    The double-motif combo around the 50:00 mark to get the coins, and then immediately get the points using opponent's badges... that's the jam! :)

    I played a development copy of this game a few years ago with the designer, Carl Van Ostrand. The game has changed a bit since then. I’m really looking forward to delivery, hopefully by late March!

      Hi! Drake from Final Frontier Games here. The answer here is twofold: 1. We updated the rules since the last video. Not a lot, and nothing huge, but enough small tweaks that we felt a new video was warranted to prevent possible confusion. 2. The components you see in the video will better resemble what players have, as opposed to the prototype copy components.

  • @mr.rogers7612
    @mr.rogers7612 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Is there still a need to read the rulebook after this?

    • @mr.rogers7612
      @mr.rogers7612 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was great but I still have to read the rules or I'm gonna go nuts. 😂

  • @cteague3
    @cteague3 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Rules question: at the beginning of the game, before you have removed any badges, does the heart with a melody symbol inside it to the left of the badges mean that you always have at least one melody before you gain any other melody from any other means (cards, removed badges, etc) ?

    • @cteague3
      @cteague3 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh never mind. I just saw the point in the video that clarifies this. Those melody tokens are specifically about how much challenging bards must spend to successfully challenge.

  • @Skycroft1000

    Huh, deja vu, I can vaguely remember the video you made on the prototype. I think I remember saying then that this game didn't really feel like the musical theme was anything more than a theme - it's not a game about making music, just a game with a musical dressing. And that I thought that was pretty disappointing. Unfortunately I must stand by that observation. I found myself mostly feeling that disappointment and it ruined any good impression I might have otherwise had of this game.

    • @drakevillareal7772
      @drakevillareal7772 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I'm not here to change your opinion on things, but as the lead developer, I want to offer some insight into where the theme is.
      It's everywhere. The Tempo wheel of the song, the idea of composing temporary tableaus as songs (which can be shorter or longer depending on your Tempo), the idea of lyrics and melody being ephemeral and unable to be saved between rounds, the idea of soothing the attacking creatures and boasting about it instead of killing them, the idea of gaining new fans after performing shows, the idea of exploring to hear and tell legends, your song only affecting the area directly around you (places that can hear you). Additionally, this isn't a game about "music" it's a game about Bards. Musical motifs and ideas are interwoven at every single mechanism. If it were just set dressing, it would be easy to convert the theme to something else, but I think that if you try to re-theme it, you will run into issues where things are no longer cohesive (as they are with this theme.). We also specifically wanted to avoid musical theory, because if you don't know more about musical composition, a lot of the stuff would just mean nothing to you.
      So woven into every single mechanism was a strong pull towards the theme. But we also tried to make playing the game have a certain "tempo" and "beat" to it. In the same way Donkey Kong games aren't rhythm games, but they naturally have rhythm to the way they are played. Not every turn is playing a song, by necessity you have to spend time composing, and deciding if you want a short and sweet song, or something more substantial. So we approached the theme from the art, the feel of play, and every single mechanism. This was a Bard game long before it was a deckbuilder, and before any of the current mechanisms existed in this form.

      @@drakevillareal7772 I am by no means a musical expert...quite the opposite actually, so perhaps I am a poor judge of how well theme is implemented here, but to me, its seems pretty well done. The games i find most thematic tend to be games in which the theme is something that I am well versed in or something i am drawn to, such as SF / Fantasy / Farming (yes...i enjoy those...). Regardless, the play is interesting with kind of a engine building deck builder, and I would be happy to play it.
      Along that line of thought, is this going to hit retail in the USA?
