    One of my favorite, and most underrated bands of all time. They blew me away, and literally had the place rockin on its stilts, the first time I saw them in the mid '70's.Top 3 concerts I've ever seen. 🤘🤘🤘

    My dad's 80th birthday was 8/16. He has been gone since 2003. He loved Rare Earth & was the driving force behind my love of music from The Mills Brothers to Elvis to Rare Earth. I can't hear this band without thinking of my dad. "I just want to celebrate" is another good one by this band.

    Album version of I know I'm Losing You-another Motown cover will blow your socks and headphones off!! They've had many hits in the early 70s then went disco in 76 and faded quickly. I saw them in the early 80s in a local bar and they blew me away playing their old hits with extended long jams!!

  • @remmymafia3889
    @remmymafia3889 ปีที่แล้ว

    You were all over it my man- it was a Smokey Robinson penned song, even though he and his group The Miracles did not record it nor did Smokey as a solo artist. Motown was a music factory. Their staff of writers was off the charts- Dozier, Whitfield and of course Smokey Robinson. The Temptations released this in 1966, and it was a big hit, while this band Rare Earth, also a Motown artist of course, released it in 1970, it to was a big hit. Pete Rivera the drummer, as you pointed out, has an incredible voice- very powerful, and soulful. To sing like that, and drum as he does, is unbelievable. In 1974, in Southern California, the Ontario Motor Speedway hosted an all day/evening concert called Cal Jam I. (there was a second one in 1978). 250k attendees, including me and my buddies, who drove in from Las Vegas. We had to park a mile away- while walking towards the venue, maybe a half mile away, the first act comes on at 9a- Rare Earth, playing this classic. Thanks for the commentary, you're certainly one of the more knowledgeable reactors, keep up the great posts.

    The one white Motown group. Get Ready was originally written for the Motown group The Temptations, but they never released it as a single. Rare Earth, who recorded for a spinoff label owned by Motown, was the group who made it a top 40 hit single. But The Temptations' version of the song is pretty awesome. You oughta give it a listen.

      Also, the first white group to do a release with Motown was Nick & The Jaguars in 1959. They were a surf band that did a one-off deal with Motown to release a record they already had recorded. But the record didn't chart so they ended up not signing with the label. Rare Earth had their own label called Rare Earth Records which was a subsidiary of Motown. (Motown had several subsidiary labels). Debbie Dean was the first white solo artist to sign with Motown's subsidiary label, Gordy Records. In 1961 she released "Don't Let Him Shop Around" in. But the earliest white solo artist that I know of to sign with the actual Motown Label was Connie Haines in 1965. She recorded 14 songs written by Smokey Robinson. She did the first recording of "For Once In My Life" with Motown Records in 1965. (Later covered by Steve Wonder). But Connie's recording was never released until 2015.
