Hello and thank you for your truthful and frank talk. I was just diagnosed with 4th stage breast cancer. I feel fine, except for pain at night underneath my armpit, where the cancer has spread throughout my body. (bones, lungs) just a bit tired, but nothing to complain about. Looking at me you would never guess I have stage 4 breast cancer! The other day my Dr. gave me Letrozole tablets. I have an EKG next Monday and a bone density coming up, so I thought I'd wait on taking them until they have a baseline on my heart and bone health. If someone like my self decides to skip all these horrific side effects, and pills to combat the bad effect of pills, I wonder, what would my life be like if I just let cancer take it's course? Does anyone just refuse all of this, so they can enjoy the rest of their life, no matter how long or short? I am 67 yrs old and I am asking some heavy questions. Thank you for all that you are doing to empower us who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Thank you -- this is super illuminating and very helpful. The most helpful part for me is your discussion of recurrence chance. As a stats teacher I obsessed on it till I realize that my personal chance is so different from the statistical chance and felt so liberated by the realization.
This is a super informative video!! It answers many questions for me, thank you so much!!. Being a post menopausal 61 year old with lots of hot flushes but who has never taken HRT I'm finding no side effects to taking Leztrozole!
Thank you so much for your informative and very clear explanation and advice. I am extremely grateful to you. I had bi lateral breast cancer 14 years ago and I now have lobular carcinoma recurrence. I am awaiting radiotherapy and then letrozol plus biosophates therefore your advice has been invaluable as no one had explained this to me, as yet anyway. Thank you again for taking the time to explain.
Thank you for doing this. I have read your book from cover to cover, because of covid, I have not seen any other patients, so to me , it was my bible. Very informative. Julie
Thank you so much for doing this. You answered lots of questions I didn’t know I had lol. Feel much clearer about a lot of things especially drug treatments and why mine might be different than a friend’s
Hi Dr Liz I read in one of your post about breast cancer I would hear so much before I had to have my Bilateral surgery at 44 yrs old I had less than 1% in the right breast and my left one had to be removed cause it was still growing so my Dr. Recommended removing my right breast during my surgery and my husband and I agreed which is I’m so very truly grateful for her she never once said I know how you feel she was so very supportive of me and my husband and wanted to do the right thing as my Surgeon but I’ve had other people say oh I know how you feel I’m like really have you had breast cancer n both breast removed NO well you don’t know how I feel don’t tell me something and you haven’t experienced it for yourself But I have to tell you Dr. Liz your awesome 👏 and your helping me and I’m pretty sure anyone else who is listening in I just want to thank you. God Bless You Dr.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I'm so sorry you're in the club that no-one wants to be a part of. Even another woman with breast cancer can't know exactly how you feel as you are an individual. Let me know if there are any topics you'd like me to cover in my next video x
Hi Dr Liz, I've really enjoyed this video, so informative and lovely having that personal touch, from someone who has breast cancer too. Also, love your book and podcasts. It was lovely to meet you in person at the 5k my way parkrun at Nowton park recently. Thanks for all the advice about what to wear post op, for a bilateral mastectomy. Also about accepting offers of help, which can be hard to do, but necessary to allow the healing to take place.❤
I’m 62 went through menopause already was wondering if symptoms will start all over again when I start taking hormone blocker after radiation. Thank you
66 year old diagnosed with oestrogen positive BC . I sailed through menopause and never ill before now. Im now on Anastrozole and it raised my BP to 215 in 8 weeks. I have now to decide which is worse risk of Heart attack/ stroke or reoccurrence of cancer. Ive read Anastrozole stays in the body for 50 hours so wondering if i take it every second day as opposed to stopping it completely.
Hi Tina I have a suggestion. Listen to the podcasts by Dr. Robert Lustig who is a pediatric endocrinologist who explains what metabolic syndrome is and excessive dietary sugar causes it. Metabolic syndrome causes a rise in insulin level and rising insulin levels are a cause of weight gain. Weight gain does increase your risk of breast cancer. Howw much sugar is too much? I am in the USA and our American Heart Association and the World Health Association recommend 25 grams per day ( about 6 teaspoons ) for an adult female . If you eat any packaged food look at the added sugar. One poptart that I looked at puts you at 28 grams of sugar- more than the recommended allowance for a day. Sugar is in most packaged foods, even bread, hot dog buns yoghurt. You need to check be informed then make your own decision.
Hi Liz, you are doing great job... Very informative... Do all breast cancer need radiotherapy after surgery? Mine is tnbc and having 6 months chemo, then planning surgery.
I answer this in my book - The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer - but in a nutshell, everyone who has a wide local excision gets RT and some people with large cancers after a mastectomy get it. It has nothing to do with your receptors
Mam my mother diagnosed with stage 4 bone metastasis breast cancer in 2021and after chemo it takes tamoxifen but now dr changed its to letrozole from past 4-5 months.....now dr ne liver biopsy kraya h.....kya cancer liver me fel chuka h mam ....plz tell....phle cancer er pr + tha dr said i check now its er pr + or -
Dr. O, I'm 75, had DIC ++- cancer, grade 1, stage 1, single mastectomy a year ago. Fully recovered and doing great. I chose not to be on AI med mainly based on potential side effects at my age. I am, however, experiencing hot flashes almost EVERY NIGHT for the last 6-7 months, wondering if it might be an after effect of my cancer, or a sign of recourrance? Please advise. My primary doctor just brushed me off without any explanation, told me not to worry. Is it normal for a 75 year old woman still getting hot flashes heavily?
Hello great video content i watched you on Instagram There you said we can choose a mastectomy or Lumpectomy depending on certain things. I have Lobular, HER2+Stage 2 Large DD breasts 2cm no nodes. I would prefer a mastectomy to a Lumpectomy Would there be any reason to not have a mastectomy. I would love to avoid radation is the main reason. I am 59 post menopause I am very overweight but working on that Thank you
Hi im new on here im 11 years past my cancer i was stage one microinvasive im so afraid that it will come back soon i went to see my oncologists and wanted to see if i could syay on my arimadex for life he sead no and went on to say he had 2 ladies in with the same as mine and there's came back 15 years latter im so worrid ,thank you
I got a 2nd opinion she said I should have had chemo but after 4 mo its too late. But she did order the radiation. My last oncologists are playing monkey in the middle. One wouldn't do chemo and the other no radiation because he thought I needed the chemo. First oncologist put me on anastrozole without bone density was diagnosed 2015 with ostropenia. New one order bone density. The new oncologist is upbeat to the point, and I really like her. Glad I glad i got 2nd opinion but wish I didn't wait so long.
Because you still produce oestrogen when your ovaries are removed so you still need a hormone blocker, and removing your ovaries carries all the risks of a general anaesthetic as well.
Thank you dr Liz ...I have dense breasts a 8mm slow growing luminal A 2019 But last few months such bad back pain (osteoporosis)on aromatase instead of fasolidex 2 years..stopped Love and thanks for replying 💓

I can’t give personal medical advice. However hot flashes are not a symptom of recurrence.

The side effects of the drugs outweigh the benefits after 10 years and they do more harm than good
Do you had microinvasice dcis?

Pls can you tell me how bad is meat is for you after breast cancer ,thank you
meat eaten as part of a well balanced diet is fine. But you shoudn't eat a lot of red meat or processed meat
i have a question please why do you not remove the ovaries ASAP,,,the cardio and bone loss are much easier to treat then cancer ???
Because you still produce oestrogen when your ovaries are removed so you still need a hormone blocker, and removing your ovaries carries all the risks of a general anaesthetic as well.
Slow growing luminal A
Stage 2
Apparently pet scans do not pick this up
True or false
⁉️💗🥰
we do't routinely do PET scans to look for breast cancer because thery are so slow growing
