    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I am fortunate to be able to farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. Occasionally I'll get my dad in a video as well. While I am the 4th generation in my family to farm some of what we are still farming today, I really credit my dad with making our farm what it is. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    Please enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

    In the Texas Panhandle we had 2 to 3.5" of rain. We are still irrigating putting on another inch. In 2 weeks our crops should be doing well. Our corn is silking, our cotton is blooming, Grain Sorghum is starting to boot. Next 2 weeks temps should be low 90's. Lows in low 60's. Amazing how things change when heading to the finish.

    Thanks for the videos. If I recall in a past video you indicated the FarmHQ system didn’t always connect to the cell tower. The FarmHQ system may function better with A 6” round or metal “ground plane” plate under the mag mount antenna. The antenna with plate should be as high as possible with direct line-of-site to the nearest cell tower.

    I’m sure you’ve calculated how much the loss of plants caused by the paths that are cut for the Traveler reduce yield. I’m assuming that the increased yield from irrigation surpasses that. I was curious as to how much of a net gain there is.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont plant the lanes other than the center lane, so I'm saving the seed and N cost on most of the lanes. I have figured it's about 2.5% of the acres so I need a 2.5% increase in yield to make up for those acres, roughly 5 bushel.

    Since there is already water in the river suction pipe, wouldn’t it be handy to be able to blow some of it the other way and keep the screen clear? Just a problem waiting on a solution.

    Just to clarify, the guys with pivots can’t actually change the volume of water going through the pivot either, it’s all done with the speed of the pivot same as your traveler

    Did you know that on those aluminum main line pipes there's two kinds of gaskets you can buy for those The kind you have are the ones that are engineered for draining each time it shut off so you can move them easilyThe other kind are non-drained backAnd they do not drain back each timeSo for you the non-drain back type would be better the water will stay in the line and you won't have to refill your line each time and it won't make such a muddy mess in your road

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว
