    Never heard them referred to as tongue connectors. We call those bulkhead fittings here in the states.

      Thanks for stopping by the vid mate nice one 👊 I'd say if you're pump is strong enough you can tee off that and use that with your skimmer if not definitely use a separate pump for skimmer plus all depends on your filtration system to , I used a separate pump for mine thanks for your feedback mate appreciate it alot

    When water level in the pond drop, pump will run dry, no?

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the water level needs to be kept at a sustained level for the skimmer to work
      The pump is in the water and won't run dry it's the water level that makes the skimmer work

  • @linklink3757
    @linklink3757 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi just wondering how it's skimming the top of the water if the pump on the floor of the pond is pulling in water ,,it it not just pumping it up through the bottom of the skimmer, sorry if that's a stupid question 😬

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your time to watch the vid link link 👍👍
      Yeah so the way the skimmer works is the pump its connected to has an inlet and an outlet the skimmer box I made up acts like a reservoir it draws the water in from the pump through that slit I made and there for creates surface tension on the pond water and any debris that lands on your pond will go through surface tension and will drop into the skimmer box mine is doing 2 jobs collecting debris plus areating the pond with a nice spitter , it's not a stupid question and if theres anything else I can help you with I'm here to help 💯 thanks 👍👍.

      The pumps sucking the water in from thr skimmer side. So reverse of how your using it for a filter

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@youngstadan4999
      The pond water comes into the box then sieves through the filter media and returns to the pond, filter media is anything placed in a filter that changes the quality of the water flowing through it , specific types can be used to create better water conditions there for keeping the nitrogen cycle going, the skimmer box is 💯 returning filtered water back to the pond, and with regular maintenance is a very effective way to help out your main filtration ,the reverse thing you are talking about don't make sense, thanks for watching the vid 👍👍.

    • @youngstadan4999
      @youngstadan4999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@creativecrambo yea the reverse from thr filter. The pump I'd pushing water into a filter this is drawing water in sucking it in . Was just trying yo make it easy to understand. I've got a huge pond m8 my fish are 20 years old

    Hiya mate I've built a very similar skimmer / same punp working well only concern I've got is if pond level drops and pump then drains the skimmer I would think this would damage the pump! Any thoughts my pond is more a water garden than a koi pond

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya mate 👍 yeah you definitely carnt let the pump run dry your only option is to make sure the water level is at the right height do regular checks and top up the water if need be , if your going away on holiday then just turn off the pump to be on the safe side , I always do regular checks on mine , thanks for watching captain 👍👍👈👌👌.

    • @cujimmi
      @cujimmi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiya thanks for the reply, I was thinking about possibly putting a ball cock valve set at the correct level to top up the pond - but that might be a bit over the top.. Thanks again 👍

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cujimmi that's a great idea but if you do have fish in there water topping up the pond needs to be decloranated you could pass it through a decloranator first then to the float valve set up its definitely doable I think it's a brilliant idea mate and if you do get it set up please let me know and thanks for your feedback much appreciated mate 👍👍👍

    • @cujimmi
      @cujimmi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@creativecrambo thanks mate, I've got another idea I was thinking I might split the income to the pump with a Y valve one side to the skimmer and the other to the main pond, then if the skimmer ran dry the pump would still be drawing water from the main pond.. If you see what I mean.. Do you think that might be worth trying?

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cujimmi another good idea mate but I'd keep it as it is the water dont drop that much only through evaporation or a leak in the pond, its good to do a 10/20% water change anyway then top up to the height you need I do daily checks plus a 10% water change once a week plus cleaning out the skimmer box from all the debris maintenance on the box is something I do to get the best results, so I drain off some pond water then do the top up , I think the key is mate you have to be on the ball with the maintenance that way the pond ticks over brilliantly, I do like it when someone has good ideas mate if you have anymore feel free to let me know you never stop learning, thanks for the feedback aswell 👍👍👍👍.

    Why would you want to see such an ugly box in your pond? Would it not be better to have a simple pipe opening to take the water off to a hidden location? You destroyed the whole meaning of having a nice feature. You media wasn’t tight to the sides of the container anyway, the water will take the easiest route.

    • @creativecrambo
      @creativecrambo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ugly box 🤔, the only thing you see is the lid and once painted up all blends in,
      Filter media didn't fit right 🤔, you best take a second look it was perfect ,
      The box is actually doing 5 jobs for the price of 1 clearing the surface area of the pond plus returning filtered water back to the pond with a spitter there for giving extra oxygen to the pond also circulating the water for you to ,the skimmer box works an absolute dream , helping out the main filtration and resulting in very good water quality, thanks for watching but your comment was a bit harsh.
