*Hey! Thanks for checking out the video* 🤙 *will be doing a Cannondale M2000 next week and then a Peugeot mtb fixed gear after that.* *Check the description out* 😎💖 *have a great day!* 🤙
Really like the improvised shifter. Anyone can take an old bike and put on new parts but making your own or repurposing old is fun to watch and a great lesson.
Thanks! It was fun to make, I’ll update it at some point soon and shift it to on the stem I think. I agree! Heaps of fun making things the way you want, especially if it doesn’t cost a whole bunch of $$ 👍
It sure does! Can’t believe no one snatched it up. It was originally listed for $20, no one bought it in a week long auction. Then it was relisted at $10 and I managed to get it, through a friend! 🥳🙌 Thank you! Glad you liked watching 🤙
Haha thanks! I was hoping to hide it in that third triangle of the frame, but it was just too in the way. Stem mounted is nicer to use, too. 😎 thanks for watching!
I love your videos! It's a pleasure to watch your process, and it's SUCH a treat when we get little gems in them like how to cold dimple chainstays! Great stuff :)
Awesome build, great to see old stuff recycled into something different, love the 7 speed hub and coaster brake. I like the fact you raced that was cool. I am looking forward to the next projects.
really nice build and love the paint job. I’ve been prepping a frame for painting over the past month. Was planning an orange+purple combination but wasn’t sure if I would do a fade or some other combo. I like how your fade turned out! I think this is the first time I’ve watched a video of you with city riding, riding on the “wrong” side was actually disorienting for me lol. The klunker bars are my favourite part of the build, stripping the paint on those was a great idea.
Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.
I have a GT Autostream that I have converted to a straight 7 speed and it is a very nice cruiser. The automatic rear derailleur is a solution looking for a problem in my opinion.
you could try looking on Amazon for the handlebar bob I use in to attach my throttle to the right hand side even tho I still had me gear shifters on that side as well and well done in the race and the bike build plus the plastic mold is a new one for me so I'm going to look that up take care brother till next time 😊👍🏾👌
Ohh is it like a little bracket that kicks forward? I’d love it if it can fit the stem! 🤞 Haha glad to show you something new!! Thanks for checking it out 🤙
They fit well, better than old tyres! Tubeless tyres can be tricky, but that’s the tyre itself and not a tyre/rim compatibility issue. I just wouldn’t drop the pressure tooo much, on skinny rims, as they start to handle a bit squirrelly. Clearance sort of depends on the frame but a 2.3 Maxxis DTH can clear quite nicely on a lot of retro mtb’s 🤙
@@toastyrides thanks for the reply, I've just picked up a 94 Diamondback Traverse commuter in really really good original condition , apart from grips nothing actually needs replacing, but going to upgrade tyres, seat, grips and pedals just for that personalized look. Can't go past the cliche tan colors to go with the dark green. Love watching your build videos, I find them quite therapeutic 😆🤙🚲
No they aren’t, these are some Moto bars from Moto1 👍 cost $60. The Vibe bars and Surly Sunrise have a little less backsweep than I like, these have a bit more and at a decent price
@@toastyrides Btw, wanted to mention a long time ago. Because of you, garys.projects & oldshovel i started bringing life in old bikes again. You brought me into a very peaceful hobby. Thanks for that.
Is it still there?!? I’ve tried removing it so many times 🤦♂️ it’s a TH-cam Studio issue that hasn’t been reverted 😖 Here’s a rundown of cost, it might be in the description too as it looks like it’s stored in my notes that way 🤷♂️ Pricing: Bike+shipping $70 Nexus stuff $90 Chainring $20 Chain 10$ Pedals 45$ Tyres 37 (x2) 74$ Bars $60 Cable, pads $20 $380nzd (roughly)
@@toastyrides thanks for the reply mate. I think ive watched all of your videos. it was the GT builds that caught my eye initially...and then that you are a fellow kiwi! Hey can i ask how tall you are? you make some decent sized bikes look really small. no hate, just interested :)

Sorry about the obnoxious music! TH-cam takes a while to adjust the level, have edited it now so hopefully it will be back to music-less soon 😆🫠
@@toastyrides the music over the xc event is still crazy loud haha but it goes after that
@@DavidParker they’re still processing it, almost two days later 🫤 😆
@@toastyrides I can't hear a word of the closing thoughts because of the music, but really nice build!
I don't know what it is, but this has an absolutely perfect frame for a klunker build. Man, I want to find this bike for a klunker build now.

Man, this frame has so much charm. Good pick for a project that I think most people would have passed over. Great job as usual!

Nice close detail shots. I can see you're enjoying the crafting of a video as well as producing cool builds. Keep flying the Kiwi flag!
The giggles in the intro tell it all. Keep it up, friend!
A fun and funky build! It's good to see your imagination at work.
This build is so good I get a tummy ache watching it😮💨

Thanks, glad you like them! 🤙haha cool that you found it useful, happy to show lil tricks like that 👍
Cheers!
Really cool build. Love the purple accent on the back, really sets it off!
Thank you! Yeah it needed a bit of something extra, think the purple came out really good too 🥳🤌 glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing build! I always love a good dad bike turned into something new build
Awesome build, great to see old stuff recycled into something different, love the 7 speed hub and coaster brake. I like the fact you raced that was cool. I am looking forward to the next projects.
Cool project as usual. Really looking forward to that Cannondale!!
Thanks heaps! That should be a nice build too, have most of the parts for it but just waiting on the last few 😎🤙
I like that bike
It's like chopper suicide clutch !! definitely gonna put that my shifter there too !!! Thanks for the idea♥️

Hahaha thank you, glad you liked seeing them 😂🤙
A lovely bike - my kittens approve.😀
Hahaha thanks so much! Glad you and your kitten enjoyed it 😆😆🤌🤌💖
gosh that looks fun! what an awesome creation!
It’s heaps of fun! Haha thank you, stoked to have another klunker-ish bike 🥳🤙
Nice frame bars and pedals , I wish I had some 👍
Dude that putty shifter clamp thing is lolz 😂 Way to think way outside of the box!
Canti brakes. Can’t stop won’t stop. 😁
Cool build.
good video as per usual toasty keep up the good work
Thanks so much, Levi! 🤙🙌
Awredy got klunk vibe as it sits, quite fond of it with the rusty patina.
If you need a really good penetrant in a pinch, 50/50 ATF and Acetone in a dropper bottle or oiler does a FANTASTIC job.
Big fan of the wacky shifter.
Nice build! I’m picking up a windstream tomorrow
So how did your Windstream turn out ? These are GREAT bikes !
Super cool you entered a race on that bike!, it’s the rider not the bike haha. Awesome video great job
Haha thank you! Sure is, can have fun on anything 😆🤙 thanks heaps!!

it's called handle bob adapter you can use it anywhere even on the middle stem
Cross is boss. Also, nice build!
A great watch
The intro ride made me think of Beavis and Butthead =)
Not really a question for this build, but how do you find fitting modern tyres eg Maxxis onto these old narrow rims and also clearance etc?.
