I've been quilting for about 50 years and have never made a log cabin. They just didn't interest me, but yours does. Its beautiful and I'm inspired to sort my scraps into darks and lights in the hope that I can make one as beautiful as yours.
In our sewing circle, I’m know as the scrap lady. One of our ladies is a new quilter, so the lady who is teaching her suggested a log cabin block. Now I’m really inspired to make a scrappy one for me. Thanks!
Amazingly, I have spent the last two days trying to find the bin with ALL of my 2.5" strips in it! I am trying to actually go through all of my stash and come up with a plan that separates cut pieces from yardage from scraps, from fat quarters (and the list goes on). This morning, I turned on this video, and two hours later, I FOUND my 2.5" strips. My plan is coming together and this video has moved into premier spot. I am organizing leader/ender projects for this coming weekend when my daughter will arrive with plans for her second big quilt. She cuts all the pieces and I stitch them all together for the quilt she is envisioning. It is a good plan, so far (at least it gives me a bit of control ... LOL! I just marveled that the video appeared first thing this morning and I found what I needed a bit later in the morning. I do not believe in coincidences.
That’s awesome! 🤩 I’m so happy you found the strips at just the right time! ☀️. It sounds like you’re getting ready for a fun and productive weekend of quilting! ✂️
@@sunbeamfabricart currently, I am separating pieces from yardage. That will take a few days to get through, but in the end, I will have a bunch of pre-cuts to make the weekend leader/ender situation more practical. I wish you and I lived closer together (watching your gifting quilts videos)... I would have you come and check out my bins of accomplished scrap block making ... so many scraps, so little time! That is my current motto ... I just keep my mind on one of the first of your videos I watched - - you had gotten a bit over-whelmed with the amount of scraps you had in that lower drawer - - but, you kept going until you had a beautiful quilt. I get a lot of encouragement from your videos as I work along.
Great use of the scraps and the different size rows. I have a huge crumb quilt that I did QAYG. Each row was a different width. And then I was able to sew together when they were all same length.
Great idea, love how you tackled this. I have lots of scraps waiting to turn into charity quilts and this will help a lot. I have heaps of 2 1/2” squares and strips so thinking cap on. 👏
I wish more people would realize that scrap quilting can be fun and relaxing like this.... I'm in the process of using up my lifetime of fabric collection... thought i would share that i use the "jelly roll race technique a lot... when it's about a twice as wide as long pleasing piece.. it trim and use the MSQC "charms on point" cutting method for getting an interesting quilt top! Love watching you! Hugs, GB
I usually do the darks on the outside, but I really like them on the inside after seeing yours. I will bedoing that next time. My scrap bucket is expanding again. 😮
This is one of my favorite scrap quilts to make. Love how yours turned out! I have one in my car for a car quilt....and it's so nice on frigid days even though I have heated seats.
Watching this made me want to pull down the baskets of scraps and get sorting. I appreciated learning how you created in this in an assembly line fashion. I've made wonky log cabin squares before but usually just make one at a time. Your method looks more efficient. I love watching what other people do with scraps, my favorites.
I absolutely love this. I am mostly into scrap sewing. This is my favorite one you’ve done. It’s so beautiful. I hope you do a video where you complete it. I’d love to see the whole thing. Thank you for sharing.
Such an amazing mind you have, everything just flows. I watched the layer cake WOW and that also turned out so pretty. You are a very gifted lady ! Happy Quilting!
I really enjoy your videos. I have many scraps and am inspired to do this type of quilt for charity. Do you prewash your fabrics beforehand or what is your process to deter bleeding of fabrics?
Thanks! ☀️ I do not prewash fabrics. I always pre-wash finished quilts before I donate. Machine wash cold water, tumble dry low. I haven't had any problems yet. I did have a table runner bleed one time, but it was cheap fabric I got at an estate sale.
I can just imagine being covered with that quilt; discovering something new each time I looked. You've done it yet again, Annette. Thank you very much. I enjoy these!
Scrapsgiving...I like that! You always make the scraps look so pretty together. I have at LEAST 6 boxes of scraps, and they're kind of taking over the sewing room. It seems like they procreate while I'm sleeping!🤣 I've been making a lot of little projects (hot pads, potholders, placemats, shopping bags, etc), but can't seem to stay on top of it. Maybe it's time for another quilt top or ten. LOL
It seems fortuitous that I was taking a break from sorting my scrap strips when your video popped into my feed. I was getting a little burnt out making wonky strip shawls for veterans and seniors. This is a great idea! Thank you so much.😊
~ Annette ☀️
I have made a couple of scrappy and wonky log cabin in the last 2 years. It was fun and relaxing to piece, and the results were remarkable. Your quilt is also amazing. I loved watching.
I love this quilt! I appreciate the pace at which you do your piecing---I think I've developed ADHD in my old age, but you aways manage to hold my attention! Very relaxing and inspiring.
You're very welcome! ☀️ Your comment made me laugh 🤣 because most of the time I have no idea what I'm going to end up with! 🧵✂️ Just keep sewing and something will turn up! 💙
I love your very free way of sewing. Exactly the kind of thing I do. I’m curious about all of your scraps. Are they all from other quilts you have sewn or do you use other sources for your scraps? You always have great fabrics, but you always show emptying your scrap bin (is that really possible, lol). But then a short time later you have another overflowing bin of more great scraps. How do you accumulate so many scraps?
Thank you. ☀️ They are all my own scraps. If you've watched some of my scrap videos, check the date and see how old. The last big project was early 2024 and I used up most making my Scrap Bolt #2. This latest project "Scraps-giving" will probably take me through end of 2025. I'm working on the 4th quilt today. 💛
Thank you. I am currently working on a log cabin. You always have so many scraps? Do you collect them, get them donated? Just curious. My scraps are more crumb like.
You're welcome ! 💙. I haven't processed any scraps since March 2024, so they do tend to accumulate! ☀️. Mine come from the charity quilts I make, lots of them are backing strips trimmed off the edges, and just a variety.
It's 4AM on the West Coast, what are all you people doing up at this hour? ha LOVE the wonky way you made this quilt! I'm on gonna make one, I'm run over with scraps...
☀️ Hey wait, why are YOU up at 4am! 🤣🤣🤣. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I think i would like to make it again with a blue or a green, but will see what happens. Lots of scraps left to work through. 💙💙💙

@sunbeamfabricart I'm in the middle of a hand-stitched kawandi, so I'm plotting my next move. Got up early a/c took a nap after supper, and while doom-scrolling spied this wonderful quilt and watched your video. Love the improv techniques you used to assemble your quilt. I think it's probably very like the way a lot of the random quilts I'm attracted to were made. Probably time to crawl back into bed before another day dawns. I'm retired so I rarely HAVE to be anywhere. My quilt group meets here in my quilt studio once a month for lunch and sewing, 6-7 women show up once a month.
@sunbeamfabricart Did you know there's also a Hamilton, Montana? And they have a quilt shop, too. At Missouri Star Quilting, I think their town is Hamilton?

Sooo cute. Very striking. I have so many scraps to use.
I am glad you like it! ☀️✂️
Very cute. I'm using up flannel scraps. Right now it is one square that is up to 31 X 31. I'll add 3" strips now. It will be a baby quilt.
Hi Elaine! I just love a flannel baby quilt! ☀️💛
Another really pretty quilt.😊
