Many years ago, I've just migrated to New Zealand to be with my wife who found work at a farm somewhere in Canterbury. Her boss hired me too as a laborer which was great to start with. Pay was good compared to back home but knew I can do so much better if I got back into IT. But then I soon found that none of my current skills had much demand. That's when I decided to self-learn the top 3 most sought-after developer skills I can see on the market.
With a stroke of luck, a local designer found my personal website and called me if I can build his designs into websites for him. It wasn't the full-time job I needed but seized the opportunity anyway and quit the farm. I then had a supply of real-life projects to practice the new skills I was learning on. It was tough but I was determined to get those projects done in the most advanced way possible so they can be used as proof of my skills when applying for jobs.
I had no connections, no decent job references, but with a shiny new portfolio, sheer determination and a bit of luck I was able to make it. This song is inspired by a game soundtrack that became the anthem that kept me going back then called "Blood Rage". It might be cheesy for a non-gamer but with a gamer's imagination, any problem or goal can become a raid boss that's there for defeating with a bit of grinding and skill for glorious rewards.
The images used in this video are based on our real photos, filtered through AI. The street scene was the view outside the room in Christchurch city I was renting as a struggling future software engineer in the middle of his training arc.
