  • How much money do I need to live comfortably in California? Answer in this video!
    Ask other people anything and practice English - goo.gl/ICVOVV
    I've recently been trying to calculate my spending and figure out how much money I need to be happy and to live a comfortable life. First, it's important to understand what a comfortable life is. For me it means having enough money to develop my talents and not worry about saving on food or going to low quality shops. Second, being happy for me means being able to develop my talents, grow my business. I need money on a new camera, new microphone (so you would stop commenting how bad the sound is haha!).
    I would also call people from other countries using our new service (goo.gl/ICVOVV) that instantly connects you to a random person from a different country who wants to speak English and ask them how much money they need to be happy.
    See how I scored 117 out of 120 on TOEFL:
    part 1: Reading and Listening - goo.gl/O4gmio
    part 2: Speaking and Writing - goo.gl/LRfIV0
    How I scored 700 on GMAT:

    We made 150k a year in silicon valley, with 2 cars that were already paid for and we always felt broke. It's very tough to save money in CA with the high taxes and rent over 3K a month.

    here in costa rica i own 1800$ per month as an engineer...
    Appartment= 300$
    food=200$
    water=20$
    light=30$
    Internet=30$ (5 Mbps )
    Transport=50$ (bus)
    Total spent: 630$
    At the end i got: *1170$*
    And at the end i live quite good to be honest, here you dont make a lot of money as in the USA but you can live well here. is not how much you can obtain, all depends on the costs of things depending of where you live.
    Is nice to see people from other countries telling us their stories :D

      Francisco Monge Es que la verdad no se le debe responder porque la chica está equivocada, no se puede comparar cuando se necesita en dólares en otros países porque el dólar es muy fuerte en comparación con la moneda local de otro país que no sea uno desarrollado, tu país no produce dólares entonces debe comprarlos, y son traídos mediantes las exportaciones, con lo cual el dólar sube o baja. Se podría decir cuantos sueldos mínimos necesitas para vivir bien, sería más acertado. NO es que ganes poco en tu país y que te alcance para vivir sino que tu moneda local no es tan fuerte como el dólar y parece como que ganas poco cuando haces el cambio.

    I've lived in Italy,Belgium and Luxembourg and this what i think :
    -in Milan, Italy you need only around $2,500 or €2,000 a month to live comfortably
    -in Luxembourg you need almost twice that amount, around $5,000 or €4,000 a month
    -in Antwerp you can get on with $4000 (€3,400) a month

    Hi Marina! First of all, congratulations for the great idea on this video. From my perspective, to live comfortably and make our dreams become real we need some money, but not in the amount that some people on the video have mentioned. From my personal opinion, it depends on your age, the area you live in and the persperctives you may have from life. In the area where I live, around 5~7 thousand dollars are enough to do the majority of things that anyone would like to do. Thanks, keep up the good job and have a great day.

    Retired, but rent etc. takes 72% of my monthly pension. I still manage to spend $1300-$1500 for everything, and I save $300-$500 per month for emergencies, gifts, travel, and charity. I traveled from ages 20-73 on my paid vacations. I could move to a cheaper country, and live on $500 per month and save $1500 per month. My groceries are ordered online, and any other things I need. I just need what I have.

    Marina this seems to be a simple question, but can be very complicated. It all depends on what standard of living you desire and what you are used to. And yes both California and the Bay Area are some of the most expensive places to live in the USA. You have a great attitude and maturity to realize a person does not always have to own the best everything to be happy. Often times this is just ego and a status symbol. Also I am not sure why you personally are worried about your English speach. It is very good. I realize that takes practice and more thinking if English is not your native language. Keep up the good work and nice smile.

    I don't think people can make a blanket statement saying that money isn't the key to happiness. People grow up in different cultures and socio-economic situations and some may really value money while others do not. Even if money isn't the "key" to happiness, it certainly contributes to it. Nobody wants to live barely getting by, so having more income to live comfortably might make some people really happy.

    1kg (2lb) of Tomatoes cost around 4$ in California( googled it) here in India its below 0.5$ for the good quality ones, it is a eight fold difference! but on average most things are 2 times cheaper across asian countries, not electronics though. The answer to this question will change from country to country and I tend to agree with your answer, as I like to spend a lot on healthy food.
    $3k for India and $6k USA for 2017 ( additional 7% inflation increase every year lol)

    This was a good video. Actually what had led me to your channel was when I had begun doing research on the cost of living in San Fransico. California is a great state and I think San Fransico is a great city to live in. I was recently given an opportunity to take a job in San Fransico. The salary is higher than what I make now, I would be making six figures a year with great benefits. However in San Fransico the cost of living has become so high that it would still not be enough for me live comfortably. It would mean longer commute to work, move into a smaller living space, and I would be working more. So I chose to stay in Canada, where even though I make less, my cost of living is considerably lower. I work less, and get enough vacation time so that I can take many trips around the world. Anyways once again great video, you have a very mature outlook on life, and you seem to have a vibrant and colorful personality that make your videos enjoyable to watch.

    Well, it is about DISPOSABLE income. I would be euphoric to keep my entire salary. I could afford to eat at restaurants casually, travel and not to look at a price if I like something. But after Rent(in Los Angeles) Student Debt, and other necessities I have about 20% of my salary. :( I think in San Francisco rent is even more expensive.

    I am from Serbia and I would be really happy if I could afford for myself to live without worrings about next month. Here we always need to make conpromises if we want to buy something for ourselves. For example, if I want to go to vacantion this year I need to save money for 10 months to afford it. Also, highly educated people have salaries from 400 to 600 euros which is small amount of money. Now I want to answer on your question. :) I need 1000e to live happier live here in Serbia. :) I hope that I will find a way to earn that amount of money every month.

    It's very costly in areas with high concentrations of hi-tech/business/financial companies: New York/Seattle/California (but the further south you go, the cheaper it gets in the US). Happiness is not money, but the fulfillment of life. Money largely determines your fulfillment of life as it determines where you get to live, the type of person you want to bring into your life, what kind of car you can own, etc.
    This is different across countries. Countries with subsidized education and healthcare place less emphasis on making money and more emphasis on peaceful living (with higher taxes to compensate), like Europe and Canada.
    While the US is largely a free market and capitalism because everyone is forced to pay for everything...so ultra emphasis is placed on making money. Look at how much people are paying to go to school.....this also places stress on becoming successful at a young age.
    For me, how much money = "it depends." Depends on the type of life style I value and where I want to live. Since I know I want a hi-tech career (plus I'm building my own company online), I would say 8k a month. This will be between my day job and own company as I want dual or more streams of income. Or if my own thing takes off well....I will do it a lot and earn close to that amount.
    I will say 30k a month is possible.....but that is a tremendous stress to keep making that and few careers provide that type of money. He either has to own his own company or go into the medical field/become a lawyer. If you just got money to travel and experience life.....you have plenty of fun (and it doesn't take even 100k to achieve that). My mom is a substitute teacher and she's traveling to Jamaica like 2 or 3 times a year.

    The secret to happiness is to constantly live well within your means.... so when the time comes, you'll be ready to afford the occasional splurge. Living in the SF Bay Area myself, I know how very true this is. And what exactly do I splurge on? Nothing much lately..... i'm too into the habit of living well within my means...... it's kind of addicting; i treat it like a game, challenging my own self-discipline! :P For example, while I certainly had enough money to jump on the smartphone bandwagon of the late 2000's/early 2010's, I actually didn't buy my first smartphone until about a month ago. And no.... i don't do anything social with it.... i only bought it because I could EASILY show people pictures of what I'm trying to look for at the store.... because I can't count the times when they had no clue what I was talking about........ and scrolling through a large photo on an old, flip-top, non-smartphone was just so painfully sloooooowwwwwwwwwwwww. :\ Like using a 30 year old computer on "today's" internet..... it's not gonna work out well. >_< So yeah... i bought it purely out of necessity (and out of frustration with old tech).

    I had a Russian family as a client that told me they didn't hang out with other Russians because they are really always chasing the money and talking about who has what and bragging and they don't want to raise the kids like that. I can see that because I also know a Czech and he is crazy in to money. I can see how foreigners coming to the US which is highly a capitalistic country and they see all the options when before it was a lot of struggles in their home country so they go crazy. They some how think also, they are a citizen if they pay the taxes. NO, that does not make you a citizen, to government perhaps, but not to people around you. Your money to the US do not make you wanted by the people, so please don't come here thinking we want that type of people. I do agree with your amount per month because it's San Francisco where a one bedroom can cost a million to buy. And any guy who lived a long life, knows when a woman is going for the money, especially in Silicon Valley, we'll just go for the younger girl in the future, if that's what you want, so don't think you're fooling anyone.

      And this means nothing, because America was the cheapest in my opinion, is better to compare the minimum wages and the price of common things like food, cars or rent. Earning US$1.000 in latin america is very hard and the price of things is higher.

    Wow. $6K a month to live happily in California. I guess that is why I left Southern California (where I was born and raised) and moved to Oregon after college. To me happiness is working my own hours and having plenty of time off. I also don't want too much stress. I can live well on about $4K a month. That is living simple, small apartment and free time spent hiking locally, playing Frisbee golf and doing organic gardening and on personal projects. I tend to camp out on vacations so it's mostly a matter of getting the time off rather than spending thousands on air travel and hotels. To me it's worth it to be able to only work about 25-30 hours a week and meet my needs. Of course, moving to a world-class locale where you will spend most of your off-time so you don't need to travel a lot to "get away" makes a lot of sense. That's why I moved to the fairly remote but beautiful south Oregon coast!

    6000 dolars.... o__O In Spain only politicians, people who work on tv shows, and people like this earn that amount of money ... the normal people earn around 1000 dollars/euros a month, many live with less.
