Said it before, say it again...
Independent rear suspension (which is way more than a decade overdue) means you need/can have a stiffer chassis.
Stiffer chassis mean more shock gets transferred through the chassis.
Guess what? The driver is right in the path of that shock wave...
Why not go see how the Australians are doing things?
They have some pretty horrendous incidents with the car dismantling itself spectacularly but the driver cell is fine and the driver walks away more often than not with maybe a headache and nothing else.
This issue is going to be a learning curve and there WILL NOT be any "overnight solutions" unfortunately.
Also, risk taking is something that will have to be re-evaluated.
The driver willing to take the biggest risk may get the biggest reward - BUT he may also take the hardest licks if things go south.
And at the speeds of some of the tracks, that happens so fast you cannot catch it.
And then you are in your way to the scene of the wreak with no way of stopping anything.

This. People and drivers were applauding the new car, for being able to take hits and keep going. Hits that would have wrecked the last gen. Well, you can't have everything. And, they keep insisting on high speeds, constantly pressured by whining fans.
It's pretty simple. They now have a car that's much more durable. But that durability now puts more impact on the drivers, on hits. So, do what you can to reduce hard hits. Lower the speeds maybe. Maybe penalize certain manouvers.
The drivers are suddenly whining about the car's impacts. Yet it's also the drivers who are out there driving super-aggressively. Hamlin is not shy at all, pitting a car to pass them. Remember edwards straight-up ramming logano. Or denny using his car to attack bowman's car in his winning celebration. They have to reign in their aggression somewhat. The drivers have to take some of the blame too.

Come on Nascar get it together Talladega is coming up and we as fans don't want the inevitable to happen and history repeat itself and put driver's lives at risk all for name of entertainment to line The Steves (Phelps and O'Donnell) pocket. My solution take all the data and what the drivers are telling you and use it to make the cars safer along with adding some things from the gen 5 and 6 to make sure you don't have another Nemecheck, Petty, Irwin, Roper & Earnhardt incident in your hands or the drivers might boycott.

I have to agree. One of the worst aspects of NASCAR nowadays is the top half of the field being stupid and lunging at 0.05% chance moves because what does it matter, the team has the money and resources to rebuild the car so there's no actual risk to the individual. Safety has been so heavily perfected that it's the equivalent of wrapping a pair of 8-year old boys in 12 inches of bubble wrap and letting them go to town. There's no respect among drivers or between the driver and the track because there's no serious fear of 'oh this could hurt somebody'.
Do I want to see the Gen7's obvious safety issues get fixed? Yes, it might be Kurt Busch today but it could be Larson, Bubba, Stenhouse, or McDowell next month or next year. Danm thing shows it's Dallara roots way too strongly with how piss easy it floats into the air and looses tires as well. But this is the change that is needed at the top level for some element of the respectful culture to come back.

A Major thing that is not being talked about regarding 'FEAR" is the Next Gen Car, basically just "steps out and crashes". There is no real ability to "hang it out" , "Over drive" :drive it off the right rear tires", etc, etc, etc. I don't know why NASCAR does not want to fix this aspect. It goes completely against their "Harder to Drive" selling point. The Reality is since it does not have an Wiggle-room regarding those boundaries, all it has actually done is "slowed down" guys that would run cars at their maximum and hang them out. It has narrowed the gap to those drivers who either..... (Cant, wont or are unwilling) to do those things in the first place. That is also part of why it is way to hard to pass, lap times are actually "Too close" and why you have 19 different winners. I for one think that is NOT a Good Thing!

Scrap all these plastic aluminum titanium parts that shatter and go to steel which bends especially the wheels, the steering is way too fast also for what why are the brakes so huge no reason for it NASCAR went from a stock car to a sports car all in the name of handling, let's go back to tread on the tires I call it patented unit tire one tire with Chad for rain ice mud dirt asphalt concrete come on people have some common sense?

Kurt Busch is not a big enough name for NASCAR to actually care. This should be concerning of in itself. Gordon had his back fucked up in a pair of accidents at Vegas 2008 and Watkins Glen 2009 with the COT. Hamlin broke his back at Fontana in 2013. NASCAR didn't change anything for them. The roots of the organization from the 50's and earlier did not care about safety, and only something high-profile like a multi-time champion dying in the cars like Weatherly or Dale Sr ever lead to any massive series-enforced changes, often years behind the rest of the racing world and normally just copy-pasting whatever another series is doing.

Of course they hurt. But we’re in the 2020s, where safety has been infinitely improved since 30-40 years ago.
