The rest of history is my favorite podcast. The back and forth banter between the hosts is usually very enjoyable. Sometimes I think that Tom might interrupt a little too often but it's nothing that seems out of line. This episode is an exception. The level to which Tom kept interrupting Dominic was just ridiculous. For instance, as soon as Dominic mentions that Nixon won the presidential election Tom jumps in and and asks if there were any positive accomplishments if you look at his tenure apart from Watergate. Dominic has prepared a long transcript to be read and it's patently obvious that he is going to get to some of that stuff. This keeps happening throughout the episode. I've only recently found the podcast and most the episodes I've listened to are much more recent so my guess is that since this one is several years over this is something that just got a lot better over time. I'm probably being a nincompoop for pointing this out but boy it was irritating.

I remember sitting with my grandmother as a 13 year old watching the Watergate hearings because her soap operas were cancelled. It was Nixon who made my young mind skeptical of the government - particularly Republicans. That was 1974, and the GOP has only gotten worse.
Honestly, I really think you guys rushed this one. There is one huge thing about Nixon that is often ignored. Nixon torpedoed the Paris peace talks in the spring and summer of 1968 in an effort to help himself in the election. He, through Kissinger and a Vietnamese woman, convinced the South Vietnamese government to not agree to end the war saying they would get a better deal under the Nixon administration. The prolonged war led to 25,000+ more American death, as well as countless Vietnamese and Cambodian deaths. When an end to the war was negotiated, the terms were the exact same as they were in 1968. All this is confirmed by H.R. Haldeman, Nixon chief of staff. All because Nixon wanted to win the presidency. He was a devious, despicable POS.

Your "expert" can't remember if G.Gordon Liddy was pardoned? Some expert.
(Liddy was not pardoned but President Carter reduced his sentence.)
Your giggling hilarity in the early part of this episode sounds trite as that exploration of Nixon's history and the events he experienced are what would clearly define his political character later. I understand your programme allows a certain levity but it is also supposed to be an historical portrayal of people and events.
Certainly not your finest work and, although I am a subscriber, it's a thumbs down on this one.

Also, it is not true that the proposed Brookings break-in was speculative. Nixon wanted the retrieval of specific documents related to the secret Vietnam negotiations in 1968.

Nixon did contest. One of your worst shows.
