  • A 35 minute drive north of Emerald Isle will take you to Morehead City, North Carolina. The positioning of this town presents a lot of unique opportunities for multi-species fishing later in the summer. Unfortunately the timing of this trip wasn't quite right for me to have the same luck with the species, but I gave it a valiant effort! In this video we landed two new species as well as several small sharks! Be sure to check out the action in the video above!

Great video with a cool variety of species, especially the tiny Gulf Flounder on hook and line!

Thank you! I love catching micro flatfish species! I live in Pa, but I go to New Jersey a bit in the summer and we get some cool flatfish that show up. I’m always trying to get as many species as possible!

I’m not quite familiar with Atlanta Beach. Where is that beach located? If I look into it I would be able to recommend bait and gear for you.

It’s called the Newport River Pier & Ramp. It’s right across the bridge from Morehead City.

There are two setups I used in this video. I started out with the St.Croix Triumph 6’6” Medium Heavy travel rod paired with a Penn Battle III 3000. The line on that real is 17lb fluorocarbon which is not ideal for long distance casting, but works for my purposes. The second setup that was used for the small sharks was a St. Croix Avid Inshore 7’6” Medium Heavy paired with a Penn Spinfisher 4500 with 30lb braided line and a 17lb fluorocarbon leader.
