My damn washer has had this problem so many times and is only 3 years old I’m so aggravated with it! I swear they design these washers to malfunction on purpose. Ours has the issue with the lid lock too but my husband takes off the panel and cleans the motherboard due to moisture so that can also be an issue but this video is top notch if we ever need to replace the lid lock device. Showing how to check the code is so genius too! I feel like I learned some secret hack no one knows about 😂

Give you about 1 year to replace it again. It’s the cheapest part I’ve ever seen. They expect this lock to work twice each load and to last 10plus years they should all be fired.

Holy Shirt Forkballs! Yesterday after I’m in the garage yelling cussing and throwing things, it’d been acting up off & on for a few months. Now only the annoying dings. Meanwhile my lovely wife of 39 years finds the paperwork when we bought the set 5 years ago, searches Google & TH-cam and finds this video. She gets me to calm down and sit & watch. Before it’s over she’s found the replacement part on Amazon and bought it. Before noon today it’s on our porch. I do everything exactly how you did it to install and Voila! Second load just started.

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. My wife has been complaining about this issue for a while, it was intermittent, but getting worse. After reading some comments, I didnt replace the switch, I took apart and cleaned the contacts. This chinese micro switch is incredibly cheap, be super careful whening cleaning. If it happens again, I will replace the switch . Thank you!

What a pain in the ass to have to replace this part after only 2 yrs and the problem is not replacing it I’m handy it took about 30 min but your replacing the original cheapest pos you ever saw with the exact same cheap pos replacement part. Everyone responsible for making this part approving the install of this part should be fired. And take that stupid 10yr warranty sticker off the lid it covers nothing and def don’t cover any of these cheap ass plastic parts.

Yeah, Maytag is not all what it used to be. Purchased an older analog version many years ago on the used market. Best washer I ever owned/used. Regret getting rid of it. Indeed, that 10 year warranty sticker means absolutely nothing. Don’t believe me? Try making a claim when anything fails on it. In less than 3 years I’ve had to replace the drum gears and magnet etc. and now this locking mechanism. Having said all that, I will say that I do like the onboard diagnostics and the repairs are simple. Now, if only they made a legacy washer and dryer with all these new features… that would be something.
Well, I must say I’m happy with my washer. I’ve had it eight years and this is the first time I’ve had problems with it.
And since it’s a cheap fix, that’s a bonus !
My 2nd time having to replace the lock mechanism. Plus now I have to get a new lid because apparently Maytag has plastic on the lid hinge and my glass will come completely off. I will never get another Maytag.
This is a on going problem. As said it returns even if you replace. Takes a while but it will. If you want to fix your problem. Replace it or unscrew switch, open switch cover and clean the lock slide contacts. You will see that it’s dirty and not making connection. Easy fix takes 10min. Find some dielectric grease after cleaning and coat for a long term fix. Factory put this grease on but very small amount. Once it wears off the connection corrodes.
How do I unscrew the the switch
There two 1/4” screws on the very back panel. One on each side. Remove them, then go to the front of washer and pull the “top” of washer towards you. The top will slide about 1” forward then you lift up. The switch will also have two screws holding it on. Remove. The plastic housing if split in half by using clips.
There should be a recall on these washer.
How can we make them do a recall .
@@lindabennison4167 I agree. It is a constant fight to get this 5 yr old machine going. The interface board has been cleaned and brushed with the clear coat of recommended liquid. It did not last very long before it began to not start again. Is there an answer to this problem?
Very good and informative. Thank you so much but that’s still not the problem. I’m having the problem I’m having is with the washer plugged in and the power is present. I get nothing nothing on display no Tonemen no lights nothing everything is dead and nothing works. So my question is, is there an internal fuse or an internal breaker? That might interrupt the circuit before it gets to the machine

Just Take apart of the lock mechanism. In my case there was some rust on the contactors, cleaned those put it back together now it works great.
This video was extremely helpful totally going to try to repair this myself because I already had a repairman out and he said it was the panel it was must not be working of course if that’s true I would just get a new wash machine but I really think he didn’t really know what he was talking about…my machine seems like it tries to lock than if it can’t I pick up the front of the machine a tiny bit and trip it and then it will work then it starts to fill and agitate and then after like two minutes it’ll stop. I wonder if the lock sensor sensors that it’s no longer locked or something and that’s why it stops. What do you think?

unscrew three screws in the back first all three lineup together they're holding your little place then pull your lid forward. It's on little metal clips and you'll feel it and they can lift it straight up and then you're gonna find two metal clips one on each side one is hard to get to that salon your left facing the washer the one on your right you'll see it but they're metal and you have to pinch those or get somebody else to pinch them, or look for another video that says how to get the bravo XL washer lid off they're pretty detailed

I took 2 screws in the back off ans got the control panel off but the part where you pull the top assembly forward and lift doesn't work with me unless I am needing to pull much harder but it feels like I'm about to break something
I have an OLDER Maytag Bravos. It does not look like this. But it turns on and the lid lock tries to engage 4-5 times, then the start light just starts blinking. Any recommendations???
I have this exact same washer. It does not letting water in at the wash cycle . so I thought it was the water inlet valve. So I replaced it. Ran the diagnostics on it the water started to fill. So I thought we were good to go. So when I started a load the water would not come on. But every time I would do the test diagnostics on it the water would work. Someone said it could be my motherboard. What do you think it may be?

I have one identical to this one on the video. Mine started to turn on by itself and it will start the cicle. All of the lights will come on and on the screen the remaining time will be flashing along with the letters Lt (or at leas the last letter appears to be a lower case t) .

I slammed the lid and got fixed. Maybe the lock mechanism it was just stuck worth a try slammed under your own responsibility.

These washers are total shit!!! Cost a arm and a leg, doesn't allow enough water to even agitate the clothes regardless of which setting its put on. They just sit on the top with no movement period!

Buy a Speedqueen and throw out the Bravo XL. Best move I ever made well worth it.

It’s crazy that everyone that does diy videos NEVER give the part numbers.
My old and new control panel are acting both the same they light up but I can't change any of the button options and the error code I get is F2E1 stuck key, I have power cycled many times, I am confused why with a new control panel it is doing exactly the same thing.
They're BAD to get corrosion on the exposed contacts in the board. Qtip rubbing alcohol and cover with clear coat

Mine will sense and you can see the basket turning it will switch to wash and then it goes back to sensing it does this a few times then shuts off??? No codes or anything if anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it.. it does this on any cycle I set it on and any way I set the water hot or cold and spin cycle it don’t matter . Norm wash to bedding it does the same thing the lid locks washer acts normal but won’t go into wash mode from sensing.
It was the clutch. I changed the clutch Super easy and not to expensive like 125 bucks ..

ALTERNATIVE FIX: I fixed my machine by disassembling the locking mechanism, there are 3 separate locking tabs holding it together. there was gunk from the washer likely shorting a wire somewhere. Clean with rubbing alcohol and dry COMPLETELY, ensure all contact surfaces are clean and free from corrosion sand with fine grit sandpaper or pick to remove corrosion carefully as the contact surfaces are coated. Hope this helps!!!
We have the X model and the lid lock had an issue so we replaced it. Now it still doesn't work and gives E3 F5 just the same as if we did nothing. Sometimes it will go to 34 minutes and the right side of the display is lit but the right side isn't lit but still it just sits there. Will hitting it with a sledge do any good?

How do we bypass with the wire jumping
Mine has no problem like this. Whenever you turn the knob to put it on a wash setting it randomly jumps to any setting. You can fiddle with the knob enough to get it to jump to the right setting but it's annoying. Like you can still go forward and back between two settings, but it'll randomly jump to a setting if you turn any more notches from that. All other buttons work normal. It's just the knob does what it wants.
Will the knob also not turn or any of the other buttons work and make that same beeping noise it did when you tried to press play if it thinks the lid is open?
My washer will turn on but not move from the setting its on & will not turn on. Please help😢
I have power to unit but no power to controls. The motor has continuous humming sound but nothing happens. When I unplug unit then re plug there is probably 2 minutes then the humming starts. I thought it was coming from drain motor so replaced that but problems continue. When listening closely at floor level It sounds as if motor is the issue. Please advise, thanks Bruce

You can lift the entire lid, plus the little white part underneath it up by unscrewing two screws in the back that attach it to the washer and sliding it forward you'll hear it or see it move out there's little clips that just hold it in place then to put it back on you just put it on top of those little clipsand slide back
Mine keeps repeating the rinse cycle. What can it be. Its not off balance and the suspension rods are new?

yes. With power off, ie nothing lit up on machine...
1. 4-5 turns counterclockwise
2. clockwise 1 click, half second pause
3. clockwise 1 click, half second pause
4. clockwise 1 click, half second pause
5. counterclockwise 1 click, half second pause
6. clockwise 1 click
7. all lights should be blinking now - you are in diagnostic mode!
8. turn clockwise till screen reads 02, this is the Automatic Read Mode (there's 9 modes)
9. press start, machine will now quickly test major wash functions
10. beep will note it's done, plus led screen blank, and green light indicating Done. Power off by pressing Power button
11. repeat 1-7, then turn clockwise to 01, the fault code display mode
12. hit start, and turn clockwise one click at a time. each click will give you a code, in order of newest to oldest.
13. go back to CL and press/hold Start for 3 seconds to clear codes.
14. power off

Here this I video I used as reference. I ended up having to use the 2X4 scissor jack method to remove the tub. It was the only way.

@@scottsuhre2514took me about 3-4 weeks to finish between finding videos and getting the parts to making repairs. I also needed to use air wedges and rustoluem for the agitator.
Can you bypass the switch like the older models?
Wish l could. What l did .put tape on the latch.l can.now put more water in it .dont need to close the lid

All you have to do is put the washer into diagnostic mode. Then get to the 000 function to test the lid lock. I appreciate the video but the average DIY people are not going to use an Ohm meter, nor is it needed to test these washers. There are many videos like Ben's Appliance and Junk and he walks through many procedures with this style washers and many others.

@user-cx8xt1sf6l That's good. I have one myself and use it every day. I rebuild washers and dryers and I work at an appliance parts store. Most people don't have a multimeter. To test the lid lock and most other features on a washer, a multimeter is unnecessary. That's why there is a code system built into the machine. On a dryer, you can definitely benefit from a multimeter.

I have opposite problem it's the same brand of dryer that won't start.
I cannot get mine to fill. It senses then goes to wash then back to sensing and eventually goes to done.

Well….for us ladies who like to repair things ourselves, not showing how to remove the top cover and what screws to remove to lift the top with lid…..have to find another TH-camr.
So sorry. I do know my wife was able to figure similar issues without help or a video. I have faith in you, whether you are a woman, or not. Keep in mind, I am a professional appliance repair man and not a professional TH-camr. I try to help as much as I can. Hopefully you find the info you need.
