As someone who may never run these trails (Eastern Canadian) it’s really nice to see your trails and have a glimpse of the beauty of Colorado. Hopefully this becomes a regular series showing all the different trails in more of a relaxed, non vehicle reviewing format. Just showing the world the gorgeous Colorado vistas. Really enjoyed this one. Thanks 😊
These are just the foothills on the front range.. convenient from Denver and Boulder. A cool and convenient area but nowhere close to the best mountain terrain. I think the best scenic trails in Colorado are along the Alpine Loop. In particular, driving down into the Ouray/Telluride area still takes my breath away despite growing up in CO.
I lived on Dixon road in gold hill. We ran the Switzerland trail regularly. It will not hurt you a great beginner trail. Took my Geo Tracker, Isuzu Trooper, my family Land Cruiser, Jeep grand and Subaru outback up with no issues
Bottom line-any day outside in the woods having fun is a great day! These longer ride alongs showcase the vehicles well and should help those not sure what their rigs can do to get out there and give it a rip!
The trail is pretty bumpy. The uproute to Argentine laughs, lol. That guy is a FANTASTIC spotter. I'd be more than happy to have him as a copilot on any trip.
Loved the addition of the maps. This one I actually knew and I know downtown Boulder, so I knew where you were going and felt like anyone could have easily found their way following these directions. These videos are great and getting better with each iteration. On another note, I just got a Morrflate Airhub. If your sponsor has their own version, you guys should try that out for airing up and down. Very convenient to just set the desired PSI and you can do something else instead of having to monitor progress or do each tire individually. James seems like exactly the co-driver anyone would want to have along. Last thought, the Gold Hill Deli is great and the cookies are really that good. My son graduated CU a couple of years ago, so I don’t find myself in Boulder too often these days, but this video was really great to remind me how awesome it is there. Can’t wait for the Moab series!
Core Stem, Valve stem is the whole thing. I've removed a few core stems for people that did not know how to park correctly at trail heads. I was nice enough to leave them on their windshield wipers. ; )

Thank you so much for this series. What a beautiful trail!! If ever I manage to get out towards Golden, CO, I will definitely have to find a way to travel that trail.
For 1 thing, that GX's GC is 8.7. So, not exactly going to out class other SUV's that are being cross shopped with it. The LC is that way too. So, you will need to either jack it up with more $, or utilize skid plates a bit more often than say if you were driving a 4Runner that has 9.6. It is not earth shatteringly taller, but for a stock vehicle, it has the .. higher ground.
You understand that the low point on the GX, LC and 4Runner are the rear diff. The GX/LC have 9.5” ring gears vs the 4Runners 8.2”. So the only point in the GX that’s actually lower is the pumpkin. The rest won’t be lower than a 4Runner
I have run this trail in the winter quite a bit in my Rubicon on 35"s. Just bring a friend, a shovel, and make sure you have a winch. It usually isn't too deep.
My 1995 Montero SR is good old fashioned air locker. Easy peesy. Anytime we go off roading and it's always the Toyota products that get hung up with rear diff locker, center locker and hi/low range selection issues.
I bike up from Boulder to Gold Hill then up to the Switzerland trail and back down to Boulder. Last time up to there I passed a couple of really nice built out jeeps on 37’s airing down at the trailhead. Go a little further and pass some kids in a clapped out Subaru getting after it.
You guys should totally run the land cruiser for comparison with the same trail and perhaps a bronco, something like black diamond and evaluate value, comfort and compatibility to the GX. And the new 4runner when you can.
I have a 2020 4Runner TRD Off Road. I have no problems engaging the rear locker, or 4low for that matter. It takes a few seconds to engage the rear locker, but 4low engages almost instantly.
I recognized the area in your video at the intersection of the Switzerland Trail and Fourmile Creek which you called Sunlight. I lived in one of the cabins there for a few years in the 1970s and unless the name has changed, this is Sunset Townsite, not Sunlight.
It’s embarrassing that this thing is unable to just lock diffs. How can the Bronco just lock and unlock instantly and Toyota requires flat ground, rolling back and forth and a sacrifice to ancient gods?
Interesting that Lexus chose to put the Toyo OC AT3 on there. I put those on my LX570 and didn't like them on it. They were just too loud and a little sloppy in the handling department even. Pulled then off under the trial period and put Yokohama Geolanders on - much quieter. That's not an indictment on the Toyo's, I put them on my RAM 3500 and love them on it. One caviat I should mention, i also put 17" method wheels on during this process. The larger sidewall could have contributed to some of these complaints. That said, the Geolanders behave well in the same set up - likely helped out due to not being as aggressive.
I went to do Switzerland this weekend but right at the top (entry) my XJ overheated so we decided not to start the trail. Looked at the coolant and it was dark so I'll do a new Tstat and coolant flush and try it again.
I hope the skid plates on that bronco are solid because you dropped him right down on his oilpan/transmission...then further down may have scuffed in the back also...he was just several inches too far driver and slid off the obstacle.
I have a Bronco badlands and my lockers engage with no issue anytime hit the switch, front and rear. I think toyota needs to look at software programing. Nice area though :-)

the way that they brought that bronco up. this is the reason i dont let people pick my lines. he should have been on passenger the on the way up becuase of the lack of articulation in that vehicle it pulled it to the drivers side.
So... 20:06 they started a fire, violating the no burn laws. Quick question folks. Would you take this trail with a F150 FX4 on michelin defender (m+s) tires? Would you air down the tires on factory 20 inch wheels?
If you plan on doing any off roading at ALL (aside from state maintained gravel roads) swap the 20s for 17s or 18s. Anything bigger than an 18 is for vehicles that will never see dirt.
