- Victoria 3 has had a plethora of updates, with new flavour. That means that we have all new nations to play. Today, I'm taking you on a Victoria 3 guide on which are the most fun nations in Victoria 3. Victoria 3 most fun nations or Victoria 3 most fun starts is something you have to know to actually enjoy this game because there are several out there that are plain boring or bad.

I think you missed Netherlands: you have a massive subject with lots of resources (which in turn means you have potentially a big market), you have a respectable army and navy (which you can use to subjugate Bolivia), you have claims on Belgium; and if you manage to puppet Hannover, while being a great power you can form the Confederation of th Rhine, which is a super porwerful subject which you can use to gobble up all german states and eventually (with a bit of luck) form the HRE.
On the contrary, Dutch East Indies is way more fun to play than the Dutch themselves, especially once you become free. You have a really interesting scenario of being the smallest minority in the country and trying to stay in power is interesting. Plus you have some interesting political and diplomatic options to pursue. Very fun if you go the native route too.
I still cant get over the fact paradox hasn't fixed the misspelling of Guadalajara triggers me every time i play Mexico
The most fun campaigns in my opinion are the Indies Companies (British or Dutch), as you start recognized, in their market, and can consolidate your territories, then declare your independence and return leadership to the locals, granting massive powerhouses as India and Indonesia respectively.

I'm glad you pointed out Vietnam. Siam is my fav start though. Absolutely 0 buildings. Isolationism. But alot of pops in Indochina. Great for making an Asian Great Power from literally nothing.

Siam is basically just Dai Viet hardmode, no cultural acceptance of Chinese pops and you start with isolationism and fewer resources

My completely, 100%, extremely seriously unbiased pick for the best nation in Vic 3 is Greece you have (almost) 0 resources, small population, very conservative laws and very low literacy. If you want a game where reloading constantly every time you try to return state on the ottomans only for the Russians to not help you despite being allied and in their cu then Greece is the pick for you

Persia and Spain were both also very fun in vic2 as Persia you could've conquer your neighbours with the superior infantry that you had and civilize very fast as spain you could've went the carlist path and reconquer all of south america cool nations
Spain has both silk and dyes at the games start. Silk in Eastern Andalucia and Valencia, and dyes in their small african colony in Cameroon. That last one will need to be expanded though, but that's quite easy in 1.5 since no one else seems that intrested in the area and it only has the lesser of the malaria malus.
I really hope Brazil is a template Paradox uses for journal entry for later DLCs. I always felt engaged while playing them. I especially hope the US gets a journal like them to deal with slavery, Reconstruction, a pretty railroaded Civil War that you can avoid if you're especially skilled, taming of the west and longer struggles with the natives, more events/flavor for geopolitics and American isolationism, the Gilded age, etc, etc. So much potential.
Doing a CSA campaign with Golden Circle ambitions is really fun. Did it in an MP game and had a blast.
Serbia to Yugoslavia is a really fun one, to really delve deep into diplomacy and politics, but think that'll be a lot more fun with 1.7/Sphere of Influence with the changes they talked about. Same for the Boer countries.

i bough the special edition , i have to try it now... i might try something easy to start and understand the basics.
Algeria has some flavor from Voice of the People and can get claims on a lot of North Africa but is still pretty challenging.

Ludi was great to watch while I was still learning EU4, but now it's kinda boring when 90% of the time he just plays the same powerful nations over and over. Another France, Brandenburg or Florence video isn't what I want to watch. Red Hawk's A to Z and Releseables are my favourite EU4 series on youtube, as he plays more obscure and often harder nations. Same goes for Laith when he tries something bizzare.
I'd like to highlight Hawaii and Greece as two other fun nations to play. Hawaii is super small but has very high literacy which helps helps you maintain a larger tech advantage against other small countries such as those in Asia where you can expand. Greece is great if you like being the underdog of Europe and are interested in freeing the Greeks under ottoman oppression and restoring Byzantium.
Korea is a very strong start, also having all the resources they need (alongside a massive population), Only thing they lack imho is flavor
I enjoy Korea. I also like Portugal too, both quite fun nations who can focus on becoming industrial powerhouses due to their small size. Korea with exporting into its overlord China, and Portugal with their limited colonies and exporting into Britain who they start off with defensive pacts and strong standing with (you can get a day 1 alliance or early one, and very early trade deal, (or economic union if that's your cup of tea))

What is annoying about playing in Ethiopia is that for some reason they don’t have any resources at all you have to conquer really far from you to be able to get coal by example

For real. dont build there. Migration is slow and you have all resources in the other states.
Ethiopia is not very good with the 1.5 update because their state regions lack wood or iron or coal, making you naturally on a back foot in terms of building up an economy thanks to the MAPI system. You have decent population, but awful laws and technology as usual.
I like Ethiopia. The unification of Ethiopia is the easiest of all the unifications. But afterwards the game really starts. And then it's a lot like Sokoto.
I haven't played the UK yet, but if I do I will put extra constraints. For instance: Playing the policeman of the world, not starting any wars, but intervening everywhere. That might be fun for a few decades, but maybe not for an entire playthrough.
If you want a challenge, then you should try forming Scandinavia as Norway.

Have to add Portugal to that list. Very fun nation, and due to your colonies in Africa you can punch above your weight later on in the game, especially if you jump on colonising Kenya early / conquering zanzibar and the boer states. Forming the "Portuguese rose map" or Mapa Cor de rossa, is an interesting real world thing they tried to do that you can attempt in game. Effectively they wanted to connect their colonies in Angola and Mozambique and build a railway through what is modern day Zambia and Zimbabwe. Its a bit like Portugals own Cape to Cairo project.

Edit: Dai nam is a good pick but for that region, Cambodia has a slight more flavour, just because once you get recognition the name changes to The Khmer Empire with the prestige of an empire.
I will give my opinion on this.
First, avoid non recognized countries some are cool, but most are just not fun
Second, try to find countries with flavour and play them as they are mostly the most fun, the recommended countries from paradox + some more south america countries should work and if you played all of them you could play divergences mod and other mods that will realease over time

I've had fun playing Argentina and trying to unite South America, unfortunately the British got involved in that campaign and put an end to my hopes and dreams
Sokoto is my favorite challenge, I would love to see you play it and kick the europeans out of Africa
I usually rush colonization and try to conquer Togo (in Ashanti) to secure the sulfur, then colonize in priority the regions where Hausa or Fulbe people live, because you have no penalties from malaria in these states, so colonization is at full speed (many people seem to be unaware of that)

I just started playing Victoria 3 2 weeks ago, and so far I've only played Austria, because it's not overwhelming but also not too difficult.
1875, 14 SoL, and ranks 3rd on the world stage. my best so far

Mexico? Fun? I don't know about that one. I've tried several times in 1.5 to get safety from the US constant attacks.
Hokkaido will never fully colonize though, the eastern islands remain and you end up with a split state all game. Can't wait for that to get fixed.

The communism playstyle works pretty much anywhere it is definitely fun to do as Russia though

Everything in 1.5 is a step in the right direction but over all feels like only shoulda been .7 of the game, lol. The next logical step is to just give us our stacks back. I could talk so much about my disappointments with Vic 3, but ultimately it just stems from feeling like the game had barely any content at release and we're left to wait for it to now be patched and balanced in. At least if they don't give up development, I feel like 1.5 at least shows they CAN improve but there are so many design vision choices of Vic 3 i'll forever be baffled at and the game was rightfully dropped by many not long after release for lack of content / bad implementation etc. So much more I wanna see with the game but its all left me the impression they released unfinished lol
That said, 1.5 has brought me back to game to check out and play again some so it's not all terrible, it's just I still feel like there isn't much 'game' to actually be playing still, just a mostly build queue loop sim lol. The art direction of the game is so cool too, it's a shame we don't get to direct our units over the land and such ourselves and how whacky warfare is, no foreign investment, etc. Oh well.
I did make a fork/benchmark of my USA game in 1867 and confederated Canada at the date of its independence (leaving NFL to GBR and still a dominion), goona see if it's an interesting nation to play lol. Kinda sucks how much the player does need to kind of immerse and RP themselves because of the sheer lack of flavor and content for nations. Lol I do anticipate bankrupting Canada trying to industrialize it though.

If you say this often enough, eventually everyone will be convinced its not fun. You just have to keep posting this exact phrase over and over and over again. Eventually they will realize that when they are enjoying the game, they aren't actually having fun. So keep telling everyone that the game is not fun, I believe in you.

I haven't played Vic3 yet, but it looks interesting from what I can see on youtube. I'll check it out one day. In its current state I don't see as much replayability as EU4 has, but could be fun for just a couple of campaigns.
Victoria 3 isn't fun though, sorry mate vicky2 was just so much better, this disappointment from nu-paradox just aint it
