Sir in first wave the RTPCR kits were mostly imported. But in second wave kits with indegenous swabs have been used.Sterility of these swabs are suspect and there have been reports of swabs being made in slums.Moreover most of the infections are in locations where RTPCR swabs are used i.e; nose sinus and oral. Could there be the co relation between RTPCR swabs and. MM infections.
Yes ..It's a reasonable suspicion. Sub standard swabs or masks , flooded in indian markets may be the culprits

How do we explain absence of mucormycosis during the first phase even though steroids were used, perhaps more aggressively than now?
Steroids have become main stay of treatment in severe- critical patient in second wave after dexamethasone study results came.
Mucormycosis is an age old disease and was prevalent before as well. It's being reported by media on profound scale 👍
It was there last year too but v few compared to now so it did not get media attention. And mucormycosis strikes d lungs & GI tract too but those cases r fewer so it's not in Tv media.
new corona variant itself lessens the immunity T4 cells.. not steroids
