Some of the armors used in this episode are based off the four divine beasts, the one Shredder armor is based Byakko the White Tiger. Leonardo's armor is based off of Seiryu the Azure Dragon, Raphael's armor is based off Suzaku the Red Phoenix, and Rocksteady's is based off Gembu the Black Tortoise. Often Gembu is depicted as being a tortoise with a snake wrapped around its shell. I can't say anything about the others, the only possibility with Bebop is that his armor turns him into a carp, and there is a Chinese legend where a carp jumps over a waterfall and becomes a dragon.
While part of that falls into the truth since some depictions have Genbu with a serpent for a tail, if you look Rocksteady's armor is has eight heads and multiple tails. Now, all those traits are associated towards the tyrannical dragon Yamato no Orochi (that name rings some bells if you've watched Naruto before) which is described as to having eight heads and eight tails in some descriptions the Orochi is depicted as a serpent hence the technique Metallical Snaker, which manifests into an aggregate of snakes reminiscent to Orochi.
Its weird that they had the figures in the US I had the leo figure as a kid it would have been cool to see anime as well instead of learning about it years later after the playing with toys portion of my life was past
They should bring back the laughing ghost an anime gets created. He could just appear and mess with both the turtles and Shredder because he finds their misery funny to him.
My brother and I had the Leo and Donnie Metal Turtles with the armor beasts when we were kids, good times. They were a cool idea towards the end on the retro playmates toy line.
A TMNT anime series would be cool, but would like to see it like a super sentai series, and Leo would haver to change his blue bandana for Red Because red is always Leader, or maybe Raph can be leader in the toku-anime version

I always wonder how many of these goofy, weird Japanese characters or cameos, have something to do with Japanese history, legend and folklore? I'm sure that laughing ghost will have some kind of cultural relevance.
So... Rocksteady gets Orochimaru as a battle suit, Bebop has Peng, annnd ol' Shredhead gets Byakko the White Tiger. When in the Japan. Also why didn't Shredder get Orochimaru; his super powers were all dragon based so why not keep that concept consistent and give a battle that represents the most terrifyingly powerful Dragon in Japanese mythology? If you don't know your Asian myths and folklore then I suggest you do some research, on the grounds you are literally watching a show about 6 foot tall Asian oriented turtles. Also can we all agree that Akuji (a name I made up literally meaning evil grandpa) needs to get blasted in the face into the next beyond?
i think they were asked to sell some toys its clear they atleast looked at the show and had some idea atleast about the 87 series but just did not have a clear story to tell so what we have is a sort of light anime with plot holes from maybe having to have it done to fast or just bad lazy story telling
