining department will bus in youths to pose as community members during public meetings and to intimidate the local people, economic alternatives such as tourist licenses are withheld from them and so forth. Community organisers also face assault and often get assassinated. The way companies and the government prey on rural people who often lack the knowledge and resources to fight off these blatant attempts to steal and despoil their land is difficult to believe. This same government then comes round during election time begging for peoples' votes. No wonder voter participation have plummeted in the last decade.

I love this channel, it spells out basic, fundemental truths of our time that most university graduates will never have even considered. Criticising the system is always seen as controversial by the protectors of the status quo, what a pathetic perspective to be so fearful of judgement that a person can't even question how the world currently operates. it's sad how uneducated the public are on basic concepts at the core of our lives like what capitalism is, what it does and what it produces. This is why we need second thought, you can't get this in schools.

(Not so) fun fact: the largest act of civil disobedience in Canada began last year. Over 1,000 people (many of which are Indigenous) have been arrested for protesting the logging of an old growth forest in Fairy Creek, BC, which is a home for many endangered species. Additionally, many protesters have been brutalized in unimaginable ways by the police.
This all occurred while Canada's social democratic party (the NDP) was in power in the province. I cannot think of a better example of progressives ultimately siding with capital. Real leftist movements and parties in Canada (like the Communist Party) need to be platformed.

You should look up about deforestation in colombia. In the very deep of the southern forests of the country, where once the Guerrillas ruled, theres is massive undertaking of illegal organizations deforesting the amazon, for two main reasons, to make fileds to raise cattle masively and to plant coca. This is a HUGE problem because in brazil is happening exactly the same thing. The amazon rainforest is doomed and nobody is doing anything to stop it. This happens every day, this places are so isolated that people there just cut the trees, put fences and declared that now this is their land.
Why authorities dont stop it? even if they care about it, this places are very far away from any resemblance of civilization, there is no roads there, theres is no way a third world army can cover that amount of surface even if they wanted to.

No shot we go quietly into the night. Right now things aren't bad enough for a meaningful number of people to violate the social contracts we've all silently agreed to, and largely I think we're all clinging to hope that things improve without violent resistance, but there's a point when that changes. How bad does the climate crisis get before oil infrastructure starts getting destroyed? How big does the wealth disparity grow before the impoverished start taking what they need from those who hoard it? Maybe we're 5 years away, maybe we're a century away, and I don't know if humanity will make it through it, but I'm confident that if the tides don't eventually turn we'll at least give the elite's hell on the way out.
