    Hi, I am a water treatment professional in Pennsylvania, and checked out your video. I hope you don't mind me interjecting, but thought maybe some helpful hints that I have accumulated over my 25 years in the business could be helpful. First thing I would do is close the ball valve leading INTO the filter housing. I would then head upstairs and turn on a slop sink, or bath tub (a larger ported faucet) to allow pressure to come off the housing. Head back down to the basement and turn off the OUTLET side to the filter housing. You have now relieved the pressure from the filter housing to the point that it should be very easy to turn the housing loose. I personally stay away from those red relief buttons, because they tend to leak with repeated use, and when THAT happens, you are truly in a bad way. There is a tiny O-ring inside that red button, with a spring, and they wear out. When you've got everything out, cleaned up and filter replaced... open OUTLET valve first from filter, and then ease the water on at the INLET side. What you are doing, essentially, is allowing the air to run out of the filter as you are filling it. You'll hear that air rush to your open faucet (that you have left open upstairs). Thanks for posting the video. It's nice to see home owners taking initiative to maintain their systems. Best Wishes! ---- Scott Fye; Owner Bulldog Water Treatment Solutions, Bellefonte, PA

      I was wondering about the reliability of the pressure relief button. Maybe I'll try your relief method. If that will keep me running without problems. Thanks

    I could be totally wrong here, but I was always taught to never let a filter get very clogged. Once it's very clogged, it's not working correctly and it's often putting a great strain on the system. Changing the filter before it's at the end of its life is the way to go, and that may have been why the installer told you to change it every year. Good luck.

    Awesome! Filter looks like a spool of Kite line! Good tip on the plumber's grease! 😃👍

    I would not use Harvey's faucet and valve grease since it is not NSF rated, Use food grade silicon grease instead.
    Instead of the plastic wrench I ordered a strap wrench from AMZ and it worked a lot better.

    5 micron is over kill. 30 micron would have been ok. If you have sand in the well a strainer would also work before the filter. 5 micron will clog faster.

    May I recommend you use food grade silicone plumber grease, as this is plumbed into your potable water. Don't want to contaminate your water supply

    My filter is impossible to take apart. It’s so TIGHT. Last time I changed it I put silicone grease on the threads as a recommendation. Now I cannot get it off.
    What am I doing wrong?

      Do you have all the water pressure off of the filter? If you have water pressure still in the system it will be impossible to take off.

    • @dogfan4lyfe
      @dogfan4lyfe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      stuntcardriver so you relieve that pressure I need to close the valve then run the water out of the faucet until it’s dry. Then push the top red pressure release button on top? How do I know all of the pressure has been released?

      @@stuntcardriver I used a wrench putting on the first time. Never again. Hand tight doesn't sound right but it works. No more broke wrenches taking it off. They have some videos on getting locked on housings loose. I had to take the whole assembly to a vise and use a 2' cheater. I enjoyed watching your video.

    I noticed after changing mine, water does not run out my upper bathroom faucet and showers but it does elsewhere. I ran these faucets for 10 minutes and nothing came out.

      Check the strainer at the faucet. Might have some dirt clogging the fixture.

    • @Outdoor_Don
      @Outdoor_Don 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      stuntcardriver that’s not it. Hot water is running fine now but cold water is dripping.

    • @stuntcardriver
      @stuntcardriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a shut off valve closed? Either at the fixture or from the source.

    • @Outdoor_Don
      @Outdoor_Don 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      stuntcardriver It’s doing the same thing even when I run it on the bypass so it’s not the whole house filter

    • @stuntcardriver
      @stuntcardriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you could try is working the faucet handle back and forth. If you have pressure on the hot water side, there has to be a valve closed on the cold side close to the fixture. The cold water supplies the water heater so the problem should be after that point.

    What exactly is a water softener and why would you need one if you already have a filter to remove particles?

    • @stuntcardriver
      @stuntcardriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A water softener takes out the minerals in the water that cause in my case calcium build up. Depends on where you live my parents have two water softeners because their iron level is so high they have issues with rust stains. The whole house filter is suppose to trap any big particles that main damage the internals of the water softener. The softener takes out the unwanted minerals that cause stains and build up. Soft water is good for washing and showering. We use hard water for cooking and drinking.

    • @BigBad1989
      @BigBad1989 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stuntcardriver I guess the disconnect that I’m having is that in my thinking, wouldn’t the filter remove those minerals before they would get to the softener. That would make the softener redundant because the filter has already removed those particles?

    • @stuntcardriver
      @stuntcardriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the filter (from what I was told) is for larger particles (sand, dirt, rust) stuff you can see . I was told the whole house filter I have is a very basic particle filter.

      The water softener uses salt and resin beads. There is no filter in the softener.
