Gotta add a different twist on the savings account one though: different savingspost in your budget, but one account you keep the actual money in, for more accumulated intrest.
"You never want to seem like the person who's drowning just to manage work & Netflix." This is 100% me. I work about 42-43 hours a week, plus 2 hours of travel each day, nothing excessive. I don't know how people manage a second job, side gigs or kids while working full-time. Sometimes I wonder if we even have the same 24 hours! I'm always exhausted because my work is mentally demanding (I'm a reporter), and because of a previous bad living situation, and I can barely muster the energy to see my closest friends, let alone meet new people or start a hobby.
I used to think this but now I trying to change it. For me, in order to use the time that I have left in the day, I need to have enough sleep, eat healthy food and take enough vitamins during the day. If that doesn't happen, I feel tired and than just want get into my bad at 6 pm. On week days my priority is working out and cooking but I have noticed if I make plans for a social gathering in advanced- I will be excited and not feel so tired and drained.
Seeing that your span of working hours was only an hour (not necessary to provide) lol...maybe work on carving out time to relax and enjoy life...it goes waaay too fast!
So your essentials are thrown into a box?! Mine are labeled and have a comfortable roomy home. ( just teasing you, not being snarky) thanks for saving reminders.
I’ve definetly taken your advice on tailors over the years and at this point, I literally always get the pants that I buy tailored. If I need new pants, I factor in the time it will take to wash them, bring them to the tailor, and pick them up and also add the extra $10 hemming charge to the cost of the pants when thinking about the cost in my head.
Can you do a video on making and maintaining friends as an adult? I left my home state 10 years ago and still have yet to make and keep friends. The ones I finally do make eventually move to another city or state for school/work/relationship. My only friends are the two from my home state (and they still live there) that I've been friends with for over 30 years. Could you also make a video about crossing social classes when making friends? I grew up inner city and on welfare/food stamps (when they were on paper), but a lot of the people I meet where I now live grew up going to the Adirondacks and vineyards for vacations. I hung out with friends when they were having "play dates". I could barely afford to go to my prom when they had a junior prom along with prom. I'm guessing these are some of the reasons I have trouble making and keeping friends so any help would be great.
I've moved a few times to different parts of the country since becoming an adult, and I've also been to the both middle-class and food stamp arenas. I know our stories aren't parallel, but I can relate to what you are saying. I don't know how conventional or reserved you are, but I am neither of those things lol, so take full advantage of the Internet to make some friends, stigma be damned! I made social connections and great friends through MeetUp, Craigslist, Couchsurfing, and Patook. I've also made friends through work, volunteering, and carpooling. I find what makes it easy is asking people questions--showing a genuine curiosity without judgement. I also don't limit myself to making friends with people who are similar to me. It's great to have people you can relate to in your life, but you also get amazing experiences from engaging with people who are different from you, which is a two-way street. Use your difference in background to your advantage! Your story sounds interesting, especially to people who don't share your experience! I think if you are open and empathetic (while ensuring others aren't taking advantage of you) to others, people will enjoy being around you :-)
I move a lot. And I found that showing up consistently was a great way to start making friends. So every week I would try to do similar activities at the same time. Be that grocery shopping, the pool, a group activity or for a walk. You become a familiar face and start making connections. It takes a bit of time but I also like having a set schedule :)
I make friends at church. Over the years I have learned to show interest and care for people. After some time, they begin calling me friend. I genuinely care and offer help, message them encouraging texts, make them laugh when life is sad or serious, and pray with them for their life and family. I become a great friend, the kind of friend I would like to have. Sometimes the love is reciprocated, sometimes it’s not. Either way, I make the effort...because sometimes people don’t know how to reciprocate when they’ve been hurt or lost trust in people. In short, I’d say...Keep Caring ♥️
Do you have a hobby? Real friendships are more difficult to make later in life, but when you do it's often based on a similar interest: dancing, hiking, drawing...
Yes to the hobbies! Finally took the dive and started taking a pottery class. I've wanted to learn how to use a pottery wheel my whole life and it's so fulfilling and rewarding accomplishing that dream.
+1point on organizing and labelling your stuff, because that makes it easter for others(roommates, family, coworkers 😉) to find what they need without bothering you too much!
Love the video! One of my fav. all time hacks to look competent is using Scheduled Text messages! They are a life saver. If I remember that I need to follow up with someone, I type in the text and have it scheduled to send at a certain time. That way, I don't need to 'remember to text someone' instead I actually have the text sent! Most of the time I forget I have done it already, but I get a response and I kinda pat my past self for scheduling it!
I’m curious: how would you distinguish between hobbies and side hustles? Is it a hobby if it makes you money? I work a day job, but all of my productive time outside of that is dedicated to novel writing. And, as Lindsay Ellis pointed out a few weeks ago, that’s an art form that takes many years and many attempts before something becomes good enough to be at all sellable. So it feels too much a part of my life to call simply a hobby, but it doesn’t bring in income...yet.
I think that’s the difference between calling something a ‘hobby’ vs. calling it a ‘passion’. People tend to talk about something that doesn’t necessarily earn them any money (in fact they tend to spend lots of money on it over time) but it brings them some sort of joy doing it, so they refer to it as a ‘passion’ of theirs. For example, a person might spend hours upon hours painting, buying all types of expensive stuff (Easel, canvas, and other painting materials) to do so, and she/he feel good about it despite not selling her/his paintings because painting and art is their passion (or one of their passions).
A hobby can be something huge and very skilled. Some people love to look down on something by saying "it's just a hobby" but to me it's anything enjoyable and skill building you do outside of work.
I have 3 account with 3 different banks. One main account for income/ expenses, one for savings/ investments and one for "casual" savings like saving for a trip, a new car etc. I've made standing orders for each of the savings accounts, so every month when I pay my rent I also pay myself a set amount that goes to savings. I hope that helps :)
I have 3 savings accounts in the same bank. Their purpose changes depending on what’s happening in my life. Right now I have one for regular savings, one for annual large expenses (property taxes, etc) and one for my sons’ college expenses (dorm, meal plans, etc.) I have automatic transfers scheduled twice a month.
I personally have opened around 6 savings accounts alongside my current and credit account. I live in the UK and my bank - Barclays, has a really cool banking app where I can open as many savings accounts as I wish and swap money between them easily. They all have different labels and are for different things, once a goal is complete - I rename the account and set a new goal. :)
Look up capital one savings accounts, you can have them all connected to one account and label them with things like i do ex "car", "concert" "emergency funds" it is great, highly recommend it and you get nice interests added to it for keeping it in a savings account
If you use online banking you can generally just click a button to open an extra account then click on the name of the account to change it. I've got a few active ones at the moment. One is for spending on family stuff like holidays, days out and things for the house. One is savings for a new boiler because ours is super old and might stop working at any time and is no longer worth getting fixed. One I just use to buy myself stuff that I want. So my accounts are called family savings, boiler savings and fun stuff. I have standing orders (automatic transfers of money) set up for right after payday to put some money in each account every month. I also transfer any money left over from the previous month into my Fun Money. This helps me to know if I'm spending within my means and to change my automatic savings transfers if I've set them too high or low (too high and I'll end up in my overdraft every month. If I have money left over every month I can put more in savings or my pension). On online banking you get a summary page which just shows you the name of each account, the account number and the balance. You can instantly see how much money you have. You can then click into each one to see payments in and out over the month including any interest you've earned. It's just like having a bunch of tin cans or piggy banks with labels telling you how much is in it and what they money can be spent on. You just don't have to physically put cash money into them and update the numbers.
I love google calendar and use it all the time for everything. Also have several savings acct at seperate banks works miracles when saving for both short term and long term financial goals
Great video! I would love a more in detail look at how you manage your social life. I constantly struggle with getting my friends to follow through with things we discuss and I would love some more tips on how to do it!
Tiara O And the ancillary “we should get coffee/dinner/drinks sometime...” invitations. I *always* follow up with dates and I rarely hear anything back. I know people who have been saying this to me for literally three years.
I am proactive and set a solid date and time with people...not being flaky is one of my only expectations for my friends, and they know it! I am fine with them being late or rescheduling if it's not all the time and they communicate that to me. If someone doesn't respect your time and will only hang out if they don't have "something better to do" (thus they won't commit to plans), then that's maybe not a good fit, especially for someone who prefers to have plans. I'm not pushy, but I've found that just saying "we should do lunch" leaves each person thinking the other is going to plan it. And, if you try to extend a date and time, they can accept, propose a different date/time, or ignore/decline your offer. In any case, you have a concrete conclusion of either enacting a plan or finding out that the other person was not really interested.
VN B These are professional connections (ironic, I know). Generally it is former coworkers and alumni that I see or speak to one or more times a year. And they insist every time that we should “finally” get together and “this time let’s really do it.” I have concluded that they are social climbers and that I don’t have something they want right now that makes them want to follow through.
Some really insightful advice in here. My problem (among many others) is that I lack the willpower to do the most basic things, and literally prioritize sedating myself with mundane video games in my leisure time to keep my mind quiet. Routine/habits are so important for leading a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. I should take up piano lessons again. Thanks, Chelsea!
It would be awesome to see some visuals of the things you're talking about (AKA when you're discussing your kitchen organization, show some footage, rather than just describing it. I appreciate your content, but it would really step up your videos if you did this!
Use Calendar Label boxes( little boxes little boxes- Pete Seeger) Have multiple Savings account Follow up with notes ( I am doing it on the comment section) Give opinion on something you actually know about (E.G Medicare for all will not work ,uh noot) Use a tailor ( They are usually at the end of the mall) Have a website ( maybe a plug for a website) Have a hobby ( like making TH-cam videos) open an account on M&T Bank is the commercial Plug. Great channel helped me a lot
This is great advice. I juggle lots of projects but I also have an energy sapping autoimmune condition. I have to pace myself carefully and schedule naps. But, if I do stay organized and included what I need to stay as healthy as possible I can accomplish more of what I love. In my case songwriting and performance. I also love the point about be the person who took the notes!! I seem like I have it together and will be spared the embarrassment of my bad memory and brain fog impacting on working and social relationships.
The thing in this video are all things I want to do but I never actually start... It's annoying. Btw when you started talking about how you see your friends as a career I rly saw myself on you heheheh This one friend of mine said we could get cheaper plane tickets on a promo they saw and said it would be nice to travel internationally for the first time. I immediately proceeded to organize the whole trip, found accommodations, made the travel insurance simulations, made a whole estimation of costs of food and transportation and started prepping everything as soon as we stopped talking. My friend was impressed but then said they had to use the money for something else heueheh honestly just planning the trip was already fun by itself.
This video has just validate how I try to live my life. I actually had to pause this video to send the Google invite so I can remind someone of an event we planned.
I would love to use a tailor. I've wanted it for years. But it IS too expensive. Maybe it's because the situation is different in my country or just my area. But as a man, having a suit tailored can easily cost the equivalent of 1½ months of salary. But maybe that could be a savings account.
If you have a savings account that accrues interest, would it better to have ALL of your savings in one account so that you have a higher balance that accrues more interest, or is it better to split up the funds across multiple accounts?
I think it's best to have a larger amount in the savings account that earns the highest interest, then have another savings account with a smaller amount that is super liquid. Personally I have a savings account that earns zilch but I can get it out immediately, and a larger amount in an online-only savings account that takes a few days to be transferred.
If the two accounts have the same interest rate, you’ll earn the same amount of interest whether you have all the money in one account or split it up between the two. For example: $100 in an account with a 2% interest rate will earn you $2. (2% of $100 = $2). $50 in an account with a 2% interest rate will earn you $1. (2% of $50 = $1). But you have two accounts so you still end up with $2. However, if the two accounts have different interest rates, that changes. You obviously want to put most of your money where it will earn you the most interest, but this often comes with less accessibility. Real-world example: I have an online savings account with a high interest rate, but it takes several business days to transfer funds out, so I also keep a smaller emergency fund ($1,000) in a savings account in the same bank where I have my checking account, so I can instantly transfer money over when I need to. This means I can easily access up to $1,000 at once, but I also have the majority of my emergency savings earning higher interest in an online account.
Irish Lass Thanks so much for this explanation. I have an online savings account with a 1.7% interest (it used to be 2.2% but they keep lowering it due to the “national federal average” which I barely understand). Would it make sense for me to have three savings accounts under this online bank all labeled for different purposes, or just have it all in one general account? This is aside from having a quick access savings at a typical bank like chase.
26DaysToWorkWith thank you for your reply. When you say super liquid so you mean you can access the money quicker or that it is tied to your checking account? Edit: I looked it up and I see what you mean now haha. Thank you so much for your input!
Yes! Hobbies are so important! Especially if they're out of the house and involve getting to know other people (no shade toward hobbies that don't involve people, they just usually don't make the best small talk fodder). I recently went to a multi-day networking event for (mainly) undergrad students and realized that having hobbies is not very common so now it instantly makes you sound a little bit more put together. What sounds like it takes up a lot of my time (dance) is really just 1-4 hours of class per week (depending on what I feel like taking), a small bit of practice everyday, and a 2-5 performances in a year. It's not a huge commitment but it's definitely been one of those things that's helped me appear to be a more well-rounded person when getting to know people.
Thank you; I found many of the ideas useful. Could you go into more detail about your follow-up emails on event planning for friends? I’m struggling with having an email like this not seeming abrupt or bossy.
4 - Always following up with notes - I would love to be your friend and plan events with you, Chelsea! I always want to plan fun group activities, but my friends would rather just go with the flow.
Capital one saving accounts are so nice! I first put money in them and then I pick which one I sacrifice for small expenses like food/shopping lol it works!
Google calendar is interesting because I use iCal obsessively but many friends use google calendar. I have a gmail account and one friend often sends me google calendar invites to personal occasions. Fortunately google calendar can easily be integrated with google calendar, though these events often end up on my calendar twice. Lol
Oh my gosh haha I think Chelsea and i might be made out of the same material or something cuz I just came from her Rituals video and now this, it's all the things that I am trying to do with myself to become a less chaotic and more... adulty adult! Just thought it was cool and also very affirming, as these changes aren't the easiest to make into natural habits at first :,)
Having multiple savings accounts may result in paying excess fees. Or, keeping your savings in a chequing account may eliminate fees there if you keep a minimum balance.
I'm so glad when I grew up my mom had a family agenda where if it wasn't written down it wasn't happening. I've kept that going with my google calendar, so even though I have a bad memory people know once I say something will happen that it's going to happen.
First, I applaud you. Most people don't seem to care about this stuff anymore. Second, You poor unfortunate soul. Look into Nextcloud. It offers the convenience of Google Calendar, but with far better privacy. You have two options both of which aren't as convenient, but are very great alternatives indeed. You can either host nextcloud yourself or sign up with a person or entity who already hosts nextcloud. I would offer mine but I am still working on opening it up to the public. Therefore my recommendation is probably disroot.org
My friend remarked about how her business was almost ruined because of people fronting, and posing themselves as competent but not actually being competent
Why do you have boxes in the kitchen, don't you have kitchen cabinets and drawers? I'm confused, are your kitchen cabinets overfill so now your using boxes?
Multiple savings accounts means smaller amounts in each account. Many saving accounts give better interest the more you save, although that may only kick in at 1000 or 10000 point. Instead have one account and a spreadsheet to balance amounts for purpose. Use a spreadsheet to manage all accounts whether banking, savings or credit cards. I include future regular (rent, gas, electricity, phone) and expected (allowance each month for food, entered into the month for an annual payment like road tax or car insurance) payments. I can see in advance when I need to top up the bank account from savings just in time avoiding charges and making most of that 0.5% interest savings accounts have. If bills are not due for a couple of weeks you can move the money into the best savings account and then back before the due date.
I wanted to do the multiple savings account thing, but my bank sent me another debit card for the new account I separated out which I find annoying....Now I have to remember which debit card is for which account lol and don't want to make any more savings delineations
@LagiNaLangAko23 debit cards can be returned while still keeping the account open? 🤔 Mostly I just don't want to have additional clutter I have to keep track of lol
How would you seem more competent by having multiple savings accounts? Who would even know about that? You go around bragging about your multiple accounts?! I get that they are the sponsors of the video but that's a very silly way of merging the sponsor into the content of the video.

Sad but true, a lot of things you love to do get pushed to the back burner as a working slave adult. Welcome to adulting 101:(
I thought it was just me! I often think “where do kids fit in?!”
I used to think this but now I trying to change it. Maybe you can use your travel time to work as some "me time". Listening to a podcast or an audio book so it feels like you actually use this time.
A self actualization coach worded it better "act real , 'till you remember how competent you actually are"
What a great way to reword it !
People can see through "faking it". Just keep working on yourself consistently. Onward and upward.
I feel like Chelsea finds a way to weave in her love for tailoring at least once in every video 😂
Madeleine Thompson so true lol
Madeleine Thompson It’s definitely not every video but because she has mentioned it a few times we remember
Madeleine Thompson kinda glad I can tailor.

So in summary: be organized, pick your battles, and look professional
@@emiliabolsas yikes, sounds like getting together would be just as bad as not getting together! What a bummer!
Can you please do a detailed video on tailoring. Like maybe take some pieces to get tailored. So before sand afters.
My hobby is watching TH-cam videos by channels that educate me on topics I care about - like TFD! 😜
Interviewer: What can you bring to the table?
Me: I have containers of kitchen utensils in my drawers.
Interviewer: *you’re hired*
Some really insightful advice in here.
My problem (among many others) is that I lack the willpower to do the most basic things, and literally prioritize sedating myself with mundane video games in my leisure time to keep my mind quiet.
Routine/habits are so important for leading a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling.
I should take up piano lessons again.
Thanks, Chelsea!
You sound like my kind of friend lol I like people that are good at planning events.
It would be awesome to see some visuals of the things you're talking about (AKA when you're discussing your kitchen organization, show some footage, rather than just describing it. I appreciate your content, but it would really step up your videos if you did this!
"Chaotic digital footprint" just resonate with me
I’d like to add: proofread and grammar check your emails and social media posts. Learn the difference between it’s and its.
You're so funny! I laughed out loud a few times while watching this. Great video and really helpful, actionable advice. Thanks, Chelsea!
I've been getting lazy with my Google Calendar and this was the push I needed to get back into it. Awesome video! :)
Use Calendar
Label boxes( little boxes little boxes- Pete Seeger)
Have multiple Savings account
Follow up with notes ( I am doing it on the comment section)
Give opinion on something you actually know about (E.G Medicare for all will not work ,uh noot)
Use a tailor ( They are usually at the end of the mall)
Have a website ( maybe a plug for a website)
Have a hobby ( like making TH-cam videos)
open an account on M&T Bank is the commercial Plug.
Great channel helped me a lot
This was great. Chelsea you should do ALL the TFD videos .. just saying !
Haha she did nail it!
“I’m a facilitator” needs to be a t-shirt
You had me at meatspace.
A great casting couch spinoff
“Meat Space!” I’m dead. Hahaha
11:00 I didn't come here to be singled out like this.
Yeah, I feel you
2:53 Ouch
Chelsea has to pay the bills though...
"...and now she's got all kind of opinions on soy..." I'm gonna start muttering this under my breath!
Do you have a lot of Capricorn in your chart? You’re the most serious youtuber ive ever watched. I love it!
I am obsessed with your hair! gorgeous!
Can you make a video explaining the system you use to organize things in your calendar?
This video has just validate how I try to live my life. I actually had to pause this video to send the Google invite so I can remind someone of an event we planned.
I would love to use a tailor. I've wanted it for years. But it IS too expensive. Maybe it's because the situation is different in my country or just my area. But as a man, having a suit tailored can easily cost the equivalent of 1½ months of salary.
But maybe that could be a savings account.
I stopped the video and liked it after "PLUS IT'S FUN TO LABEL" bit
“Meat Space is how weird people say Real Life.” Bhahahahaa Yes
For example:
$100 in an account with a 2% interest rate will earn you $2.
These are tips on actually being competent, not faking it. I don't have time to really be competent, Chelsea!!
I use iCal to organise my life on my phone, I couldn't do without it
This is exactly what I need to hear. Thank you!!
As sad as it is, I have zero hobbies anymore and couldn't even pick one if I needed to. Am I alone in this? And I do feel unbalanced, for sure.
Happy Tuesday
Capital one saving accounts are so nice! I first put money in them and then I pick which one I sacrifice for small expenses like food/shopping lol it works!
Google calendar is interesting because I use iCal obsessively but many friends use google calendar. I have a gmail account and one friend often sends me google calendar invites to personal occasions. Fortunately google calendar can easily be integrated with google calendar, though these events often end up on my calendar twice. Lol
you're so hilarious lately. or maybe my sense of humor is becoming more refined.
Marina Villeneuve it’s that like sprinkling of sarcasm where you least expect it with her smirk, absolute gold lmao.
Oh my gosh haha I think Chelsea and i might be made out of the same material or something cuz I just came from her Rituals video and now this, it's all the things that I am trying to do with myself to become a less chaotic and more... adulty adult! Just thought it was cool and also very affirming, as these changes aren't the easiest to make into natural habits at first :,)
Mind = blown. I always tried to make my body fit into clothes better while you're getting your clothes tailored to fit your body :D
Having multiple savings accounts may result in paying excess fees. Or, keeping your savings in a chequing account may eliminate fees there if you keep a minimum balance.
In 2007, we were all playing FarmVille on Facebook, right? Right?!
You get a like solely because you referred to real life as Meat Space. 10/10
I'm so glad when I grew up my mom had a family agenda where if it wasn't written down it wasn't happening. I've kept that going with my google calendar, so even though I have a bad memory people know once I say something will happen that it's going to happen.
Discipline MAKES you more competent. NOTHING ELSE
Your hair look amazing!
Wow, that was very useful!!
Why Google Calendar? They read my entire schedule so that they can serve me ads if I do that. Before you go there, Apple's calendar is no better btw.
Google doesn’t serve personalized ads if you have a professional gsuite account, fyi
My friend remarked about how her business was almost ruined because of people fronting, and posing themselves as competent but not actually being competent
In my country taylors are super cheap! and I know one that is good, imaginative, and friendly. I cherish her
12:56 well damn if this ain't been my life since I started my first full-time job a few months ago!!
I’m here for Chelsea’s social engagement wizardry...Teach us your ways!
Great advice! I like how you talked about trust being a huge benefit!
Why do you have boxes in the kitchen, don't you have kitchen cabinets and drawers? I'm confused, are your kitchen cabinets overfill so now your using boxes?
This whole thing stressed me the F*UCK out!!!!
....
Which is probably why I need it -.-
Multiple savings accounts means smaller amounts in each account.
Could make more in a high-yield savings account
What kind of camera do you use to record TFD videos?
really good tips! pure gold, thanks!!
You got me in to mood to declutter and organise.
So, did they travel to Italy in February 2020?
I use google calendar too!!
Great video Chelsea! Of course I especially like the goal of having a hobby :)
Hey you made some good points! Thanks
Knowing Chelsea also saves Talenti jars makes me feel more competent 😅
Excellent.
Excellent 👏🏻
Extremely helpful
I'm a facilitator.....
Lmfao. Omg Chelsea, I fucking love you!!!
great video, keep it up!
* grabs Wikipedia article of burn centers for Uncle Steve *
Are you recording this at night time?
I have two savings accounts... shame they are both near empty!
Yes!! Missed your videos, Chelsea.
Chelsea, You look so nice today. Very pretty!
FYI, don't google meatspace
"Meet space"?! HAHAHAHAHA
You crack me up Chels 😂
Is shopping and trying to look nice a hobby?
Damn, that hair though!
How would you seem more competent by having multiple savings accounts? Who would even know about that? You go around bragging about your multiple accounts?! I get that they are the sponsors of the video but that's a very silly way of merging the sponsor into the content of the video.
Don't become competent. You will be required to do things for other people that are not competent. Consider yourself warned.
this video gives me virgo vibes lol
I was going to ask if she is a Capricorn. 🤔
