    Just saw your video and loved it! Excellent build, Randy -- and I really like the use of older parts with so-called "lower-end" components. I do the same, as I have a soft spot for modest yet perfectly functional components and bikes.

      Yes these are the best builds IMHO. Thanks for watching!

    Once more into the dirt with a fun build. Keep it in the wind and stay frosty, as someone once said. Good job Randy.

    Nice build Randy -I admire the way you can build up your bikes with what parts you have - as my builds get more expensive it’s certainly a sobering lesson -thanks

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah cost is a factor but also I'm just so impatient. I'd have a hard time sitting on a build waiting to gather up all the right parts. Thanks!

    At first I thought '49' refers to the size of the frame. Glad to see a 70+ years old frame in good condition and being ridden. That SKID sign by the garage door is hilarious.

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes pretty cool to still be getting use out of something that old. I believe t would have originally been fully dressed with fenders, chainguard, rear rack and a tank with horn. The skid sign is a leftover from the skid contest which was part of the Midwest Bicycle Fest I put on for many years. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I like most of your builds, but this was one of my favorites! I think the digging through the parts boxes is becoming my most entertaining part. 😂

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mark! Sorry to say in another build video I'm working on I didn't film the searching through the parts boxes like I normally do.

    Those brakes look a bit sketchy but Dia-Comp makes good stuff. I thought that I may have needed a similar set for my latest project, placing 700C wheels on a roadie with 27" wheels, but I lucked out.

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the brakes but surprisingly work pretty well. or well enough for me anyway. I've wondered how that rear would hold up using the method I do but I've done it on a couple bikes now and have had no issues. Glad your wheel swap worked out. I've wondered about that.

    Very fine work. Where did you find all of your old parts?

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you. Some parts are from bikes I've come across over the years and stripped of parts and a lot of it is from an annual bike swap meet we have here in Kansas. 20some years of accumulating parts.

    Hey Randy. There is always talk of the risks when widening the rear of the bike for multi speed freewheels.
    I have done it, I have seen it done many times...with no problems. Have you ever had an issue with it yourself ,or have even seen any problems? I do know steel will work harden and maybe crack, but I haven't seen it.
    You are an experienced dude. Just looking for your opinion/experience.

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The risk I was referring to, and should have made clear, is just getting the rear triangle and dropouts all out of whack/alignment or whatever. I don't think there's much risk in compromising the integrity of the metal or welds. Like you I've done it a few times with no issues other than alignment. Thanks for watching!

    What size bolt did you use for brake mount? Thanks and keep on klunkin! 🤙

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rear brake mount?.. I used a piece from a cantilever brake (not sure what that particular piece is called) and it just happened to thread right in to the existing hole/threads on the cross brace/fender mount. IDK if the threads really matched or it kind of just self threaded in. I've used this method on other frames with different fender mount where there is access to the backside of the hole. I just bolted that piece to the fender mount putting a nut on the backside. Hope that helps. Thanks.

    • @Locojoe
      @Locojoe  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah ape hangers don't come to mind when I think of klunkers.
