    I love my Kindle. It has improved my reading habits a thousand percent. I have a 7th generation model and have no real need to get an updated one. As I advance in years my eyes are not as strong as they were and the feature which allows you to expand the text has made reading more pleasant and less on of strain I'd experience with physical books. I was hesitant to buy an e-reader and thought that the novelty would eventually wear off and I'd return to physical books. But I soon found that having a library at your disposal, as opposed to lugging around one book, made it all the more appealing. The storage space is impressive. I'd say that more than half of my current library are freebies I found, mostly public domain books, but some that were surprising. I feel a bit like a traitor for abandoning physical books but reading is reading. Since I bought it about six years ago I don't think that a day has gone by that I have not read to some extent. This is the best thing I've bought in a long time. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Forget those prejudices of physical and digital. If it makes you enthusiastic about reading it is a good thing.

    I have the Nook GW4 and love it, however, I have to give kudos as this is a really well-balanced comparison review. I think the reasons given pros/cons for each device are spot on.

    A web browser might not be so important for fiction, but nonfiction books sometimes include linked references to articles on the web. Actually, even Neal Shusterman's Unwind series included links to articles that he quoted to make his dystopia seem more plausible. A web browser also comes in handy for looking up information on Wikipedia, a feature that Kindle provides and Nook doesn't. For these reasons, I normally consider not having a web browser a deal breaker.

    Actually, I think the glare is something a lot of people will notice. I enjoy my Paperwhite, but I LOVE the sunken screens. They are MUCH easier to read on. For reference, I'm 52--the glare makes a huge difference in how long I can read. I'm also one of those people who take my ereader everywhere, so I appreciate the smaller footprint. In fact, I miss the Kobo mini :)

    The "killer" feature for me is Amazon's WhisperSync. I can send myself a doc (i.e. an ebook), read it on my Kindle, my phone, my iPad, etc., and it all syncs up seamlessly between devices. I hope B&N and other ereaders can keep pushing Amazon to add new features, though. There needs to be a color Kindle ASAP.

    • @FaizAly

      WhisperSync is an amazing feature indeed. And I agree, a color Kindle really needs to happen!

    I was on Nook and now I'm on Kindle Paper White. I miss having the physical page turn button/ridge that the Nook has, which allow me to turn page without having to lift my finger. I especially loved an old model of a non-glow Nook that had raised ridges on both sides for turning pages. I really like the tactile feeling of pushing that raised ridge to turn pages.
    The big turn off of either e-Reader is that it's impossible to see clearly charts, diagrams, etc.

    This Nook actually looks like a great 10-year update for my 2012 Simple Touch. Sharper screen, good frontlight, USB-C, same compact format with page turn buttons. Only problem is B&N won't sell me one in Australia!

    I left Nook after I couldn’t get a new charger for my Nook Color. That imho was the best Nook device. The Nook still has better glare protection and sharper letters for long term reading. The Kindle has many more options for text and feels more bookish to me. It’s much more fluid and I don’t have a lag or refresh issue.
    With all that said, I’ve gone with the best of all worlds and have an iPad mini that has kindle, nook, Apple, and audible apps which is a well rounded reading experience.

    I loved the first gen kindle with the side buttons. They made the mistake of doing away with them. That’s why I’m going with the nook. I also love the smaller size. Much more convenient. I’m just hoping that the nook comes with a screen lock that can disable the touch screen when I’m reading.

    If both screens are 300 ppi that means the paper white has more pixels to fill it’s larger screen. The better contrast on the glow light has nothing to do with 300ppi and screen size.

    I have 5 kindles including paperwhite, each for an specific language I read.
    Found that Amazon Kindle in the USA do not sell many books sold at Kindle Spain or UK.
    But Barnes and Noble does for their Nook.
    It arrived today, it is complicated to set the Nook, too many unwanted samples, could not find the ebook I just bought.
    Kindles are easier and friendlier.
    But if Amazon dosent allow USA residents to shop Kindles outside, I had to get the Nook .

    I have a nook and I don’t hear any noice while using the bottoms. Plus, it is easier to borrow books from the library than the Kindle. Also, since I don’t touch the screen as much, it keeps it cleaner. Finally, I can go to my local Barns and Noble store if I have an issue or concern. I have a Kindle Oasis and it freezes sometimes.

    In terms of the diversity of the library, is B&N better?
    I have a paperwhite and I am finding it really hard to get the book I want. Since I don't live in any of the location where the service is enabled, I can't access kindle unlimited and not all books are available to purchase.
    But I see B&N having a wider range of ebooks ready to purchase.
    Has someone faced the same issue?
    Please help me out

    • @tomenns7978
      @tomenns7978 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but you will need to download the book from Google Play to your computer, connect your Nook e-reader to your computer using a cable, and then move the book from your computer to your Nook e-reader via the Adobe Digital Edition. It is a cumbersome process, but it works. It's called side loading.

    Great comparison! Thanks!
    I have a question. Did you happen to do a “pocket test” offline to see how the new Paperwhite feels in a standard male pair of pants vs either the Nook or previous Kindle 2018 model?
    My wife bought me a refurbished PW 2018 model with 32 Gig for our anniversary/Christmas gift so I’m not in the market now for the new model but the bigger screen worries me a bit. I like the few times I’ve left the house I can stick my kindle in my pocket (even with a case) and it feels fine. Will the 6.8 model do ok in pockets? What about with or without a case on it?
    Thanks!

    • @FaizAly
      @FaizAly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I actually did do a pocket test and found that the new Paperwhite definitely does not fit in a standard male pair of pants, especially with a case on. The Nook and all other Kindles (aside from the Oasis) do fit though it may be uncomfortable.
      If you like the pocket-friendliness, then the PW 2018 is perfect!
