Hi Pete, it was the El Capistan you made a video back then. This Video sold me to my first Strymon Pedal. I never forget your beautiful melodic playing. Thank you for that.
You're a badass man, bandaid or not. I love your channel and always learn so much. You're so on point with explaining the gear you review and demonstrate it like a real journeyman musician. Your music examples always sound so inspired while remaining so focused to serve the intent of your videos. I don't know how you do it but thank you Pete.
Loving the Strymon 'mini' series. I have a Timeline - and it's great. But sometimes you just want it small and simple. I also got the Cloudburst and the Ultraviolet. I'm hoping they do a flanger in the same format next up :) I have two boards and Strymon is all over them both (took a long time to afford!) but they are so worth it for the transparency. Front end though is always Thorpy FX. What a combo.
I wanted to hear that intro song keep going. Great writing and use of harmonies with the Brigadier really makes it shine man. I need to revisit my older one.
Pete, I've really enjoyed this pedal. First delay on my board followed by all Strymon, DIG, Flint, El Cap, Blue Sky and Cloudburst. With midi there are endless options. Amazing review!!
I loved the Brigadier but this has some magic. I found the Cloudburst didn’t wow me the way this one did! Here’s to hoping all of Strymon’s next gen pedals are killer!
l have a degree in music from NTSU. Learned from the Metheny/ Mays method. Those who know know. Your comp is light years above the rest. Love the channel.
Great opening piece! Terrific overview, thanks for that! Like it a lot and would consider it for the studio for sure. If I were playing live I'd probably go for the original Brigadier because it has a Tap switch - sorta essential for live stuff, I think. I have the Flint & Big Sky and they both cover my reverb needs and the Deco is cool - the double track '2 tape machines' approach is great and if you widen the gap you can get a very lush, natural sounding chorus and also a nice single 'slapback' which is very usable!
Strymon totally rocks it especially the time based stuff,, such as delays, chorus, Try an El Capistan and be prepared to have your credit card ready. You will not walk out the store without it.
Wow, another great demo of a KILLER sounding pedal! I have the NightSky and it is deep and vast an is also a great pedal from Strymon. Would love to see a review of the NightSky!
Really hope you're keeping time for you to prepare for us your next cd! The last one remains this day one of my favourite of those lasts 3 years. Because you're a wonderful guitarist but an exceptional composer artist .. i will always regret how music evolved, since people prefer not to pay to listen LP and made the choice of mp3 instead of audio pure....i regret because it implies that musicians like you, have to do so much things instead of artistic creations .... Don't forget you're more a musician than an TH-camr, even if i fully respect it and you do it so perfectly! Arnaud, french Thorn lover!
Hey Pete, thanks for the info regarding how you recorded this but in general what’s your rig and routing when you record demos of stereo pedals? Do you use the pedal as a hardware insert in Logic or run the output if the mic pre into the pedal then into your interface?
Guitar into the pedal, output of the pedal into the Hiz ch1/2 inputs of my Apollo interface. Insert amplifier plug-ins on channel one and two in the unison slots in UA console. That’s it!
Pete, Are you running that into the front of your amp, or in the loop? I think you said toward the end that it's simulated as if into the front of your stereo amps. I usually don't like the tone i get when running my delay into the front-end of the amp. The repeats are weird sounding usually.
How would you compare The Brig specifically in regards to warmth and vintage EVH style (and other) sounds vs the Echoplex delay pedal ? Or would you say that one is better for the studio for exploration and the other for the stage board rig? Love to hear your thoughts! Thanks Pete!!
This would be darker than an Echoplex style delay, I think, generally. A complex delay is journaling, a little brighter, a little less “analog” and more tape which is brighter, crunchy
Great demo Pete, thanks! How does this compare with the Suhr Discovery when in 3005 mode? Did Strymon nail the MN3005 emulation or does it come near, but not quite on target perhaps? Give me your honest opinion, because you said about the Suhr that it is the "Best analog delay - ever!"
@@PeteThorn Fair enough. Thanks. I guess I'll have to spend over $1000 to get both a Suhr Discovery AND a Strymon Brig, and compare them myself then... 😅

@@mattgilbert7347 Cloudburst needs discipline not to use the FX all the time or it can sound a but gimmicky. Brig is great for sitting out of the way. I finally bought this pedal and I'm using it with synthesizers, stereo synthesizers. And, although it has stereo input and output, and a Stereo/Stereo selector switch on the back, the delayed signal is NOT stereo. It creates a "stereo effect" when the mod knob is raised, but it's a fake stereo done with a phasing effect. Only the dry signal will get passed through in full stereo, but the delay signal is MONO only. In other words, it doesn't have a dual delay line emulation. In MULTI mode, however, the pedal will have multiple delay lines panned left and right in the stereo field, but it's from the summed-up stereo signal from the input. Again, not a true stereo pedal. I bought this instead of the Boss DM-101 because the DM-101 only has a mono input. The Brig is advertised as being stereo, and it's not really. Buyers beware. My Boss RE-202 is fully stereo, meaning it has 2 separate delay lines (or virtual tape heads in this case) one for each channel. P.S. Small footnote on the Strymon Brig, which sounds really good, it is the first pedal that I've encountered in over 30+ years that runs warm after being on for more than half an hour... strange. It's not hot or anything, it's just not as cold as all my other pedals...
I wish someone would actually do this with real analog bucket brigade chips. Before you can't get them anymore. I find it amusing how "digital is better" but every digital pedal tries to "sound like analog". 😁
Hey Pete, if you were looking for a delay pedal and had to choose between the uafx Orion or the strymon brigg which would you choose? I appreciate your opinion, Thanks.

Pete, that was an amazing solo! At 1:00 it sounds like the BRIG was kicking back each note you were playing in prefect timing. Yeah?
Yes correct!
I just got UA's Starlight Echo Station, and yes, the BRIG sounds great, but... I am really happy with the Starlight, tbh.
I like the tones as much as the look of that red Suhr... which is a lot :)
Brig reminds me of the Catlinbread Echorec.

Eyeing this versus the Suhr discovery and I guess the dm-101. What would be your pick? Price ain’t an issue.
Price no issue, two discovery delays. But that’s gonna run you… 1600 bucks at least? That’s not realistic for most people probably.
