Awesome!!! I use to do the same thing on the banks of the Connecticut River when I lived in Enfield. I would take the sea glass, pieces of pottery and all my small finds and display them in old mason jars. Looked really cool with my antiques and collectables.
Side note......I absolutely love your videos. Taco Stacks recommended you and I'm glad he did.

When I lived in Hawaii there was places like this and I would walk for hours on my days off. The best times to go is after a rain storm everything gets moved around and washed up. So much fun.

Interesting message in a bottle story- one was found in my village on Long Island- it had been thrown in the 90s by two girls, one of them died in a tragic hiking accident in Sweden I believe a few years later- so our little village pool beach was dedicated to her.

You showed such respect. The Bay is a time capsule of peoples lives. It's strange but on different days it seems select items arise. Some days you find toys, some days china. it revolves around which day the ocean washes away an area that was capped. Maggie and i love the presentation. Thank you so much. Moe

From your other videos, I felt that we were kindred souls... from this video, I know that we are. I’m an assemblage artist and I collect and use the kind of things you were drawn to today in my work. I love the headless figurine! I do use a bucket when I go out looking for treasures, and I do get curious looks from people - surprisingly, a lot of those people actually ask me what I’m doing, and we end up having a nice conversation. Thanks for sharing your day at the beach with us.

Dime savings bank...wow. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. Just outside of Coney Island! I bet my parents banked there!! Mermaid avenue! It’s really throwing me back in memory! I was born in 65 but still just amazing to see it!! I would only ask that if you can instead of just pointing at something and moving on maybe hold it to the camera 😊 would have loved to see the purse!

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I apologize & understand about my pointing & not showing an item. I tried to be cautious about the movement of the camera & had to edit out a lot of bending over/turning because the movement was just too much. (I get motion sickness at times so try to film as smooth as I can, though still working on it). Mermaid Avenue sounds like it would have been a great Street to live on!

Loved going on this adventure with you ❤ Your enthusiasm is catchy and I smiled thru the whole thing . This is not to far from me as I am in Connecticut. . . another bucket list item ! If you are like me and I think you are I would have taken a moment for all the gentle horse souls that have passed thru there and whispered a little prayer for this beach to release the bad (think that's what happened when it exploded) horses bursting thru the purgatory they must have endured to a beautiful beach on the other side of Rainbow Bridge. . . The washed up shoe souls NOW that's a whole other story . . . TFS 👍 Please go back with a little bucket & shovel so much treasure to be had and it's right at your fingertips 💎

There were lots of poor people living there who couldn't afford to move their stuff. There were entire households of stuff that the wicked, powerful city planner just kicked them out. So it wasn't a landfill. Horse bones yes, from the rendering plant was just tossed into the water. Junk collectors have removed most of the intact stuff, like thousands of dolls, etc. I hope there's a documentary or book you can check out!

Dead Horse Bay ...certainly a great name! 😉
I sell under the name mrsdeadhorse on eBay and used to have people send me things from places with “ Dead Horse” in it but never heard of this place.
Really interesting, almost like an archeological dig , there must have an amazing amount of stuff buried there.
I know lots of NYC is built on top of infill, going back to the 1700s even old sailing ships
The spool thing I’m pretty sure is the spool from an old fishing reel.
I thought the headless figurine put me of mind of the Dutch Boy paint character
Glad you took your gloves off, picking up junk wearing gloves made you look like a wimpy amateur! 😃

      Jessica Walsh , thanks no I haven’t.
I googled it and for some reason they combine Deadhorse into one word.

I know people want gloves worn for safety & sanitary reasons, but I just find them super cumbersome to deal with, especially if I am filming too.

I had to look up The Dime Savings Bank. The building is now a national landmark as of 1994. It is still standing. The inside is decorated with Mercury Dimes. This place sound pretty cool. I am so glad you found this little piece of history .

Envision a mosaic birdbath in your yard.... I was practically drooling through the whole video. I love beach combing our Oregon beaches. Dead Horse Bay is a bit far away to be practical, but I’ll bet I’ll be there in my dreams tonight.

Thank you for taking us with you! I love the sound of the water and noise of the birds. Did you pick up a purse and go through it? There may be things stuck in them. Like compactor lipstick tubes. May even your first love ephemera! Thanks again for sharing. Your videos are awesome. I joined late so working my way forward. I may start watching some of at the moment stuff. 🤷
