  • Let's go through some absolute basics for how a hydrofoil works so that you can have a better understanding of what the foil is doing under the water, which in turn helps with progression. a hydrofoil is much like a small aeroplane. It comes under the same forces of Thrust, drag, lift, and weight. It also flies the same and moves in a similar way. Knowing that can help visualise how the foil is behaving. at slower speeds, the hydrofoil will fly pitched up with an increased angle of attack. at a fast speed, the foil shape will generate lift. It's a combination of both of those that help the foil fly and helps the rider, understand how to balance/distribute weight. Learning to hydrofoil is fun there are many hydrofoil disciplines. hopefully, this video helps with some hydrofoil basics you can take with you to your next session.

    So cool! I'm probably going to transition into this because of the waves on the lakes around my area.

    I’ve done some thinking about making my own and I think I’m going to try to use a catch surf beater surfboard as the board and drill holes through it and use boogie board leash plugs to connect the board to the base plate. It might be a bit flexible but we will see how it goes

      Stoked you're thinking of making your own Foil. We have a series of videos for how to do it if you're interested. With the connection, you will need significantly more strength as it comes under a lot of load. I'd consider reinforcing the board with more glass, and then using 6mm bolts all the way through. Have fun!

    I just found your channel, I love it. Could this foil work behind a boat. I have a cabin on a lake that has really Inconsistant wind so instead of making a foil for a windsurfer or sailing. Would the foil you are using work for being towed behind a boat

      Glad you found us :) Yeah for sure, this exact size will work well behind a boat

    Great explanation! What size front wing would you consider suitable for a 95 kilo /200lb strapless kite surfer wanting to learn to kite foil?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Hoolie! You could use 800-1200 cm. 800 will handle more speed so easier to lean in stronger wind. But 1200 would be more stable for learning.

    Do you believe a wooden mast would hold up?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can do if you strengthen with Carbon, but check out the last video in the build series where I talk about the reasons why i think its best to use a alloy mast.

    Thanks for replying to me, I am new to You tube for communication. I went onto the website, and I'm curious about a few things, what height of mast do you recommend, also I found the website not accept my address, is it bc I'm from Canada. If so would you ship to the US.
    Last question: Do you use email? If so I'd rather email you if that's cool.merle

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure! You can use the contact form on our website and we can chat via email there. :) We ship everywhere so Canada is no issue. Let me know what error it was and I can sort it out. We are running low on stock.. so maybe that is the issue if there isn't any inventory left.

      @Flukes Kitesurfing maybe, I am the Bermuda triangle when it comes to technology. Ha. Watched all 15 of your darn videos. Well done. And yeah I appreciate your advice, but for me I think I'll try to use the Baltic plywood, bc I can access that much easier Than western cedar in Manitoba. And I want to giver on this so I can tow people around this spring behind the boat. Could I order the Wing plans and simply download them or are they only in paper form.
      Also before I order for people that use a foil for towing behind a boat, what advice can you give me about mast length.

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@merleschmidt5810 haha nice :) yeah, I replied to your comment for ply :) With mast length, id recommends the 67cm if you are only getting 1. But having the 47cm is really good as well for when you have friends that want to try :) Here is a link to the 67cm flukeskitesurfing.com/store/hydrofoil-mast-67cm
