Nicely done! You’re right, many folks don’t really understand finishes and their variations. Thank you!

Thanks Evan and nice job. Once the new shop is done, "Mental Strop" could feature a machine/manufacturing/shop process explained at "shallow depth" (basics, no trade secrets, actual machine running, etc.).

These mental strop videos are so helpful!! I know you did one on how G10 is made, maybe for the future you could explain micarta, canvas vs linen vs burlap, and how they make it?

Maybe do an episode about washers vs bearings, and different sizes and materials. 🤷🏻‍♂

I hate that manufacturers have thru ignorance changed the names and meanings of finish. Terms that have been used universally for many years. There is no such thing as a belt satin finish. It is either a belted ground finish or a brush finish. A satin finish is usually long ways down the blade with as you said progressively finer grits. This is not why however it is called a satin finish. It is called such due to the feel. It actually feels like the material satin. Or as My wife says the horses snoug. Very smooth and soft finish. Something no ground or brushed finish can give. (On a side note, a fully mirrored finish is not for looks but rather to seal the surface of the steel to both stop corrosion and and prevent scratches. This was very important before we had Stain Resisting Steels. We now use the cheapest finish there is, the industrial deburring finish has been now applied as a finish although it was never meant to be such. We call it stone washed. It was meant to do nothing more than remove burrs before a real finish was done to the material. I know of no other industry considering it as anything than a cheap deburring process after machining).
Seems the same is happening with blade styles. We have or have had two makers from Aussie. Land that have irounously renamed two very well known designs that have been around for centuries both in Europe and The U.S. . One renamed the spay blade a reverse tanto. Again, no such thing and the design is a couple hundred years old and is exactly that a spey Blade. The other is another Aussie that named his clip point a drop point. and now every dealer out there follows their ignorance like sheep. True it has no swedge or false edge, but the CRK is a clip point and not even similar to a drop point. Apparently both these Aussies were completely ignorant to what was already out there in the World. My mentor developed the drop point many years ago along with the tapered tang and threaded handle bolts, and it is one of the most popular hunting designs out there. His name Was R.W. Loveless. Considered the most influential Knife Designer that ever lived.
