To show consumers what Trump’s tariffs are costing them, the retailers should show the amount of tariffs added to the consumer’s purchase as a separate line item, the same way they show how much tax we pay for each purchase.
That way, every time they look at their bill, they will be reminded of what Trump has done to increase their cost of living and his contribution to inflation.
Of course, Trump will say that the higher cost is all Biden’s fault and has nothing to do with his tariffs.

We need to get off of this really bad consumer merry go around we ride on and use those resources for other things that would benefit humankind more. Yes, that may mean we need a new economy system as well that doesn't solely rely on endless consumption.

If people will stop buying things that they don’t need then the prices will start dropping. It’s a two way street. You don’t sell it at a price I can afford I don’t buy it. I was a cost accountant in the auto parts industry. The differential in labor rates make this impossible. China charges about $4 to $5 an hour for labor. Mexico $5 to $7. In the US, skilled machinists, welders, assemblers, etc are well over $40 an hour when you include benefits. You can add a 100% tariff and it would still be cheaper to make things in China or Mexico. Sadly, we couldn't compete against this. My shop was closed, the workers laid off, and production was shifted overseas. Customers have shown they are unwilling to pay $70,000 for a Jeep or pickup.

I disagreed with the move, knowing machining couldn't be learned on the fly as the bosses thought. Our rejection rate on parts was 2 to 3%. When they moved the operations to Mexico the rejection rate jumped to 67%. Because much of the material was billet aluminum the parts couldn't be "fixed" once they were machined incorrectly. The bosses couldn't admit they made a mistake.
