If nobody defeats Dumbledore then the power dies, which was why he let Snape kill him. Snape never "beats" him because he was willing to die, but unfortunately malfoy earns its allegiance first.

So when, in the video, he says "spoilers..." He's making a joke on how that particular piece of information really doesn't need a spoiler warning as it's common knowledge. The difference though is Harry didn't steal the Elder Wand he stole Draco's actual wand. Grindelwald stole the Elder wand and was most likely dubbed worthy as the Elder wand is sentient and changes allegiance based upon who it deems powerful and worthy.

However, maybe, later on in the series, Newt does something very bad in Dumbledore's eyes, and, so, they get into a fight, where Dumbledore wins and becomes master of the elder wand. Because of this, the wand backfired on Grindelwald, and it was only Grindelwald's skill that made him last so long in the duel. Then, in the cave in the Half-Blood Prince, the potion Dumbledore drinks might have made him drop the elder wand, and since the potion was created by Voldemort, it might have made him the master of the wand. Then, during the battle of the 7 Potters, Harry's wand destroys the wand Voldemort is holding, thus making Harry the master of the elder wand. And that is why it backfired on Voldemort. Just a theory.
I like this theory. I only think that it has one flaw (and this is just my opinion): Newt would never do something that in Dumbledore's eyes is terrible and certainly not terrible enough to lead to a duel between the two.

It seems like out of topic but it isn’t, it’s kind of the same thing. Gandalf addresses this in the lotr trilogy. He says he does not want the ring because it’s just too tempting. Even though he might do some good with it the line between good and evil is sometimes easily overseen and therefore he decides not to use it at all. Harry made the decision to snap the wand because even though he might have good intentions what if someone stole the wand again because of its power? The loop just goes on and on and he ended it wisely.

I personally think all of the plotholes concerning the Elder Wand are just due to Rowling introducing ( and probably even coming up with the idea of them) the hallows during the last book. It was shoe horned in as a plausible way for Harry to defeat Voldemort given the difference in magical talent and ability between them, and thus some plotholes were left as she tried to make it look like all the hallow stuff had been "planned all along".

Basically the Elder Wand is kind of an excuse. Because it's "more sentient" than the other wands it just allies with whoever it thinks is strongest. This means that Rowling can make anyone the master of the Elder Wand, because there is no actual definite rules, rhyme, or reason behind who it allies with and "strongest dueller" or whatever is arbitrary. Theoretically if the Elder Wand really did go by power it totally would ally with Voldemort. However, even then, it doesn't matter, because as we already know from Case Study 1 Grindelwald vs. Dumbledore, just because someone is master of the Elder Wand does not mean they are unbeatable, a contradiction from the folktale it came from. That's why Ben is technically correct when he says that it really doesn't matter whether Voldemort or Harry was the master. The wand is only important because Voldemort thought it was important.
Point A+B: even if Harry let Voldemort kill him, and Voldemort was the master due to horcrux powers, technically Voldemort kills himself making Harry the only master remaining. Already commented on another post, so I'll be brief here; perhaps because there's so little of Voldemort remaining the elder wand only provides him with the percentage of soul amount of its power. Ex: if Voldemort after so many horcruxes is 1% of his original soul, the wand is giving him only 1% of its true power, while giving 100% to Harry.

In the unlikely event you see this, all I can say is that I truly thank both of you. Your videos have helped me through many of worst times, three months ago yesterday my younger cousin died (hunter's disease) and I let it hit me recently. When I started to pull together my dog, a pet that I have had for most of life and who I would normally take comfort in, had to be put to sleep today to stop a slow painful death. Binge watching your videos together with those of a few videos has helped pull me to a stable state as they have often done, and that is one of the greatest things someone can do for anyone.
Aww don't be sad about your dog! You just did something extremely difficult but the most selfless loving thing a person can do. I work in a vet hospital and I see old, sick, suffering pets put down daily, and this may sound weird but it's one of my favourite parts of the job to help a family realise that they're blessed to be able to do this, we can't do it for our loved ones, but we can do it for our pets, we're so incredibly lucky to be able to give them that last amazing gift of a good, respectful, painless death. It should be a good thing. It's so worth it.
I have a dog who is getting older and although he isn't sick or anything it crosses my mind and upsets me. But this makes me feel a lot better about it when the time comes. Lovely supporting words. Love to the both of you.
I feel you. My dog is 70 pounds and 14 years old. A dog that size can't be expected to live older than 10-11, and even that's uncommonly old. It's like the equivalent of a 150 year old person. She's my big miracle. Her vet basically told us at her annual that she's super healthy, strong heart, but she's just so freaking old she could drop dead at any moment. You make the most of moments. I take her outside for long walks still, take photos and videos in the grass and sunlight, give her lots of hugs. You don't want to have any regrets.
I have a theory. What if the master of the elder wand is the one who believes they are. Voldemort notices that he wand is disobeying him and he deep down doesn’t believe that he is the master. Harry has this whole theory and genuinely believes he is the master. Boom.

My explanation has always been that when Harry faced Voldemort the Elder Wand recognised him as master because he was using Draco's wand, the allegiance of which he had previously won. So it's not really a matter of the Elder Wand knowing what happened between Draco and Harry; when the spells collided it simply realised that it was going up against a superior wand that had beaten it before (i.e. Draco disarming Dumbledore), and that's why it subdued. Harry was lucky enough to be holding it, had he used a different wand we might have a completely different outcome

I think we have to trust the books with this one. It's Voldemort to choose the One between the two boys, but I think that if he had chosen someone else (misunderstanding what he had heard of the profecy, for instance) that someone else would have been the One with the power to finish Voldemort.

I believe the lineage broke a long time ago, the idea an owner just died normally meaning it was never passed on has to have happened and if not at the very latest with Grindelwald as he just steals it, that's not really defeating the previous master, except if you class it as a game of hide and seek.

I think the fact that JK says the Elder Wand can choose who it is allied with means that we can't just decide for ourselves. Besides, disarming your opponent is, in a very literal way, defeating them. Everyone conveniently thinks of defeating an opponent as killing them, but this is clearly not the case. Once Draco disarmed Dumbledore, the wand chose to ally with Draco. So Snape killed someone who was no longer master of the Elder Wand. The next person to defeat Draco in a sort of battle was Harry. JK talked once about her American editor questioning her choice to have the Elder Wand change its allegiance in such a simple way as Harry and Draco tussling on the ground, and she said she thought it was kind of beautiful. That the fate of the wizarding world should be decided by a physical fight between two teenage boys. I love your videos, but I think this one makes too many non-canonical assumptions.

Voldemort possesses an infant we KNow from The Philosopher's stone that he(Voldemort) need a host. But in THe goblet of fire, he has some sort of a body. But when Voldemort is about to kill him Dumblebore by some "magical" coincidence shows up just in time to save him. kinda like he was waiting till the last moment. in the chamber of secrets, Aragog says that Hagrid had asked him million times about the creature in the castle (i bet on D's orders). So D knows (he is not stupid he should've figured out that Moaning Myrtle had been killed by the beast) where the Chamber is , but he is waiting for Harry to face Voldemort and make sure he wins (Harry I mean). D hears how Hagrid sends the boys to aragog and he makes sure they get out safely. BY POSEsSING the car. D's eyes are described light blue (just like the car) but when he sees Malfoy senior in Hagrid's hut they(the eyes) have flames in them, just like cars headlights when it rushes to save the boys. when phoenics shows up in the chamber it appers in a flash of fire (just like Dumbledor desappeares in Order of the Phoenix). Phoenix cant teleport, so they must've apparated together. Phoenix knows exactly what to do. when to claw Basilisk's eyes out, when to give Harry the hat, when to give Harry the journal. LIke someone's controlling it . Idk, someone like Dumbledore. I can go on with examples, but im lazy. although, I'd love to see do a video with the proper research

In the book, Grindelwald Stuns Gregorovitch with the Wand before he leaves, so if we count Disarming as vainquishing, Stunning works as well.

I personally think all of the plotholes concerning the Elder Wand are just due to Rowling introducing ( and probably even coming up with the idea of them) the hallows during the last book. It was shoe horned in as a plausible way for Harry to defeat Voldemort given the difference in magical talent and ability between them, and thus some plotholes were left as she tried to make it look like all the hallow stuff had been "planned all along".
The Elder Wand is full of plot holes. If Harry was the master of the Elder Wand after taking it from Draco Malfoy, then wouldn’t Voldemort be its master A: after Voldemort ‘kills’ him, or B: he was the master ever since Malfoy Manner due to the horcrux in Harry’s Scar?
well Voldemort never defeats harry as harry willingly lets himself be hit with the curse and doesn't even die, also the reason that the horcrux would count in nagini is voldemort is acting through it to command her, harry on the other hand is able to suppress Voldemort.

This never was a physical battle as harry did not even consider fighting. He didn't need to and he completely disregarded his life making his death not a defeat but a winning condition as well.
That's why my personal theory is harry became master of the wand the moment voldemort raised it. The wand saw through harry and was like "gg mate. You got this fucker. Your plan only needs a clear intent of dying to protect the lot and getting rid of that ugly thing on your face. Let me blow that up real quick"
Basically the Elder Wand is kind of an excuse. Because it's "more sentient" than the other wands it just allies with whoever it thinks is strongest. This means that Rowling can make anyone the master of the Elder Wand, because there is no actual definite rules, rhyme, or reason behind who it allies with and "strongest dueller" or whatever is arbitrary. Theoretically if the Elder Wand really did go by power it totally would ally with Voldemort. However, even then, it doesn't matter, because as we already know from Case Study 1 Grindelwald vs. Dumbledore, just because someone is master of the Elder Wand does not mean they are unbeatable, a contradiction from the folktale it came from. That's why Ben is technically correct when he says that it really doesn't matter whether Voldemort or Harry was the master. The wand is only important because Voldemort thought it was important.
Point A+B: even if Harry let Voldemort kill him, and Voldemort was the master due to horcrux powers, technically Voldemort kills himself making Harry the only master remaining.
Already commented on another post, so I'll be brief here; perhaps because there's so little of Voldemort remaining the elder wand only provides him with the percentage of soul amount of its power. Ex: if Voldemort after so many horcruxes is 1% of his original soul, the wand is giving him only 1% of its true power, while giving 100% to Harry.

In the unlikely event you see this, all I can say is that I truly thank both of you. Your videos have helped me through many of worst times, three months ago yesterday my younger cousin died (hunter's disease) and I let it hit me recently. When I started to pull together my dog, a pet that I have had for most of life and who I would normally take comfort in, had to be put to sleep today to stop a slow painful death. Binge watching your videos together with those of a few videos has helped pull me to a stable state as they have often done, and that is one of the greatest things someone can do for anyone.

Aww don't be sad about your dog! You just did something extremely difficult but the most selfless loving thing a person can do. I work in a vet hospital and I see old, sick, suffering pets put down daily, and this may sound weird but it's one of my favourite parts of the job to help a family realise that they're blessed to be able to do this, we can't do it for our loved ones, but we can do it for our pets, we're so incredibly lucky to be able to give them that last amazing gift of a good, respectful, painless death. It should be a good thing. It's so worth it.
I have a dog who is getting older and although he isn't sick or anything it crosses my mind and upsets me. But this makes me feel a lot better about it when the time comes. Lovely supporting words. Love to the both of you.
I feel you. My dog is 70 pounds and 14 years old. A dog that size can't be expected to live older than 10-11, and even that's uncommonly old. It's like the equivalent of a 150 year old person. She's my big miracle. Her vet basically told us at her annual that she's super healthy, strong heart, but she's just so freaking old she could drop dead at any moment. You make the most of moments. I take her outside for long walks still, take photos and videos in the grass and sunlight, give her lots of hugs. You don't want to have any regrets.

My explanation has always been that when Harry faced Voldemort the Elder Wand recognised him as master because he was using Draco's wand, the allegiance of which he had previously won. So it's not really a matter of the Elder Wand knowing what happened between Draco and Harry; when the spells collided it simply realised that it was going up against a superior wand that had beaten it before (i.e. Draco disarming Dumbledore), and that's why it subdued. Harry was lucky enough to be holding it, had he used a different wand we might have a completely different outcome

Naginni killing Snape with a part of Voldemort soul inside her made her 101.56% master of the elder wand that is transfered to Neville while Harry when he was killed lost the 0,78% of Moldevort soul so at the time of the duel Harry is not the master of the wand, 101,56% (out of 200% because Naginni killing Snape made two masters) goes to Neville for control over the wand , while Modevort has 0,78% control over the wand because hat is what's left of his soul and the rest being lost because of the rest of Moldevort's soul being already destroyed with the other horcruxes !

I think we have to trust the books with this one. It's Voldemort to choose the One between the two boys, but I think that if he had chosen someone else (misunderstanding what he had heard of the profecy, for instance) that someone else would have been the One with the power to finish Voldemort.

I think the fact that JK says the Elder Wand can choose who it is allied with means that we can't just decide for ourselves. Besides, disarming your opponent is, in a very literal way, defeating them. Everyone conveniently thinks of defeating an opponent as killing them, but this is clearly not the case. Once Draco disarmed Dumbledore, the wand chose to ally with Draco. So Snape killed someone who was no longer master of the Elder Wand. The next person to defeat Draco in a sort of battle was Harry. JK talked once about her American editor questioning her choice to have the Elder Wand change its allegiance in such a simple way as Harry and Draco tussling on the ground, and she said she thought it was kind of beautiful. That the fate of the wizarding world should be decided by a physical fight between two teenage boys. I love your videos, but I think this one makes too many non-canonical assumptions.

So D knows (he is not stupid he should've figured out that Moaning Myrtle had been killed by the beast) where the Chamber is , but he is waiting for Harry to face Voldemort and make sure he wins (Harry I mean). D hears how Hagrid sends the
boys to aragog and he makes sure they get out safely. BY POSEsSING the car. D's eyes are described light blue (just like the car) but when he sees Malfoy senior in Hagrid's hut they(the eyes) have flames in them, just like cars headlights when it rushes to save the boys.
when phoenics shows up in the chamber it appers in a flash of fire (just like Dumbledor desappeares in Order of the Phoenix). Phoenix cant teleport, so they must've apparated together. Phoenix knows exactly what to do. when to claw Basilisk's eyes out, when to give Harry the hat, when to give Harry the journal. LIke someone's controlling it . Idk, someone like Dumbledore. I can go on with examples, but im lazy. although, I'd love to see do a video with the proper research
