  • Thermaltake states mini-ITX is supported in the Tower 200, but doesn't mention microATX. The holes are drilled and tapped for microATX. Find out if it fits and what what you need know about it.

Thank you for experimenting and pointing out the PCIe orientation (1st or 2nd) on the motherboard. It was very helpful and insightful and you are the first one to stress this point which is essential in planning a build with small space.

Thanks for all your good knowledge and advice. I recently did 2 builds in this Tower 200 case using mATX boards in both, with no problems at all. One is an AMD 5800X3D & the other is an Intel i9-1300K. If anyone has any questions, hit me up. I actually transferred the AMD 5800X3D from a Tower 100mini to the Tower 200. The Tower100 was just too small a space to be able to cool the AMD5800X3D using 120mmAIO, but in the Tower200 case, it's great.

Is there enough room to properly cool a ryzen 9 7900x in the 200?
Currently hardstuck on the decision for a case and while I love the tower 300 design I actually wanted to go for a smaller build but with matx

@@Growlie_ Seems to work fine for me... I believe it will depend on your cooling solution. Both of my Tower 200 builds run great. I have i9-1300K in one, with a 280AIO. It has 3 additional case fans. The other is a 5800X3D with a 240AIO. It also has 3 additional case fans. I hope this helps. If you want more details, let me know.

Most of the Gigabyte B650M boards feel like they were made with this case in mind. They have the PCIe slot in the first row so you can still fit those giant 4090s in the case and they have the 3.2 USB header on the same side as the main power pointing at a 90 degree angle.

I really appreciate this video!

Hi SerCaliber, Thanks for the feedback. I did see after doing this video they released other color variants like the tower 100, which I like to see them do, the Green is awesome for sure!!! I don't know for sure why TT wouldn't have put that in the documentation or talk about it. I can only imagine it's close enough to the line that it's more like, we tapped the holes as a courtesy to you, but you're on your own! Some motherboards might be more problematic than others.

I'm wanting to do tower 200 with msi project zero whiteout build using the power color spectral white 7900xtx and 7800x3d cpu. With thermaltake fans and ram and power supply will be red dragon 1300 pcie5 white 3.0. Currently deciding if this is the route I want to go. If I have to. I can add small spacers for the board on all the screws to get the room on the back side of board. Might have to find new screws for it at the hardware store though for the increased length of 1/8 inch longer as im imagining that's what I would need for spacing on the back side of the board for the wiring. Might have to fabricate the vertical mount support a little to fit the increased height of the board to support the vertical gpu. The spectral uses up 3 slots in size. But with it being project zero. Might not have all the space issues. I'm not afraid to run a cable around the bottom front side for the gpu power connectors. I can use cool cable clips or design a bracket from aluminum sheeting. To pull the cables through. I really want msi project zero board. Cheaper than the msi 650 I mitx board. But a whole 3 inches longer.

My motherboard worked well in this case. Its an MSI Pro B650M-A Wifi motherboard. The sata, USB 3 and USB C are all towards the bottom of the case with the motherboard installed so all I had to deal with was HD audio, USB for the Corsair Commander Core and the front buttons and lights.
Another thing to check is sata cables if someone is going to use them. My board would be better using flat connectors instead of the 90 degree connector im using.
I wouldnt be able to go larger than a 3 slot card though.

What does the mATX motherboard gain you over the mITX motherboard?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi brlowe1, that's a great question. mATX will often give you more expansion slots and memory slots, there can be other differences, but these are the main ones that come to mind. You may find other advantages on a specific mATX motherboard as well, you'd have to compare 2 motherboards together.
I don't like the look of the mATX motherboard as much as mini-itx, so that can be a consideration. I generally would choose mini-itx or ATX over mATX, but that's a personal preference based on the looks of it. For most basic gaming pc's there is no advantage of mATX over mini-itx, IMO.
That said, it's a minor thing, I'd certainly use one in this case if it had features I wanted over a mini-itx board. In some instances you might find a mATX board that's available at a great price over mini-itx.
Good Luck and have fun, thanks for watching!!!

@@HardwareArtisan I did not think of the extra memory slots. Those would be the only benefit that I can see but I can get 64gb with 2 slots so that is enough. An extra m.2 slot would be nice also but I'm running 4TB drives anyway. The extra PCI slot gets covered with a large video card anyway. Thanks for this video as I just ordered this case to build a new mITX computer. Moving away from my large water cooled computer. I know this is a larger case but it fits what I want/need.

The mITX boards are way more expensive (at least in Canada). The cheaper ones are A620s for 200$, B650s are 300-400$, and the one X670 I can find is a X670E and it's almost 600$. With mATX I can get a B650 for 150$.
