Hey there, that's the spirit!! I'm excited to see what you come up with next, you guys got a good thing going with the MG30! Cheers and thank you for checking out the video!
NUX: If it had an XLR out, I would 100% get it. It is the one thing I need that is not in the POD GO for me to get it as a backup rig for my Helix Floor. I agree with the video that drum machine is unnecessary. I would prefer being able to have multiple delays, etc. Disagree with the snapshots comment. Snapshots is the reason I would not go back to an analog rig.
@@Goldensword18 hey bud, I'm pretty sure everything you mentioned would have to bring the price up, I would say that these things would also require new software and new hardware.. perhaps, if sales numbers for the MG30 are favorable, we might see a better flagship model with a more flexible signal chain, more switches, more effects and an advanced switching mode at a higher price point.. I guess we would have to wait and see but for now, at this pricepoint, I don't see any competition for this unit. Cheers!
Just a quick note, I know this video was made 3 years ago and perhaps since them NUX added some new features but I also purchase one of this 3 months ago and you can add more than one modulation effect if you sacrifice an SFX (drive), also same with delays, you can super long press switch COMP, SFX, MOD and DELAY and they swap effects too now. Also as a bassist the possibility to put MODS, DELAYS and REVERB in parallel mode gave me the possibility to SWAP MOD with DRIVE mode and put my selected drive in parallel mode, so you don't miss your lows !
Came here expecting not much. Leaving a subscriber. Respect. Mine arrives 21 April. The limitations you mention are not an issue for me. I also have a Stomp but just don't need what it offers. Will probably keep though just in case. Best Regards! If Zoom comes here..listen to this guy and get a support infrastructure/community for the G11!!!!
What a refreshing change to hear some clean playing on these modellers. Almost every demo has ridiculous distortion that tells you nothing about the subtlety (or otherwise) of the product. Thank you.
Thumbs up for the honest and in depth review! No one has been talking about the bad side of MG30 so far so kudos to that! I think MG30 is more for players who just want plug and play with minimal setup while HX is targeted towards more for intermediate advanced players. HX is a unit that can actually grow with you and contains amazing flexibility! As a stand alone unit I'll go with NuX, but HX just has limitless potential! Both are great!!!
I think this point in the video is a bit exaggerated. The HX Stomp is definitely not a device with limitless potential. To the contrary. With its dingle DSP and therefore small block limit many of the things you theoretically _could_ do will not work in practice. And with all this limits it does cost nearly two times as much as the NUX MG30.... bugger I could buy two NUX MG30 and create two chains with them for that price ^^
OR, for Intermediate/Advanced players "of a certain age" who don't want to squint to read a display :) And who are over all the "stuff" and just want good tones. I have a G11 because it's so easy to use and soo easy to read/.see. Best Regards!
I'm shopping for a backup for my AxeFXIII for fly-gigs. I've been watching a lot of these videos trying to decide between the two. I appreciate your honesty and directness. No evidence of 'waffle' like some other channels. Kudos.
For those who play in live settings, these two serve different purposes. The NUX MG-30 is a all-in-one, easy to carry, plug & Play solution. The HX Stomp is better as an addition to an existing rig. For studio and bedroom warriors you may prefer the "extra sound" you get from Line 6, even if you pay more and get not expression pedal.
Great and honest review thanks. I will say I’m not a fuzz guy and as a home player I would like more drums . But our differences make life interesting. I can see why you are going for the Stomp and you definitely should but for me the MG30 will suit me. I look forward to more videos on this and other things . Cheers 😀👍👍
hey there, hope you're doing well! thanks for the comment! The drums are definitely a cool practice tool! I'm actually sticking with the MG30 since it's way more affordable and sounds really good even though it's much more limiting than the Stomp. I think the tones you can get out of this justify for it not being as flexible. If I'm honest with myself, I never use a lot of effects, most of my presets consist of an amp model, overdrive pedal and reverb so for now, the Nux will suffice. Cheers man, thanks for hanging out!
Hey there, I sent a request to join the group but my request hasn:t been accepted yet.. I'm intrigued to see what they'll bring with the update.. cheers!
SUPER helpful, mate! I feel like it helped me to really know what to expect from this ‘new kid on the block’. So I feel like buying this thing is definitely the right move for me. And I was just about to burn $400 just on only 3 pedals. This is way better. 👍👍
I am looking at the MG30 because to get an HX Stomp I'd have to sell an amp and several pedals. The HX Stomp seems complicated. I don't have any experience with advanced modellers. Always use an amp if possible, or a preamp pedal into an IR loader or an amp+cab sim device like the Humboldt Simplifier at the end of my regular pedalboard. I had a NUX Cerberus and hated the drives and the mods could not be re-routed. It also had a problem with presets -you lost Tap Tempo! You had to go into "Edit" mode. Sold it. Many good points. One thing though: The HX Stomp has only 6 Blocks - one of them is Amp&Cab. This leaves 5 for delay, drive, gate, mod, reverb, compressor and EQ. The result: it is similar restricted as the stomp in this case, just with different trade offs. You are absolutely right about the community. One part of that equation is... we! 😉
Just to correct this: Stomp got 8 Blocks with firmware 3.0. But: Amp&IR is two blocks and some effects are so expensive that you cannot fill all 8 blocks

Very true, if you need more power it means digging deep into your pockets and buying it's big brother which has two processors. Of course we'd all like a four processor model for the price of a stomp
@@MarkRigler Thats what many don't get when new budget models come out. I don't know how often I did hear "but Kemper, Helix (full) or Fractal is still better". The Stomp is near the budget modellers like Ampero, GE200 and now MG30. There still is a range between them: Stomp is significantly more expensive than GE200 or MG30 and this does not in all things converts into value. There are a lot of good devices now in this price range.
@@MarkRigler absolutely. The Stomp already is nearly double the price of the MG30. I think the bespoken flexibility of the chain isn't really a thing with the 1 dsp Stomp. You get alot more Amps and Effects though. I do use TH-U on iOS to get a huge amount of Amps and Effects and the MG30 is a really good low latency audio interface to use with that thing. This even makes extensive multi amp chains possible.
This is very interesting. I think from what you explained that the Nux is a more limited piece of kit and is more comparable to the Pod go. It’s good but not as versatile and with lots to prove yet with software support. Nux is a cool company in terms of the product they put out. Well done and thank you for putting the time in to make this video 😊
They both are limited in different ways. The Stomp with its single DSP just can't handle that many blocks. This means you can create chains in the MG30 that cannot be done in the Stomp. On the other side: The MG30 has some restrictions regarding multiple usage of some effects. The only block that you can use two times is the drive block. You cannot use e.g two different Amps, IRs, gates, delays... there is though the model of their NUX duotime in... which is two delays in one block. With the quite low block limit in the Stomp, there isn't much chance to use multiple blocks of the same kind too. Its different trade offs, but essentially similar limited.
@@MrRafaztar Well... everybody seemed to get it different... that the HX Stomp is a "limitless" expandable experience where the MG30 is quite limited... which is actually not really true. The Stomp is two times the price of MG30 and still quite limited
@@aptfx I am coming from a place that I own the stomp and understand it’s limitations but don’t know the Nux. The advantage of the stomp is how well it integrates in pedal boards making it more of a “limitless” device

So, you can't change the presets order with the same unit for playing live? Foot switch isn't bad but doesn't gets with me at all. Damn...I've been watching reviews but no one talks about it and I appreciate you did! I was hyped for getting this but the preset stuff was the final call so thank you for your honesty! Greetings!
Hey buddy, with the MG-30 alone, you can use the 2 footswitches from the left to scroll through presets and you can assign the CTRL footswitch to switch an effect on and off or you can use it as a tap tempo for your time-based effects. Cheers!
Thanks for cutting through the hype on this unit. Not to blame the other TH-camrs making semi-promotional videos, they definitely have their place, but a video as well thought out as this from an end user is pure gold. I'm looking at getting the MG-30 as much for the bass amps as for the guitar stuff. Thank you!
Hey man! Thank you so much man, I appreciate it! I believe that the product delivered to it's hype, I think it's a very nice product that I'll actually keep! I also understand the guys that got this directly from the company, they had to leave a good impression and they were lucky because there isn't much to criticize about this. With that being said, I feel like a reviewer should point out the most important things no matter if they are good or bad. This way, the consumers know what they're getting and the company knows what they should work on.. Sorry for the lengthy response, thank you for your time, cheers!
My dude-never change! You came at this with everything I wanted to hear someone’s opinion on (such as how the amp models compare) where most reviewers will just not bother, or say like, ‘oh all of them just sound good these days so… that’s all I can say about that…’ Thanks!
Hey man, thank you! Considering that they almost have the same feature set, I would go for the NUX as it sounds really good (better in my opinion but that's subjective). The NUX is also cheaper than the POD GO. I would say, grab a piece of paper, write the pros and cons for both and decide. Cheers and stay safe!
Are the line-outs balanced, so you could use TRS to XLR cables direct to FoH? I am currently able to do this with my Headrush Gigboard, so this would be very useful to be able to go directly to the mixer, as we use IEMs.
I think they would have to be. Considering it's an entire rig modeller in itself, any patches that include amp modelling and an IR would sound pretty terrible running through a guitar amp, the only practical way to run them would directly into a PA.
Where do the XLRs go? I use XLR to TRS! I plug the TRS end(s) into the line input(s) of the mixer that then goes to two 500W FRFR powered PA speakers. My NUX Solid Studio IR loader and Humboldt Simplifier have XLR outs, but my GFI Cabzeus Stereo only has TRS outs (that one I go TRS-to-TRS).
Not only MOD. Also parallel DLY and Reverb. You can also switch the MOD to another EFX and have parallel distortion… interesting for bass (parallel clean distorted)
Waiting for my NUX in the post... A year later, and 3rd update? And I read in ur comments they have a great Facebook page Including staff at hand Did they add more fuss sounds that u wanted in those updates? Either way, it's like NUX have been listening to u mate lol Great stuff... Only thing u could have maybe added... & I could be wrong here But the NUX seems like a few choices in its design where aimed more at home and studio users more than live users? Is the line 6 the same? I know I've ordered mine now, but I'm not against buying a 2nd unit by say line 6 and seeing if I can connect them together lol I am already planning on s bunch of pedals to help solve the 1 box at a time issue u mentioned But a line 6 might be a better choice Use the send return on the nux or vice versa I'm a vast user btw Haven't owned hardware guitar gear in Maybe 15 years now Other than an amp or 2 with some cheapo pedals lol Anyway nice review It's nice to watch 1 that's doesn't sorta just so the same as all the rest tell us lol I'm at work 12 hour shifts for the next 4 days... My nux arrives tomorrow Can't use it for 4 days 😭 But then I got 4 days if so boom... Can't wait lol
Hey there, I haven't played any of the GT Series amp modellers but I am a big fan of the Boss Nextone amps. The GT1000 Core looks like a decent candidate to check out especially if you're looking for a versatile solution. I think the routings and signal chains can get as complicated as you want with that one. Cheers!
And you can switch EFX to MOD and MOD to EFX and CMP between CMP and EFX. So you could also stack up to 3 EFX or 2 MOD with a CMP or EFX. The MOD/EFX Block can be in a parallel chain (also DLY and RVB)
Hey Gonzalo! I have Amplitube 5 Max and it's an amazing piece of software. If you have that, I think your good to go for home use. If you're looking for hardware to take out and gig with, the HX Stomp is a very good contender. I jope this helps, cheers!
could this be used with the HX effects and placed in the centre of the signal chain... I could always disable the cab on this and use the HX one instead
Good video Krenar. I’m sure this will get loads of views as these multi effects are so popular (Ok, old dudes like me prefer just an amp and 1 or 2 stomp boxes, but hey😁). I smiled during your intro..... I can really picture you with a jazz guitar, pulling out those mellow tones.
Hahahahah thanks Paul, I appreciate that a lot, thanks for stopping by and watching my video! Now you really got me itching bad time for a jazzbox! Cheers man! 😂
finally someone mentions what I suspected and couldn't confirm in the manual. Effects types are locked in to their respective block, which is a major let down for me and likely makes this a pass. My nearly ten year old HD500X and Zoom MS-100BT can do any effect you want anywhere you want. I guess the MG-30 is just not for me, which is a shame since I liked that they offer something other than an Ampeg bass amp like every other modeler on the planet outside of Zoom. Thanks for sharing!
I guess they might be leaving room to improve with a bigger (more expensive) unit. The sounds you can get out of this are awesome! I hope they take these functionality and routing aspects into consideration with the next MG unit.
I wish the Helix and Nux both released an amp modelling/sim platform only (like HX Effects, but HX amps) so they would focus more on the amp models and cabinets then we'll just hook up our favorite pedals. That would be cool to have and these 2 companies are great at amp modeling at their respective price points Besides we, well I personally aim to have a lighter rig
IKR. Only Mooer did that with their Preamp Live. It sounds very good and even can copy any amp with 4 cable method like kemper or axe. It is discontinued and very faulty unit though, breaks often and Mooer don't provide service. Shame
hey man, unfortunately, I haven't played either of them but I've heard the boss gt1 is a pretty good sounding unit for it's price although the zoom g5n seems to have more features. Nowadays everything sounds great, you just have to find your own thing. Sorry for my uneducated response, cheers!
For sure man, and it doesn't cost a lot more than the gt1, I sold my entire board to get a stomp and it wouldn't have covered it. I'm stoked that this thing came up at that time... The HX Stomp is wonderful but for the price, this thing will suffice, for sure!
hello everyone, total 5 footswitches (including 2 external). My preference is stompbox mode. Can this be done with nux mg30? 1 delay 1 boost (eq or comp) 1 chorus 1 overdrive/distortion 1 reverb --- 5
hey buddy, unfortunately, at the moment that is not possible. You can switch 3 effects on or of and 2 footswitches are dedicated for scrolling through the presets. cheers!
Don't listen to this man, with an MG30 you can do the same thing as with the Helix, The sound is also very similar, you just have to spend time setting it up
Thanks Graeme! Ah, I suspect you love your tube amps and I can't blame you, I've seen your name pop up at the fantastic Paul Straffords' channel and his gear and playing is just immaculate. I would have to agree with you, I wish I could have a Princeton by my side turned to it's sweetspot with some lush reverb but I am a student and I can't afford, nor can I turn up a Princeton lol I really appreciate you taking your time to watch my video man, it means a lot! cheers!

The amp models on the mg 30 are way to gainy, most you can't go above 3 with the gain and it's way to much. The new 5150 amp sounds like a crapped out fuzz pedal
Nux completely completely extinguishes and destroys any line 6 gear when it comes to attention to detail with tone... The amp modeling and effects sound unbelievable... Line 6 is made better and maybe it has more options I'll give you that .. but sound wise no comparison not even in the same ballpark nux is unbelievable people.. if you want to make it your rig IDK more options may be better but if u want tone don't get line 6

I think they addressed all the concerns fairly well. Specially with the double effects and the scene setting.
I know! I’m sick of every “review” being a thinly-veiled promotion!!
My dude-never change! You came at this with everything I wanted to hear someone’s opinion on (such as how the amp models compare) where most reviewers will just not bother, or say like, ‘oh all of them just sound good these days so… that’s all I can say about that…’
Thanks!
Thanks.
Maybe hx is not comparable with mg 30. But how about pod go? I'm curious about it.
Worth to mention that the MG-30 might not have the snapshots on the HX but it has the scenes
Yes, I believe they added them with an update. Big thumbs up for that!
Great job!
Thanks for checking out my video man, cheers!
Another advantage for HX is that the effects loop is stereo.
yup, true! The HX Stomp overall has more features that are pretty useful, cheers!
Damn i just bought the nux but bro the line 6 is literally twice the price thou
Thanks man! Does it have metronome? Have a nice day!!!
Hey there, it does have a metronome and a drum machine. Cheers!
Excellent video! Would you choose the NUX over the Pod Go?
Hey man, thank you!
Considering that they almost have the same feature set, I would go for the NUX as it sounds really good (better in my opinion but that's subjective). The NUX is also cheaper than the POD GO. I would say, grab a piece of paper, write the pros and cons for both and decide. Cheers and stay safe!
Are the line-outs balanced, so you could use TRS to XLR cables direct to FoH? I am currently able to do this with my Headrush Gigboard, so this would be very useful to be able to go directly to the mixer, as we use IEMs.
Hey buddy, as far as I'm aware the outputs are not balanced but I might be wrong. Sorry I couldn't help you out there, cheers!
Hi, thanks for this review.
I saw somewhere that there's a parallel mode, to enable the multiple use of mod effects, you should check that.
Not only MOD. Also parallel DLY and Reverb. You can also switch the MOD to another EFX and have parallel distortion… interesting for bass (parallel clean distorted)
Waiting for my NUX in the post...
A year later, and 3rd update?
And I read in ur comments they have a great Facebook page
Including staff at hand
Did they add more fuss sounds that u wanted in those updates?
Either way, it's like NUX have been listening to u mate lol
Great stuff...
Only thing u could have maybe added...
& I could be wrong here
But the NUX seems like a few choices in its design where aimed more at home and studio users more than live users?
Is the line 6 the same?
I know I've ordered mine now, but I'm not against buying a 2nd unit by say line 6 and seeing if I can connect them together lol
I am already planning on s bunch of pedals to help solve the 1 box at a time issue u mentioned
But a line 6 might be a better choice
Use the send return on the nux or vice versa
I'm a vast user btw
Haven't owned hardware guitar gear in Maybe 15 years now
Other than an amp or 2 with some cheapo pedals lol
Anyway nice review
It's nice to watch 1 that's doesn't sorta just so the same as all the rest tell us lol
I'm at work 12 hour shifts for the next 4 days...
My nux arrives tomorrow
Can't use it for 4 days 😭
But then I got 4 days if so boom...
Can't wait lol
So you mean that we can not use ST CHORUS with PHASER or other multiple modulation ?
Hey Adhiraj, unfortunately no...
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar thanks man, this video really helped me alot.
Very cool video Krenar!
You got the attention of NUX so mission success!
I hope Gretsch sees my new song 🎵
Thanks Andy! I just checked your video and it's cool as hell! Awesome stuff, cheers!
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar thanks bro! Good to see you in MHH chat as well!
We definitely have to collab on track one day
You can compare things that are different/better/worse, with the outcome being "one is better than the other one".
Pershendetje Krenar,a e sugjeron kete per bass apo ndonje tjeter
Hi great video. Was wondering where you see the Boss GT series fitting in. Thanks.
Cheers!
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar Yeah good point about the routing. Will check out the ones you mentioned as well. Thanks!
that is cool... how many effects can be used at one time? does it have parallel routing?
Hey bud, you can use 6 effects at the same time (one from every category) and yes, it has parallel routing! Cheers!
And you can switch EFX to MOD and MOD to EFX and CMP between CMP and EFX. So you could also stack up to 3 EFX or 2 MOD with a CMP or EFX. The MOD/EFX Block can be in a parallel chain (also DLY and RVB)
how you compare it to an amplitube or another pc simulator? would it be an improvment or a waste of money? for a home use
Hey Gonzalo! I have Amplitube 5 Max and it's an amazing piece of software. If you have that, I think your good to go for home use. If you're looking for hardware to take out and gig with, the HX Stomp is a very good contender. I jope this helps, cheers!
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar great!!! Dont have to spend money !!!! Thanks you!!!
could this be used with the HX effects and placed in the centre of the signal chain... I could always disable the cab on this and use the HX one instead
Hey bud, definitely! That would be a great combination! Cheers!
Cheers man! 😂
Are the factory patches already volume levelled? How do you actually level the patches?
Compare with joyo gem box III
finally someone mentions what I suspected and couldn't confirm in the manual.
You can move the effects blocks on the MG30.
I wish the Helix and Nux both released an amp modelling/sim platform only (like HX Effects, but HX amps) so they would focus more on the amp models and cabinets then we'll just hook up our favorite pedals. That would be cool to have and these 2 companies are great at amp modeling at their respective price points
Besides we, well I personally aim to have a lighter rig
IKR. Only Mooer did that with their Preamp Live. It sounds very good and even can copy any amp with 4 cable method like kemper or axe. It is discontinued and very faulty unit though, breaks often and Mooer don't provide service. Shame
Nux Amp Academy
The just came out with the Amp Academy. Nux has been listening to their customers 🤘🏾
This or boss gt1 or zoom g5n?
hey man, unfortunately, I haven't played either of them but I've heard the boss gt1 is a pretty good sounding unit for it's price although the zoom g5n seems to have more features. Nowadays everything sounds great, you just have to find your own thing. Sorry for my uneducated response, cheers!
It would be a great upgrade i suppose from my cheap gt1! Hahah
For sure man, and it doesn't cost a lot more than the gt1, I sold my entire board to get a stomp and it wouldn't have covered it. I'm stoked that this thing came up at that time... The HX Stomp is wonderful but for the price, this thing will suffice, for sure!
vs headrush mx5?
If I can get my hands on one, sure, cheers buddy!
hello everyone, total 5 footswitches (including 2 external). My preference is stompbox mode. Can this be done with nux mg30?
1 delay
1 boost (eq or comp)
1 chorus
1 overdrive/distortion
1 reverb
---
5
hey buddy, unfortunately, at the moment that is not possible. You can switch 3 effects on or of and 2 footswitches are dedicated for scrolling through the presets. cheers!
No stomp box mode but a scene mode. You can have 3 scenes per preset with differently toggled pedals. You switch through them with on knob in cycle
@@aptfx bless nux for the firmware update. scene mode is enough for my stompbox mode needs...cheers
Good objective video. Your playing was supurb.
Thanks for stopping by man, I appreciate it!
Don't listen to this man, with an MG30 you can do the same thing as with the Helix, The sound is also very similar, you just have to spend time setting it up
11:52 😂😂
Lmaoo😂😂
:D :D :D True and I hate fuzz.
Double the price too.
the HX Stomp is 2x the price !
Nice intro playing Krenar, but this type of gear is not for me.
Thanks Graeme! Ah, I suspect you love your tube amps and I can't blame you, I've seen your name pop up at the fantastic Paul Straffords' channel and his gear and playing is just immaculate. I would have to agree with you, I wish I could have a Princeton by my side turned to it's sweetspot with some lush reverb but I am a student and I can't afford, nor can I turn up a Princeton lol
I really appreciate you taking your time to watch my video man, it means a lot! cheers!
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar I'm not knocking budget gear. I'm just an old fart with a brain injury who likes things simple. I do have a tube amp, but not an expensive one (Laney Lionheart L5 head & 12"cab) You are correct about Paul, he is a fantastic player.
Gods last name is not damn. Listen to your last video.
We're definitely living in a golden era for guitar gear bud, cheers!
