  • Hello, thanks for joining me! My name is Lauren, homeschooling mom of 3. Today I'm sharing my upcoming kindergartners curriculum for the 2021-2022 school year.
I'd love to hear from you what homeschooling resources you use and what has worked for you!

I was torn between Abeka and BJU for K. This will be my first year teaching a kid to read. I wound up choosing BJU. Abeka looks so nice though! :)

I am trying to decide between TGATB or Abeka for ELA (loved Abeka for preschool and pre-k) 🥴 I need to watch a flip thru of TGATB now that you have done this great flip thru of Abeka. Thanks!!

@@thepracticalhomeschooler oh wow ok!! I will check them all out! I know I want to stick with Singapore math for math lessons but I’m really torn for language arts. This feels like such a huge decision bc I’ve not taught a child to read before

Hi, did you buy just the kindergarten abeka Math supplement by itself or do we need the teachers guide and lessons to go with it? I want to try the same thing with my daughter like your doing with yours and see how well she does.

Do you mind telling the story behind the no lesson plan book and now using one?? I, too, had my oldest use Abeka k5 in a private school setting and now I’m teaching my second one K5 myself and I bought the student pack but thought I could just wing it..🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ but now I’m not so sure..any and all suggestions would be wonderful!!! 😄

Sure! So for my middle daughter, I used the good and the beautiful level K and then added the Abeka letters and sounds as a supplement for independent work. I didn’t love how TGTB method of teaching reading was laid out and by mid way through the year I scrapped it and did solely Abeka. I just used the handbook for reading EVERY DAY from then on and the little readers and thats honestly all we did. I winged it too and it was totally fine. She’s a GREAT reader now and it all worked out.
However, doing it over with my youngest, I just prefer a little more structure. I’m also familiar with the layout of the Abeka lesson plans so I know I can cut things out if needed or tweak things here and there to make it work for us. But honestly for kindergarten, if you have the hand book for reading and their readers, you’ll be just fine! You got this 😉

    Happy Mother's Day!
I THINK am going to start the new TGATB Simply Math level 1 after we are done with my daughter's kindergarten Math with Confidence is done. I am torn between switching, or sticking with it since my daughter is loving it. But since we switched to TGATB language arts, she has been obsessed, so I think it honestly should go ok either way, but I thought I'd ask if you have experience with Math with Confidence or know people who have had success with it? I think it is considered fairly new.
Side note - I love the map you have hanging on the wall. Where did you find it?
Second side note. All 5 of you are leftys?! Is that genetic?? It must be... My husband is a lefty, and my almost 3 year old son MAY be but he still switches back and forth, and none of the rest of us are... That is just fascinatingly cool! 😎

I haven’t heard of math with confidence so I couldn’t say, but if it’s working for her and she loves it, no need to switch (you can always print a few lessons of TGTB to see).
The map is from hobby lobby a few years ago.
Yes we’re all lefties. I don’t think it’s 100% genetic but I think genes do play a factor (from what I’ve read).

Do you do the lessons yourself with abeka or use the videos? I am trying to decide now for my oldest who will be kindergarten level.

I’m doing abeka k4 with my daughter and I got the package with the videos and it is a blessing. I needed to see how a teacher teaches and I sit with my daughter too during the video time.
