I had an 86 Shovette.........it was tougher than woodpecker lips. It had been beat to crap when I got it and was still running when I sold it.

these little 4 bangers took a beating! I did have to do headgaskets in the T1000 I had back in the day but Im pretty sure the water pump failed and it over heated and warped the head.

I had a 1978 Chevette and when it was cold out tons of steam will come out of the exhaust until it warmed up just like yours. I've never had another car put out that much Steam from the exhaust.

@@bmfspeedshop4562 your best bet is to go to Iola or one of the other shows and check the swap meet if it cant be found online.

I was just going to suggest right before you said That you put Marvel mystery oil in the gas tank that you should put 1/4 cup of Marvin Marvel mystery oil in the Oil. I once owned a 1989 Camry 3 that had 190 K90K miles on it when it started to to puff out blue smoke after after initial start up. Before the car was lost in lost in an accident and Not only did I never do a valve sealed job but but the car car slowly but surely stopped doing the puff of blue smoke thing. I decay if it would work on this but it's cheap, You already have the Marvel mystery oil so what do you have to lose. It's a guy it's a goddamn Chevy Chevette the vet and if It didn't die 30 years ago when it should hwhen it should have then it wants to live! Lol good luck✌

Definitely on the Marvel Mystery oil. Especially cold weather starts. I use that in every car I have. Those are weak but very smooth and quiet engines. That MMO will work wonders in that old engine. It will keep it clean and liquify any sludge in the engine.

Maybe if you got the car serviced and the carburetor adjusted probably, this car wouldn’t need 6 or 7 attempts to get it to start. I bet that the carburetor needs adjusted and probably some gas treatment, and then it should start on the first crank.

thanks for the advice! this car sat for over 10 years! it was also sub zero temps the night before so very cold and it had not been started in 2 weeks so it took a bit to get fuel up to the carb! since then i've fixed a few vaccume leaks, ran a few bottles of berrymans b12 and marvel mystery oil in her and it runs perfect! drove the car on my commute and took it for a few road trips with no issues! runs great carb works great!

@@bmfspeedshop4562I miss owning a Chevrolet Chevette.
The 1982 sedan I owned had a two barrel Holley Carburetor and never had an issue with it and since the Chevette has a Non Interference Engine when my timing belt broke the engine didn't get destroyed but I should have replaced the water pump at the same time as I replaced the timing belt since it's mounted behind the timing belt cover as 2 weeks later the water pump went and I had to take it all apart again to replace the water pump.

How long does it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days?
