Shortening the stroke on a hydraulic cylinder.

Only one problem with this method is now when cylinder is retracted the pin bore is going to bottom out against cylinder and the weld on pin hole will destroy the seal and end cap. Your max stroke will be ok but minimum stroke will be shorter now maybe it wont matter if the screen has stops . Ive done it a few times putting the tube stop on inside like your original idea except i just take nut and plug off not the end cap that way dont disturb seals put in sleeve plunger and nut button back up i make my sleeves with a slight interference fit so it doesn't slide up and down the shat.
Think of it as an implement cylinder on a cultivator that uses collars to restrict down stroke ag equipment been doing this for years for depth control. Plus a whole lot faster making sleeves and also when new cylinder is needed simply switch out sleeve to the other cylinder

You are right, although the grizzly is fully closed before the ram will bottom out onto the head of the cylinder. And installing a physical stop internally is quicker and an all around better job in my opinion. But after pleading my case to the customer without success, I agreed to do the modification as they requested 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@alrmachineworks7090 I have an hydraulic thumb that extend too much (probably a bad design by previous owner) and I'm planning to add something like a 1.25 inche long bushing inside to limit the stroke.
