Dan, Ben, & the Nomads. Saturday nights at the Southernaire Club, Columbus Miss. Good ole boys from Lamar County AL. Best memories from high school days.
One of the great pop songs of all time. This lead singer's inflections are very Clapton on ballads in a good way. He wrote this song way before Clapton went slowhand, so I assume he always sang like that.
So good to see this video...I was around in '65 when it came out ...I learned to play it on electric guitar first and acoustic fingerpicking style later...one of my all time favorites....great lyrics. Anna Ash has just released an excellent cover that was used to close out the last episode of the recent documentary on Charles Manson. Again great song...as it applies to most everyone sometime in their life...
This is the same beautiful version as the original version (B side of the single: Is a bluebird blue) of Dan Penn from 1965. Became no hit. The pop version did in 1966 by Bobby Purify.
Pull the string and I'll wink at you I'll do funny things if you want me to I'm yours to have and hold Darling, you've got full control of your puppet Pull another string and I'll kiss your lips Snap your fingers and I'll turn you some flips Your every wish is my command All you gotta do is wiggle your little hand 'Cause I'm your puppet I'm just a toy, just a funny boy Makes you laugh when you're blue I'll be warm or cold, do just what I'm told I'll do anything for you 'Cause I'm your puppet Just pull them little strings and I'll sing you a song Make me do right or you can make me do wrong Treat me good and I'll do anything I'm just your puppet, you hold my string I'm your walking, talking, living, loving puppet Hangin' on a string, I'll do anything I'll hold you kiss you and I'll love you Put me up, put me down String me up, string me down Yes darling, I'm your puppet 😎
My pick for the greatest Valentine's Day song ever.

For me one of the greatest songs.
A lot of emotion in this song and performance, love it.
Two stone cold greats rights here.

Pull the string and I'll wink at you
I'll do funny things if you want me to
I'm yours to have and hold
Darling, you've got full control of your puppet
Pull another string and I'll kiss your lips
Snap your fingers and I'll turn you some flips
Your every wish is my command
All you gotta do is wiggle your little hand
'Cause I'm your puppet
I'm just a toy, just a funny boy
Makes you laugh when you're blue
I'll be warm or cold, do just what I'm told
I'll do anything for you
'Cause I'm your puppet
Just pull them little strings and I'll sing you a song
Make me do right or you can make me do wrong
Treat me good and I'll do anything
I'm just your puppet, you hold my string
I'm your walking, talking, living, loving puppet
Hangin' on a string, I'll do anything
I'll hold you kiss you and I'll love you
Put me up, put me down
String me up, string me down
Yes darling, I'm your puppet 😎
