  • If Schubert couldn't stop writing great music we shouldn't stop listening to it! More fun and frolic from the Schubert section of the Overflow Room!

Hi - yes, the Leipziger stuff has been boxed, have it here, and it does include the quintet :)

Hi Dave. You mentioned getting rid of some CDs (which seems unbelievable for such a serious collector as you are!). However, what do you do with your rejects - donate them to worthy causes, give them to people you don't like, or just dump them in the trash? (And a Tinnitus video on coasters and door stops would be fascinating...)

For Janacek the Panocha Quartet is my choice (yes, over the Prazak.) Such amazing tone and animation in their playing. And their name is fun to say. So I will get right to their Schubert, whose quartets I'm only spottily familiar with yet.
Good point about Wintereise recordings. Not an easy work for someone still in thrall to Schone Mullerin, as I was in my youth. My first exposure was in the 70s, when Fischer-Dieskau appeared at the San Francisco Opera House for a solo recital. The program wasn't announced ahead of time. I can't think of a less suitable venue for a liederabend. I couldn't make sense of anything after the opening song. Not a single encore. We were sent to bed without supper.

Astonishing that your tam-tam gonging does not scare your cats … maybe they got used to ?

It scares them, but they are getting used to it, gradually.
