As cute as Lucky is, he's got a lot of baggage that I personally wouldn't want to deal with in a partner. The ending of the movie is cute, but I can only imagine the drama that Justice would have to deal with getting involved with Lucky after the credits rolled.
My interpretation of what's going on with Haywood in the eyes of my 37 year old Gay Hispanic self is that he found he is HIV positive and became bitchy with his lover (who may have exposed him to it) at the salon afterwards but they reconcile by the end of the film. That's what I think his vital phone call was about. 🌈
I thought something similar. I was thinking he found out he had H.I.V as well. The movie was filmed towards the beginning of the HIV epidemic. He picked an argument either the other stylist because he was angry.
This is definitely one of my favorite movies from the 90’s. I literally quote the lines from this movie all the time. “Why don’t you two just go and have your yamps, your sweet water cornbread, your ham-hocks, and whatever else you eat” Gets me every time 😂🤣
I may have commented before on how much I love this movie. I’m watching it right now and I don’t think anyone in this movie realized how traumatized Justice was. She witnessed her boyfriend being unalived and her mother was an alcoholic. She may have had some type of depression & exhaustion from all the unalive-ings around her. Poetic Justice is that film that I can watch repeatedly. Love the 90's tone, the vibe, poems, and fashion. It's became a comfort movie. I kind of question if Lucky and Justice could have been friends rather than more. The way Lucky called her out of her name, wasn't feeling it. I’m not a 90s baby (2000s baby), but this movie is toxique. Justice deserved better than someone who basically gaslighted her into being in a relationship with him. I hollered when you looked up the driving distance from LA to Oakland, Chile. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This movie will never get old to me, I may watch it again tonight!
Thank you for this review! ❤❤❤
Ok lovers in 16 hrs had janet doing her daughter hair and everything 😂
Man Lloyd Avery and his brother were fine asf 😂
But very very tragic story
They were! Lloyd had some beautiful eyes 👁️💚🤎
I just came home from the movies and will watch after I take my exam. How DRASTICALLY perspectives change when you are older and realize what happened and transpired. I was in elementary 🏫 when this came out and looking back, so MUCH dysfunction and more.
They way they both gave Chicago a BOMBASTIC Side eye😂😂😂 20:33
SERIOUSLY 💀
When i tell poetic justice is my FAVORITE movie like i watch it back to back to back and quote the whole thing.
Im 30 y/o
I just NOW got why janet called jessie over. Like right now as you said you never understood it
Maya Angelou always in somebody business making sure they in love 😂
Struggle love the movie they was doing too much arguing 😂
Maya Angelou is a part of the "Old Aunties Board!" She's the one pointing out the "facts" about Iesha.
Finally!!! And I do mean FINALLY 🥰
My favorite Urban Romance starring my favorite Rapper the G.O.A.T. 2pac Shakur and Queen 👑 Janet Jackson.
I had a feeling you would bless us my birthday month with this classic. So in case you don't know my sister you are an Legend don't stop.
I loved Justice and Lucky's encounters and untimately bond they shared, I just wish 2pac could have lived to witness his Hollywood Star ⭐ he so greatly deserves and reflect on his younger days.
Lastly, I still can't believe this classic is 30 years old this year and 2Pac's "Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z." Album
Rest up Makaveli da Don 👑
Rest up Ms. MAYA ANGELOU 🙏
I have no doubt that Tupac would have an Oscar or two by now. He was a talented actor 😢
I forgot my baby Yvette Wilson 🙏 too
This was not romantic. By any means.
I always hear Riley when I hear Regina too. After she voiced the characters for Boondocks those voices are prominent when I see her in movies.
Happy Birthday For the Nostalgia 🥳 🎂
When I was younger, I wanted to be Justice with her iconic braids ponytail and white bandanna and wear her jersey and visor beret cap. This video took me down memory lane.
Thank you!!!
Haywood was told that has H.I.V. you can tell by the melancholy mood
The soundtrack I remember more than the movie . We were introduced to Usher (Yeah Im serious) so pick it up when you get a chance. Also '93 was a big year for both stars as both their albums came out . Other than that this movie is timeless
Definitely a classic film i give it a 8.9 out of 10
This was fun to watch/listen to. Subbed ❤
Welcome back and Happy Birthday month to you! Absolutely loved your analysis! And yes, Tyra Ferrell is that girl!! Such a fashion killer as well! And the mother of Lucky’s kids was definitely pullin em, lol. The shade that was thrown, whew child! Epic! Maybe you can create a sticker for women who ain’t ish (like a skeeza sticker). A lot of maturity and growth was definitely needed for all the main characters. I’m glad that Justice let her guard down some because she definitely was guarded.
Hmmmm, I’mma definitely think about your hint.
I like that!! Definitely making a skeeza counter for the future.
@@forthenostalgia I’m glad you liked it. And I think I figured out your hint. I’ll use the initials (MM).
@@tlfsag88 No, not that one. Good guess though. Another one to add on the list.
@@forthenostalgia Oooh, I think I got it. Starts with a J.
@@tlfsag88 Yep 😊
This is one of my favorite movies and it just clicked for me why she blew in Lucky's face. Too petty 🤣🤣
9:42 the news was from the doctor they talk about how they wanted to say aids in the movie but the studio didn’t want that in the dvd commentary
I never got the Punani part either!!!! Ahhhh thanks
“Brush that WEAK AZZ FADE!”
Being that this was during the AIDS epidemic. I think Haywood got the call that he’s hiv positive. Also his mood shifted so quickly. Could be that. Or his lover passed from it. They couldn’t outright say it but definitely related to the epidemic
I love this movie I’m soo glad you did it☺️☺️and it is definitely one of those movies you watch young and then watch as an adult because you catch more stuff as an adult because you’ve experienced more💯💯
Honestly!
I quote that sexy dex quote like nobody’s business 😂
Wasnt the theory that haywood got a call about his “diagnosis” during that call? Idk if thats true but i saw it alot on tumblr back in the day and it wad the 90s and Janet and a few of the cast also wore the red ribbons on the red carpet
From the looks of it, they took the PCH from Justice's house to Oakland. It adds about 2 hours or so to the trip.
This film is the perfect example of struggle love in the black community.
I’m not a 90s baby (2000s baby), but this movie is toxique. Justice deserved better than someone who basically gaslighted her into being in a relationship with him. He called her a crazy B because she rejected him the first time. He also watched his homeboy put his hands on a woman and did nothing. Ladies this is not the type of man you want to be with 😅 the movie just played it off like this is okay…
You two need to touch grass lol ^^^
Two people with good paying jobs, their own places and gradually came together after their differences is struggle love ?
It’s slightly toxic more than struggle
@@ZYaKnoe249oh his mama house is his own place? Unable to deal with rejection, a child with a crackhead that is the definition of struggle love.
Why was I just saying the opp that you zoomed in on was fine as hell too LMAOOOO and I instantly recognized him as the dude who killed Ricky from Boyz N the Hood. And to find out this man was killed on my 5th birthday is wild asf.
Brushin that weak as fade! Lol The way she did him still cold til this day!
My mom grew up exposing us to Hood movies. I grew up watching this on VHS everyday. I found out Maya Angelou did the poems to this film in High School reading her poems in Class. I love this
Fun fact Coolio does the raps for Khalil
Janet Jackson is so gorgeous especially in this film.
"Ya'll aint got no Old E!?"
One of my top favorite romance films of all time ❤❤❤😍😍🥰🥰. Congratulations on the 30th Anniversary of Poetic Justice.
My fist time watching your reviews. I must say you were excellent. Very proud of you keep up the good work.
I love this movie, John Singleton was very talented in making films. Oh , dude in the salon scene looking like a bootleg Puffy Combs 😂😂
Justice wearing the color black throughout the film symbolized her grief. At the end of the film, she wore white, which symbolized her happiness.
I would have done the dame thing to if i was hungry and smelled food in the distance😂😂😂
Cousin!!!!
@@forthenostalgia hey cousin !!! 🤗💪
Oh my grandma was a Leo. Happy birthday to my fellow fire signs!
Shout to a fellow Leo
This is one of my favorite movies! ❤️💯🍿🎥
Tupac is my Idol and was a huge inspiration to me!🥰I was so young when he passed. But He was so Intelligent and Multi dimensional🫶🏽May he rest in everlasting Peace💗🥹✨
Sis you came back with that HEAT okay 😂😂😂 this used to be my movie!!!
Underrated representation at the time. Even though it was heavily carried by the guys too, not too many ‘grounded’ Black women lead movies at the time. Makes you wonder what it paved the way for…
Great Review of this film, as a fellow Millennial I really appreciate and agree with your final thoughts, Plus all the acting was Superb in every Character and I appreciated you mentioning Maya Campbell, I hope she’s okay too😢RIP Tupac
Loved this one. Can u do: Jumping the broom, For Colored Girls or Best Man sequel
i love this youtube page so much!! your commentary is unmatched forreal
Thank you 😊
I used to wonder how Chicago got back lol
I know the story wasnt about that but i wouldve loved to see how lucky got a junky hookah as a baby mama lol and i JUST got the poonani joke now😅😂
It took years for me to get the joke 🤣🤣
I watch this movie every time I want to see Tupac fine as$!!! This movie is definitely a “hood” classic. It definitely was the personification of a toxic love story.
Happy birthday and love your reviews on my favorite poetic justice
