Fun Fact: The reason the transients change how we perceive how close/far the sound is, is due to the inverse square law! When up close to a sound source, loud transients will be more significantly louder than the sound's decay, and then this reverses as you get farther away. This is why the "close up" feeling is dramatized with headphones, and the "far away" feeling is dramatized with studio monitors. This also happens with compression; soft vocals that are super compressed feel close and intimate because we get the breaths and detail that only would normally come from being very close to someone's voice, and loud super-compressed vocals feel far away since, yknow, they're yelling and it isn't hurting our eardrums 🤓

This is good but it should not be your only one. That only makes you to ignore any other subtleties this producer have not shown or might not even be aware of.
I also love geeking out about compressors and I'm not a fan of one-knob-wonder plugins either, but I have a soft spot for Transient shapers. FL's Transient Processor is the best one I found so far and it's a really quick and easy way to dial in more punch, while offering you more control than some other transient shapers on the market. In the free realm of things though, Transpire and BitterSweet are great.

went back to a project with a transient processor on the instrumental and with the info from this video, I was able to correct the low end frequencies with the expander preset by turning the split frequency knob!
Most people will use the punchy part, but the soft/sweet part for shakers and many other loops works really good in Deep House and similar genres. Very nice video thank you 😊
It might be important to note that, for some uses, following the transient shaper with a clipper or very fast compressor (think limiter) can really help to bring the snap in without having your peak level raise by however many decibels. It works great to maintain the body of the sound but also introduce some extra energy to the onset of the sound, does wonders in kicks, snares, and other percussive drums. Throwing a transient shaper without one could mess with bus processing down the road, or if you're accurately compensating for level changes, really drop the body of the sound

Great video! My fav tranisent plugin is khs transient shaper which resently became free (it used to be payed). I like it because it has a built in hard clipper so you can add punch without it being too peaky and there is also a dip knob which lets you emphasize the transient without increasing it.
@@inthemix yeah do it! also all their main snapins are free now its just over 30 plugins plus the host plugin snapheap v2 that now has crazy modulators is free until mondday june 13th.
What I love about kHs plugins is that they are super lightweight and smooth to run for what any given one does. I could fill a few mixer channels with kHs plugins and still have enough processing headroom to be comfortable.
Increasing the transients also increases the volume, you can see it on the levels. Louder sounds better so it would be a lot easier to hear what is going on if you matched levels.
The main difference between transient processor and compressor is that transient processor affect every transient and not just the ones that hits the treshold.

For mixing and mastering definietly go with the DT990 pro open backed. They really are designed with that in mind and will have a much more useful bass response for it.

Thanks. Transient design can a good tool to subtly automate as a finishing touch on certain tracks, after volume automation. To fine tune how the percussive energy is sitting on certain parts. A scalpel not a hammer....

Good video 👍. The "microdynamics" can make a huge difference especially on some old hardware that has sampled sounds that had the transients reduced due to the bit-depth challenges of the time. My Roland SPD-8 octopad punches up nicely with transient enhancement.

For just mixing drums pretty much any transient designer/shaper works fine, but for mastering there's nothing that beats Newfangled Audio's Punctuate (also available as a module inside of Elevate). You could probably use a tiny bit of a regular transient shaper in mastering, but Punctuate is a completely different beast. It can really re-introduce punch in a mix after it's gone through tons of compression/limiting. It works even better when using Newfangled's Saturate clipper afterwards.
Another brilliant option. The truth is that I didn’t show it because it does look quite complicated / like a lot is going on with the plugin interface. It is however an excellent plugin :)
I actually thought about looking for a free alternative for FL Studio's transient processor before. (It's not fully included in the Producer edition) So this video especially but every video is highly appreciated! Thank you! :D
The guitar things makes sense for electrics, but if you're trying to get accoustic fattened up, I was trying maximus after a video from FL Studio Tips. which is basically a really different approach to multiband compression. but taking the low band and applying a different shape, gave it this in your face feeling with thicker but softer plucks

It looks quite straigh forward, but if your project contains both drums and synths, looks like when you enable main swing, you then have to remove swing for every synth channel you have, so it wouldn't be affected by main swing. Well, maybe there's a better way of doing that which I don't know about?
It is still so difficult to describe what transient processing does. But whatever the case maybe it's a really powerful tool to add to your inventory to bring songs to life.

I try to think of it as a compressor with a pretty slow attack time and a super fast release. Can get a relatively similar sound by doing that
