Dave, I’m loving your stroll through Schubert- my personal favorite composer. I’m hoping that you eventually encounter Vladimir Ashkenazy’s recording of the Schubert G major piano sonata, a desert island CD for me. Are you familiar with this particular recording? ❤
Well as hardly anyone else has commented I agree re Uchida. Very very lovely but I’m glad I have brendel as well- the music can sound so different with different hands! All good of course:-) And yes I do like the Bylsma et al Quintet- they were always an interesting group
I generally like fast, even driving, tempos in the Schubert 9th, but Furtwangler is so compelling. His Andante is anything but "con moto" but WF makes it almost frightening (in a good way.) Schubert moving up on the outside, about to overtake DSCH for the lead. 🐎
These videos are making me feel guilty I never got into Schubert. I wonder if you would consider a “Schubert for beginners” list video? I will be very embarrassed if you already did one and I somehow missed it!
@@DavesClassicalGuide how embarrassing! I even watched it a while ago! But I guess I wasn’t motivated at the time. I rewatched it with renewed enthusiasm and created a playlist
As a wind player, I look forward to you hitting the Octet. I have the Boston Chamber players and another that was Lincoln Center and probably another tucked away somewhere.

It's in the Ashkenazy box, not Schubert.

Love love love Uchida 's Schubert.
Speaking of the Schubert Piano Sonatas, could you please do a feature about Wilhelm Kempff sometime, Dave?
His D 960 is incomparable
One of the best Schubert performers.
@@johnanderton4200Really? I must have a listen. It's my favourite Schubert sonata, but I'm obsessed with a live performance by Kocsis on TH-cam 😊

It's already happened at least once, but most of these recordings are not in the Overflow Room.
