Got this game on launch. Played to max level. Hated every second. Played again in college. Was brutally painful. Now that I’m 30, this is the best game ever made. 10/10 recommend
You can ask for help and in most cases there will be 2-3 people who will show up, help you finish your thing and go back to their stuff. You don’t even have to ask sometimes as people can join in, help and leave without a word while supporting you all the time.
I am now playing this and just reached lvl40 necromancer, I love the game, so many places to explore. I am playing it on my own pace, and I really like my storyline. Although it would be nice if I will have friends in the game soon, so it would not be so sad sometimes. 😅
I used to play it like month or two and then I had a year or so break, but this skyscale "unlock" made me so addicted to this game. Everything is so easily accessed, even farming materials is so much fun now. I mean I play unhealthy hours a day since soto release and I still have many things to do. The community is so friendly that even a little toxic pokes in some squads / guilds make me uncomfortable. I can't think about getting to other games lately, because I have no time for them now. I visited some other games (WoW *cough*) and after one dungeon I was so disappointed in people that I pressed alt+f4 and I was in GW again. People who haven't tried it lately are really missing out! :)
For me the reason I am playing for 10.5 years (5.5k hours): * combat system is just sota. * max level / power doesn't change since the introduction of ascended weapons/armor/trinkets. You can take off as much time as you want. * really love the classes. I still cannot decide which one is my main (probably mediguard is still favorite, yes core mediguard :D) * really love the maps, environmental / art design. They are nailing especially since icebrood saga / season 4. * wvw was made for me. I never had more fun in anygame than wvw, still cannot find a better environment. * casual grind of items, you can be as fast or as slow as you want. * FASHION. It is unparalleled.
I couldn't gel with the combat for ages, kept picking up and putting down the game for years then I decided to just stick with it. Got to 80, unlocked the full Vindicator line and haven't looked back. Out of all MMO's the Vindicator is the only class that has ever felt like an extension of myself. It's almost obnoxiously aggressive and then you can switch to support on a dime...Love it.
always when i make a new character i think about a theme that fits to the profession and then i sort out which skills and how the look should be - this game is so good if you addicted to twinking^^
I was a hardcore pve player since I played mmos, in every mmo I have played I did the really hard raids, mythic raids in wow, hardmode tripple raids in eso etc, and for me I couldnt imagine to play a "casual" game... but I have to say, I have a lot of fun, because I think it brings back the sense of a mmo, the main sense isnt "I am so much better then you noob, lern to play, uninstall" etc ( never was that guy but I understand the feeling when people die 100 times on the same mechanic, doing 0 dps and you wipe for hours and hours, but thats what ruined for me at the end every mmo, I was pissed off of other people that couldnt play, when in a raid 1 guy fails all the time, the other ones have to wipe hours and hours, that ruined the whole good wipe of the group, in gw2 its ok if you arent that good, you can do most of the content anyways, I can carry a lot sometimes and feel good, without wipeing 5 hours and get pissed. I relern that the sense of an mmo is to play together, to have fun together, to talk to each other and to help each other. Sometimes I just sign up for some dungeons or things, only to help, I dont benefit at all, because I allready did it by myself, but it feels great to help someone. I love the non subscription and I love that I can earn gold and trans them into gems to buy stuff. I love to see all the community organized meta grps, impossible in other mmos. And as a new player you can join almost everything without the requirement of exp from the last 10 xpacs or need ilvl 100 higher then it drops in the dungeon. this game is really great and brings back the real sense what an mmo should be. Some things could be changed sure, I see a lot of long term players complain about things, cant talk about them because I play since 2 months, but this problem can be found in every other mmo too. I have fun, the community is really nice and I can take my time off whenever I want or play something else without the feeling I have to play because I payed this month. Hope the future of gw2 will be bright :) (sorry for my bad english haha)
Oh, the game is far from perfect, any GW2 Veteran will tell you that. But the game has a lot going for it. It is fun, it is casual friendly, you don't need the latest and greatest in terms of gear to do any real content, the hardcore content (fractals and raids, as well as structured PvP) are content that you can easily do without, especially as they are revamping some things so that players who want to stick with PvE and the more casual content don't have to do some of the more hardcore content. The game is casual friendly, it has no FOMO aspect even with the Wizard's Vault (anything you miss when it updates goes into the legacy version so you can get it if you want it), and you can play as much or as little as you want. And while there is a "meta", it only really applies to if you're doing hardcore aspects, otherwise every build is viable, even if they don't necessarily take the best advantage of your class' strengths. Hell, when I roll a new character, I tend to go with a Valkyrie build on my gear prefixes, or Celestial for when I am doing stuff at max level to give me a bit of options for everything, at the price of not being particularly good at any real role.
im that contrarian - i got skyscale from soto and i still use raptor and bunny more often! raptor goes so much further with the leap, and bunny gets me higher faster. skyscale takes too much effort going higher up. i love skyscale of course and use it plenty but in no way does it replaces my other mounts XD which, tbh im very glad about lol, as i love how unique the all the mounts are. i still use jackal fairly often and its arguably the least useful. i cannot wait to get the griffon, rollerbeetle and suege turtle!
For builds, everything feels viable! Which is always fun. Whereas some games (WoW) there are specific builds you must do with specific rotation expectations. GW2 is a bit more fluid. As a full time worker with a long commute and frequent events to go to, you are so right! Horizontal progression is a godsend for me. Not paying monthly is great, but admittedly I am a sucker for Black Lion chests, so.... Also yes the reaper melts, I picked it because I love necromancers and the reaper is my ideal class in an MMO (I like the who undead knight with a big sword and evil magic aesthetic) but did find out it is considered the "easy class" by many players. Feel a bit inferior because of that lol, but I try other classes all the time. Still love my Reaper though.
You've obviously not watched many build guides on YT. My build/rotation is about 8k dps when people are posting 40k dps. I've not gotten into the true endgame meta yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't hitting 30k dps to get booted from a raid. I'm told a lot of people run dps meters.
@@FoulPet, eh I've never gotten booted for lower dps, also 40k benchmark is usuallt at the golem with no mechanics and every buff, realistically ppl aren't expected to hit that at an actual boss. I play reaper, hits anywhere between like 13k-18k, and im usually second on the dps meter after raid, and I barely play reaper (I main ele), and no one cares. there are 4 more dps that does even lower than me and no one cares as long as we get the kill. if you're afraid of your skills as dps, then play a boon dps (quickness dps heralds are amazing for boons and easy to play as well, I do around 7-8k average dps but 99% quickness up time and it's literally impossible to not have quickness uptime on herald) and as long as you keep up the important quickness or alac, your dps just need to be higher than the healers and your golden. that said there should be some expectations that boon dps does more dmg than healers and dps does more dmg than boon dps, honestly do some practice, understand your class and rotation so that you at least know what your doing. if you do your best and contribute toward the team, then everything's fine. but if you join instanced content knowing and doing nothing and expect to be carried, then that's a huge problem and I have no sympathy if you do get kicked 😂 edit: also if your worried you can join training run instead of experienced, and joining a guild that raids can help as well if you're that concerned about pugging.
@Insig385 I've been playing a few months now. With exotic gear, I've hit 8k dps unbuffed. My biggest issue is rotation, so I try to find something in the 4-5 button category. ATM Thief and Engineer I've found I can keep up good dps. I may look a bit more into the support engine or Druid. Guardian perhaps
38 here and the biggest reason i keep coming back to gw2 is because it is incredibly casual. Yes it can be uber hardcore if thats what you want but damn, having all my stuff still be relevant 6 months after a break is awesome.
Thats also not what toxic positivty means. It's an actual psychological term that refers to people close to you reinforcing your bad traits trough positivity. But people online stole it to use against anyone that likes things that they think are bad.
Even psychology websites with peer reviewed papers define it as suppressing negative thoughts and emotions in favor of displaying disingenuous positivity.
Free to Play accounts are viable just takes way longer to get to end game like WvW and fractals. Limited trading post and in game mail make it longer. You can still beat all of core and participate in WvW, PvP, and Fractals while still being viable. I ran a core guard through all content (available to free accounts) with just lower dps but still good damage for the content.
I tried the game 7 or 8 times. My last attempt was to get the spectre elite spec, but i don't have any mounts so i learned i can't reach all the hero points which was a huge turnoff for me.
if you can get specter that means you have EoD, which means you have raptor and bunny. you don't need other mounts in eod maps to get all the hp, I didnt have skyscale and it was fine. the maps on specific expansions are designed for the mounts you do get in that expansion. if you can't reach an hp, look around for another way up, or use zip line to get to a high point and glide down.
You can get to all the stuff with raptor and springer. Mounts are typically provided when needed. You have to remember that Skyscale is originally a luxury and an end game thing to strive for. It took me and my best friend months during the pandemic when we had nothing better to do to farm it. It has only recently become a necessity with Secrets of the Obscure. I am not trying to gate keep, but there has to be some end game and goals it is not just a game for casuals.
100% true haha i love WvW is the only game mode i play i dont touch PvE anymore, some ocassional PvP and back to WvW is so good, i play this game since beta but WvW is my home
When does it start to pickup? After messing with the different professions, I finally decided I just have to pick one and run with it. I'm only in the 30's and kind of waiting for that moment that hooks me .
Well it depends on what your interest is! The core tyria leveling experience is a bit... aged? Personally what hooked me was being able to play pvp at any level and still gain levels from the tomes you get!
1. Respects your time 2. Its more engaging 3. Everything is account wide. (Complete opposite of ffxiv where everything revolves around maining one character which is nice to a different point.) 4. You can earn the premium currency through play and a lot of gold. 5. no subscription. Very affordable mmorpg. You can play this while your tight on money for a duration of time.
I only hope that this GW2 would keep build on it's amazing foundation and remain solid MMO I can fall back on after rest of cash grab games come and go. Love and respect this game/developers as a whole!
@19:25 Toxic 'insert word' is often used to describe particular behaviour taken to an excessive amount and performed negatively to the point that it becomes a bad thing i.e toxic masculinity. However in regard to 'toxic positivity', it already has a real word meaning that doesn't match what its been used for in the context of this video, but i understand what those people who use it in regard to gw2 community mean (meaning they are so aggressively positive that it becomes overbearing), though i don't agree with that assessment myself, especially when so many other online communities are cesspools of negativity. But for the most part Toxic 'insert word' is a valid term for (see first sentence).
Hey man been watching your videos and it's been really helpful. What would you recommend for a beginner spec to choose that would be versatile enough to be accepted in groups in the end game?
quickness herald is really good for qdps slot, and best part is that it's full berserker gear, nothing weird/hard to get, and you dont have to switch gear for open world. the quickness upkeep is also insanely easy. quickness heal firebrand is another option but it's a heal build n need harrier gear which might be trickier to get (tho the new exotics you can get for cheap in wvw is great, buy harder if you want full ascended)). also it being heal build, means you'll need another gearset for pve. same for heal alac mechanist for alacrity, but need harrier and you'll need another geared for openwork pve. for dps, reaper is really good cuz fairly easy rotation, good for open world too cuz tanky, and just need full zerk gear. but tbh as long as you know your class and what it does and carry your weight ppl usually don't care if it's the best class for the slot. I often run heal alac tempest on staff (a non-meta heal build on non-meta weapon lol) and ive never had anyone being a pain to me. but if you're worried about pugs (I definitely understand the worry!) then I would go with a quick herald I think (at least that's what I did 😂)
you know i play Guild Wars 2 a couple months ago for me the other player doesnt seem friendly with new player theres a lot active player in my server that im in and i keep asking hey what to do? how can you buy a bow? is theres any quest etc. the chat keep going but nobody answer me i watch tutorial "heres what to do when you first play Guild Wars2" thats explaining the thing like a little bit further than the situasin im in
now im giving Guild Wars2 second change and i want to ask anyone. the game name is Guild Wars2 is there any guild like dungoen guild? or i do everything alone?
I love draconis mons 😂 chalice I tears tho...*cough* gotta agree with you there. I need to do token collector soon, not looking forward to going back there...😂
I have also learned to at least tolerate Draconis Mons (at least is a relatively easy map to navigate *looking at you heart of thorns maps*). Chalice of Tears tho... *I fear no man... but that *thing*... it scares me.* (Thank the stars and the gods for those friendly and helpful mesmers and their handy little portals, tip those saints for their hard work and good earned gold tips *insert praying emote here*)@@Insig385
The thing that keeps me from sticking with the game is the fact that I can't read chat. Yes, I've set the font to Larger. No, I'm not increasing the dpi of my whole system just to see if that works for a single game. Any ideas?
I love GW2, BUT (there's always a "but") what i really feel lacking is the freedom to choose my own basic skillset as it was in GW1. For example, on the Ranger, playing with a longbow, 3 of the preset 5 skills (well, maybe 2 of the 5) are skills i wouldn't chose for my build, and i mention ranger as it was my main class in GW1 for many many years (actually i still play it from time to time) I kind of feel crippled in skill choices for that matter. On the other hand, GW2 is sooooo casual player friendly that i find that really hard to beat by any other online game
I really don't like when people use "build creativity" as a selling point for GW2. You have to use a specific weapon for specific abilities. Your abilities are tied to your weapon and nothing else. How is that creative? That is a lazy build restriction put into the game so the devs didn't have to deal with the chaos of balancing the GW1 system. The GW1 build system was WORLDS better than GW2.
@@CaffeinatedDadGW2 build system is a bit like "you can have vegetables and only vegetables but cook them however you want." Great system if your taste is vegetarian. There was a lot of value in being able to access almost any abilities in the game to mix in with your primary prof. Build diversity and discovery were unmatched in GW1! I enjoy GW2 very casually, but it is forever a weak shadow of the version of GW I fell in love with so many years ago. Show me something as cool and creative as the 55hp monk in GW2. Please.
Paladin guardian now please! also I agree but also want to point out the events and metas is what makes it for me and the fact there are people doing it. I dont know, I feel that every other mmo with horizontal gameplay is dead except at the top and getting into the top is just so toxic.
True, I have beaten this in from quite a few perspectives but perhaps its because I am looking to catch the attention of people who don't play guild wars 2
I am going to be honest I think the build creativity is mostly dead compared to Guild Wars 1, but mastering the meta is almost far more interesting and then lightly tweaking them is far more interesting in GW2.
You missed the best reason to play! It's a fun game with a ton of content. Just imagine how many hours it would take you to go through the game and see all the content (even just the solo stuff) if you never played before............
I love that players cant inspect others to see their gear/items etc.. So u can do what ever u want ingame and no1 is complaining about ur gear or stats :) It also feels good that everywhere u go, theres always other players.. u never alone
Pleasant undemanding game with a largely positive player base. Marred only by: 1) its obsession with moronic jumping puzzles, 2) absence of scaling in events with varying player numbers. 3) many identified glitches rarely get fixed -some have been complained about for several years.
so true. i take time off on gw2 usually after finishing a long difficult collection (like a legendary) just from some burnout. come back a week later and i'm right back in it, feeling good and having fun.
I'd argue that convenience makes a game easier. Making a game easier because of $$ is pay to win. It may not be as blatant as other games but a duck is a duck.
it's pay to access stuff faster/easier. if you're fine with spending months and months between doing content, you can just take your time to save up gold for all the living world expansions.
To make it pay to win you actually have to win something. In PvE you can insta lvl to 80 and still not win anything because you can't buy the experience of playing the game, learning it at the intended pace , for the same reason, having more inventory space doesn't help much and it's not like you can't manage your inventory with the slots given and that applies to most convenience items. In PvP everyone's equal, gear doesn't matter, lvl doesn't matter so again there's nothing to win. You really have to analyze the game and play it to know what convenience means in it and that it has nothing to do with pay 2 win.
@xvoidgamer not aware of any game that gives you some type of material item like a car or house for "winning." Winning in a game is attributed to fun and enjoyment. If I'm required to walk everywhere because I didn't buy a mount, then I'm losing. If I don't have multiple classes available to me because I didn't buy them and they have an advantage, I am losing. If I can buy in game coin to buy something that allows me to run endgame content quicker and more efficiently, I am losing. Is it relevant in pvp being locked out of a class? Since I don't pvp, I'm not affected. World vs World would be affected, wouldn't? If I can just drop a few hundred real money into the TP, I could gear up. Buy a level 80 boost and be months ahead of a new player. Sure, I'd need to learn skills, but I'd still have an advantage over someone with the same playtime. Is bag space relevant? Does it help you win? Maybe not if you're just ganking players. Wouldn't it be nice to just buy max capacity with real money. Since we have different concepts of what winning is we'll probably not agree on this topic.
@@FoulPet Have you played any Korean mmorpg where you can buy top tier stuff from their store and murder everyone in open world pvp without needing any skill? That is pay 2 win, there's where the term comes from, what you say it's so generalised...
@CalliKira wouldn't you call convenience a form of winning. Let's say I pay for lawn care. My neighbor has to do his own. It's possible he might like cutting grass, weeding, trimming, spraying fertilizer, and pesticide. I don't. I'd much rather enjoy activities in the yard or elsewhere than doing yard work. So I'd see it as a pay to win. I'm paying to skip something I dislike to do something I like. Now, I enjoy leveling characters. Someone else may not. I'm not a fan of the convoluted mess and massive effort required for a new player to attempt legendary crafting. If I had the cash, I'd just buy whatever I wanted. I would be able to run high lvl fractals faster. Not have to deal with the gear issue because I could change it at a whim. Much more enjoyable and IMHO a form if winning.
" Downstate is part of my rotation " my goodness 🤣🤣🤣
Might look at buying that merch lol

True the mounts seem like almost a pay wall behind the rest of the game just due to their convience.
if you can get specter that means you have EoD, which means you have raptor and bunny. you don't need other mounts in eod maps to get all the hp, I didnt have skyscale and it was fine. the maps on specific expansions are designed for the mounts you do get in that expansion. if you can't reach an hp, look around for another way up, or use zip line to get to a high point and glide down.
I don't know about this GW2 game, but I sure do love the game World vs World vs World 🥰
100% true haha i love WvW is the only game mode i play i dont touch PvE anymore, some ocassional PvP and back to WvW is so good, i play this game since beta but WvW is my home
You can make so much money and craft legendaries so quickly. You both aren’t Maguuma I hope though?!

1. Respects your time
2. Its more engaging
3. Everything is account wide. (Complete opposite of ffxiv where everything revolves around maining one character which is nice to a different point.)
But for the most part Toxic 'insert word' is a valid term for (see first sentence).
someone can help here ? ; how is it possible everytime i die and revive myself i die instandly when i get up ?? whats the point of reviving myself so
Hmm do you mean going into downstate? Then reviving yourself?
I often run heal alac tempest on staff (a non-meta heal build on non-meta weapon lol) and ive never had anyone being a pain to me. but if you're worried about pugs (I definitely understand the worry!) then I would go with a quick herald I think (at least that's what I did 😂)
the shirt already earned the like XD
Speaking of RP-builds. Do you think you could make a water healer elementalist build with staff? :) I've always loved that fantasy!
you know i play Guild Wars 2 a couple months ago for me the other player doesnt seem friendly with new player theres a lot active player in my server that im in and i keep asking hey what to do? how can you buy a bow? is theres any quest etc. the chat keep going but nobody answer me i watch tutorial "heres what to do when you first play Guild Wars2" thats explaining the thing like a little bit further than the situasin im in
now im giving Guild Wars2 second change and i want to ask anyone. the game name is Guild Wars2 is there any guild like dungoen guild? or i do everything alone?
Will you cover the newxt Halloween event? It's the first time I'll be experiencing it and I'd like to know hwo to tackle it! Thanks for your content!
My only regret was not playing it when it released. Granted I never owned a pc back in 2012 but would have been nice .
Generally agree.
Also, Draconis Mons. Juust letting that one name in here, do what you will with it. Oh! and Chalice of Tears. Yep.
I'll be going now.
Any ideas?
Glasses? But sorry to hear that.
All due respect I enjoy the amount of customization available in the builds. My only quarrel is the relic system is short changes the old relics
It’s not hard to get to the top, it is hard to be the top 1%.
didnt say it was hard, just toxic
@@Scott_Silver
Nice 15th why you should play guild wars 2 video.
If you don't like GW2, you are probably burned out by mmo's in general. It has something for everyone.
so true. i take time off on gw2 usually after finishing a long difficult collection (like a legendary) just from some burnout. come back a week later and i'm right back in it, feeling good and having fun.
The best feature in gw2 is the ability to pay with real money to unlock core mechanics
As gw2 player, I’ve just tried BDO but meh
I dont like how no one talks on this game
Best part is no subscription.
Absolutely true!
@xvoidgamer not aware of any game that gives you some type of material item like a car or house for "winning."
Winning in a game is attributed to fun and enjoyment.
