Just put 1500 miles on a 2023 with the 35's. Mostly highway (75 mph) with about 15% winding mountain roads. Averaged 17.5 mpg over the whole trip. On one tank I went 578 miles and filled up when the range meter showed 44 miles remaining. The truck took 30.6 gallons. All being the same it still had a true 99 miles left in the tank, the gauge and the range-o-meter cut to empty and zero around 3 gallons remaining in the tank.
This truck just seems so much more well rounded than the trx. It may not have as much power, but for the intended purpose of offroading, it seems to outperform vastly.
I recently won a huge car crash settlement, i had the cash to buy any truck under $120k I test drove gen 1,2,3 and spoke to a few veteran master technicians who’ve worked on all 3, I went with a used Gen 1 for a few key reasons, #1 being gen 1 has the most robust and durable frame, gen 1 has the highest jump rating still. The suspension is non computer controlled. Gen 1 has less tech to fuss with. And lastly, the 6.2L is one of fords best engines they’ve produced. Extremely reliable, easy to work on. And if you want TRX power a roush supercharger is a oem fit. IF there is a V8 option for gen 3 then i might consider switching Personally i think ford should use the flat plane v8 from the mustange gt350 High rpm is your beat friend in sand/ baja conditions
The ford raptor is definitely a capable and fun off-roader, but due to the obvious prerunner/trophy truck development influence, simple parts end up being really heavy and overall they are difficult to work on (I am speaking from experience)

Outstanding review as always. It gets annoying hearing the usual crowd screaming for a V8. The TRX was fun, but the MPG was so awful I literally couldn’t stop getting gas all the time. This Raptor is hands down better IMO. I now have the Gen3. Love it.
0:46 - BFGoodrich, not "Goodyears." 1:12 - You could NEVER get a RAPTOR with a 6.5' ("longer") bed. All RAPTORs have 5.5' beds. Until RAM completes Baja with a stock unit, the TRX is still an off-road joke.
Just bought a Raptor, getting it in a few days. I’ve been on TH-cam checking out videos this one was great! I believe the Raptor is the best all around vehicle hands down, even over the R for those that drive them daily or even nearly daily and or take road trips. The R is wild and I’d love to have one but honestly wouldn’t want to daily it often or take it on road trips. It’s huge cost would make me want to baby it and it’s lower than snake belly MPG would keep me from driving distance often. The TRX is the same with the MPG but it’s price point is near the same as a 3.5 Raptor. The deciding factor for me was first looks and secondly I have over a half dozen Fords and only 2 older Dodges so I’m used to the Fords controls and functions, really though it was the looks. Someone who actually uses one of these vehicles for what they are made for. Most people see a high speed desert runner and put them in 4 low and take them rock crawling or go 2 mph over a tiny rock
I dislike my dad cuz he left, but i understand he trys to be a father in his own way even though he isn't the best. But still I wish one day I can take him to the dealership as a surprise and hand him the keys to one of those trucks saying happy fathers day or happy birthday.
I am on my 2nd Gen2 Raptor coming from V8 GM trucks….I specifically bought the raptor b/c of the HO 3.5 ecoboost. Has a forged crank & rods shared w/ Ford GT- in fact much of the engine is shared w/ that supercar, I don’t doubt that 5.2 SC’d V8 will sound/perform decent….but ever notice Ford has REALLY stepped away from V8 engines? They literally don’t have ONE in their luxury Lincoln lineup….compare that to Cadillac, Mercedes, BMW etc. they sell way more EB F150s than 5.0s, there’s a reason Ford doesn’t employ their V8 very often anymore, & it ain’t b/c they think it’s super reliable & efficient lol!!! These Gen3 Raptors are dynoing w/ more TQ to the rear wheels than they’re rated @ the crank!!!! Stock trucks running 91 octane have hit 520 TQ to the rear wheels. A tune alone can bump power to 550/650TQ (at the motor) the thing is like a 4wd GTR on 37”s lol
I have a 2015 Ford Escape that I am madly in love with but I know it’s not going to last forever this is definitely on the list of possible choices for my next car.
Ok for a second I didn’t believe him when he said the seat were comfortable because I know a lot of people moved away from ford because of they’re uncomfortable seats.
People really think you need a supercharged V8 off-road! No! Naturally apirated V6 engines and V8 engines are perfectly fine, and Ford NAILED it with this twin turbo V6 giving it that extra boost! The TRX is badass and I would buy it, but not to take it off-road.

actually Baja mode is even better than sport cause it keeps the turbos spooled up and in boost

The extended cab gen 2 and gen 1st didn’t have a longer bed. Same bed size.
