  • To celebrate Metra's 40th Anniversary, the agency turned one side of a bi-level gallery car into a museum, exhibiting antique schedules, model trains, tickets, car and locomotive blueprints, and a display of locomotive controls and gauges, among many other items.
On the other side of the car, there was a display of seats that will be in future orders of bi-level cars. Not only will they not be able to switch directions, like present seats, do, but the seat backs will have -- cup holders. Exactly what isn't needed during major events like Lollapalooza and Riot Fest.
The traveling museum visited all the downtown commuter stations on various Saturdays, pulled by a Metra switch engine. July 20 was its last stop, at the Metra Electric Randolph Station. If you couldn't get downtown to see it, enjoy!
