Very nice mt, how many battery cycles can the stock electronics last without failing? (has been used about 15-20 times) without burning the stock esc or servo? Greetings (I am aware that when (Esc 2-1) fails I will have to replace the Esc and the control with an independent receiver control.
Well, that's a sweet little model. Perfect for begginers or the kids (not so kids included). A mild brushless combo, some Rustler or Mad Van shocks added to it and it should be a blast to drive! Good info and great video as usual, thanks!
There is a ton of parts support and upgrade paths for these as they are basically rebranded HBX vehicles with a few tweaks. The HBX 12815 Protector (buggy), the HBX 901 Firebolt (truck), and the HBX 903 Vanguard (monster truck). There are also RTR brushless versions of the HBX (901a & 903a) which offer metal drivetrain components and oil filled shocks.
I have the 903a and it is a BLAST! I’ve been in this hobby since 2011 but got serious in 2018 and have many top of the line rigs from Arrma, Losi, Mugen, Serpent, Tekno, Redcat, Kyosho, Ho Bao and more and this platform is a blast.
This Blackzon By Hpi catches my attention, although there are trucks like the HBX (Does the slyder have higher quality electronics than Hbx?) (how about the quality of the stock electronics?)
@@zoridor16 I don’t own a Blackzon, so I couldn’t say what electronics HPI contracted to put in it. I will say, having owned different models of HBX’s over the years, that I’ve found their vehicles to be durable and their electronics to be solid. But keep in mind these things are meant to be cheap bashers not high-end track vehicles equipped with lightning fast servo’s and high fidelity transmitters. The electronics fit the capability of the car.
I haven't tried that, so I'm not sure it would work. I mean, it will run with a lipo, I'm just not sure if the ESC will cut out at the right time or if the extra juice will cook any of the electrics.
I loved this buggy particularly in the scale (1/12) not too big but not too small. Definitely a great brand like Hpi supports these cars, I have also seen the monster truck version.... one question, these cars have much higher quality in the electronics than the Chinese 1/12 cars (like haiboxin (Hbx), Hosim, Jjrc,RIarlo or the buggies sold on aliexpress and banggood? I would definitely want one. (As long as the (Esc) variator doesn't fail on the first use)
@@Bidenmytime this person writes a comment about the AM-D12 on every video. Either they are a fanboy or they want to buy it but want someone else to buy it first.
Delightful! Looks to be what i call Tamiya Scale, Tamiya has a lot of buggies and what have yous in similar size, a blast on 2s, tho my current 5000mah 2s bricks do not fit that chassis. But i do like the look of it and changing to oil shocks could make it a fun little bugger
This car looks a lot like the FTX Tracer under the hood. Probably from the same factory. I got it for my 6yr old son. Really a fun and almost unbreakable truck. Just as this truck it has no oil damping so it kinda hard to keep it straight line. I still need see if the dampers can hold oil. By the way, I like the format of a unboxing and first drive in the same video! You got a lot new cars lately!
Thank you Gerard. This format seems to suit these smaller and cheaper cars well. I've seen a few other creators do it and I've been adapting it to these types of cars. They don't need a separate video for the unboxing, and then one for running it, etc., they're pretty simple cars and as long as I don't make the video too long, the all-in-one format will do the job. 😎
@@AussieRCPlayground Can i just ask one thing, will shocks filled with oil be useful in this car or is jsut too slow or light to make any difference? Please reply, after your review i really want one to be maybe my first car! Thanks!!!
@@AussieRCPlayground Thank you very much for fast reply!!! The one i want are from blackzon so i think they should be tuned correctly. The shocks i want are these Smyter Oil-Filled Shock Set 540186.
@@AussieRCPlayground Can you please help me. I want to upgrade to brushless, i dont want him for accelerate faster because i dont like wheelies but i want more end speed how many kv motor should i buy for this car to make it a bit faster then the 390 brushed motor he have and do i have also to buy a brushless esc? I just bought one, it's sooo fun. I'm a beginner and already hooked!!
Jnr will be happy, great first car . I guess most will like the truck version ( bigger is better in young eyes ) . Great video Vas (TM) 👍
I got two of these, but just wonder how many versions they can make of the hbx? Or redcat as it started its life

you should try the mjx 14209 , its a desert truck; its fast crazy fun
You should try swapping tires and wheels to something with more power to see how well they handle more power...just a thought...
Quick cheap ez to do...
I just got this but wanna go brushless. Can you recommend something ?

Can you run the stock esc with lipo battery? These come with li-ion batteries out of the box.

The rlaarlo am d12 blows this thing out of the water.
Maybe so, but it costs 75% more. This truck retails for $199aud, the AM-D12 is $229usd ($350+AUD). Not exactly a fair comparison.
Comical co compare things at entirely different prices 😂😅
It's not a boat...

Yes, oil filled shocks will help a lot. It will stabilise the car and improve grip and handling (provided they are tuned correctly).
