when i was 19, i was with a guy who was super manipulative and took advantage of me in every way he could. i reached my breaking point and went off on him and then blocked him on everything.
a few months go by and he had his sister try to reach me so he can talk to me. i unblock him for a little bit and he calls me saying that he missed me so much, he thought about my every single day and then asked me how i felt about him. i flat out said “i haven’t thought about you at all.”. i remember hearing him painfully exhale and trying to hold back tears. it felt so good.

The difference between the men who don’t realize the harm they cause and the women who go for the jugular everytime they’re upset is that the former may hurt you involuntarily, while the latter hurts you on purpose. You’ve got no reason to believe these men “had it coming”, and even if they did make their partner unhappy, nothing justifies verbal abuse. I mean, fuck, pouring water on someone’s head and telling them to grow? How dehumanizing can you get? James is right. Women cannot conceptualize consequences. If you think these men deserved verbal abuse, then these women certainly deserved retaliation as well. But women are protected both legally and socially from receiving retaliation, so they often don’t understand what it means to go too far. Seems like you don’t understand, either.

I understand the weight of saying something heavy when you have only ever been kind. I kept it short and said three sentences which would shatter all armor. When you're mid argument and something is said (even unintentionally) as a personal attack, you're opening yourself up to this kind of tongue lashing. Is it right? Not really. The mature thing to do would be to interpret what they said with the best intention while letting them know that they _did_ hurt or trigger you. That way you could try to get back to the actual issue or ask to take a break from the conversation until you're both in a more constructive head space. Most of us (men AND women) aren't that mature though. We'll assume the intention was to hurt us so we feel no remorse going for the jugular 😅
(Edit: women are just better at it because practice; we rarely result to physical violence like men, so we've honed these skills 🤣)
