This was 50 years ago. No CGI....just cinematic infancy, and pure talent in terms of scenery and acting.....doesn't come close to todays lack of everything.
Back in the early 1980s there was a punk band in Bradford called the negativz who did a version of this song and it was fantastic it would get everybody on the dancefloor in good lively but happy spirits
I saw the original production on Broadway and then again in the London revival. Have the original cast album. Some of the songs I will always remember. “Food , glorious Food” , Consider Yourself” and my favorite was “As long as he needs me”. Some great actors played the lead character
I spent most of my life since watching this as a young child happily not knowing he was supposed to be jewish. Fagin just sounded like a funny Dickensian name ('Twist', anyone?). This song could be about anyone stuck on a bad path
@@jalexandertdavies I am Jewish, and this was my mother's favorite character. Her favorite song was when he considers stopping to be a criminal singing "I am reviewing the situation". She understood the Jewish humor behind it and how human he was made to appear. Frankly, I am a little sick of all anti-semitic sentiments, past and present. Clearly, as a people we are innovative, tolerant and open minded. The other major religions seem to either be driven by jealousy, paranoia and indifference. Their survival seems to be based on spreading fear and self hate. The results are not only not humorous but violent. I never felt inferior, if anything, slightly superior.
Omg I nearly forgot ..we are now in the age of the ism and diversity and inclusion ,women’s rights blah blah blah ..so now I’m reviewing my previous post and I think I’m going to think it out again .gfys
Is this guy a stereotype? How can anyone say he isn't? But I love his character all the same. He's funny and he tries to be rational and survive in a cruel world. I love this guy. His numbers are my favorite. They're catchy and upbeat.
Yes, the character in the Dickens novel was a very negative stereotype but I think Lionel Bart who wrote this musical (and was himself Jewish) knew exactly what he was doing and drew heavily from traditional Eastern European Jewish music for this song in particular.
ind a wife but The finger she would wag at me the money she would take from me make my life a misery I think I better think It out again a job I'll get impossibly I wonder who my boss will be I think I better think it out again
Not sure to be honest, though chances are it may well of due to its age and how well known it is. If you happen to find one let me know, would be interested in seeing/hearing it :) .
''All my dearest companions have all ways been villains and thieves''

The owl's wink has always made me chuckle.

"How could we forget, how could we let, our dear old Fagin worry!"
*mission failed*
For some reason this makes me think of the count from the kid cartoon. I think sesame street
Best song in the film
im reviewing my situation,love this.
My mind during a test:
I saw this on Broadway and have the original cast album
In the novel he's even worse. He is referred to simply as "the jew" for almost the whole novel, and never once considers fixing his ways.
Unfortunately anti-semitic

Dickens had a good few Jewish stereotypes in his books and I think if he was writing now that he would be frowned upon to say the least

"How to make friends and influence people?" So how?

The Red King: I think you better think it out again! :D
Katie Smith think out what?
Any adult with a conscience has thought these thoughts at least once. If you deny it, you’re either dishonest or just not living.
Brilliant wont be repeated
Fabulous . . .

You know what I think? I think we better think of something.
I think we better think about taking this trash "song" down from TH-cam!
