As far as Tai Chi goes, I have no idea what its like other than it looking very smooth. But for your Xing Yi Quan video, I'm not hating on it at all, its just wrong in many ways and I want to point that out. I just don't want people to learn the wrong things. I started studying Yang style Tai Chi a couple months ago, and I lucked out with my teacher... we go through the meditative form, then afterward, he'll walk me through the fighting application of each step of the form. I really enjoy both. I'm looking forward to progressing enough to start with the sword form!
    On a side note, one of my best friends has been studying karate for decades, and I said I bet I could push him down... he said no way. My teacher taught me the method to push down to break their plane (shoulder and hip), then push out to get them off their feet... worked like a charm!

      It's almost always wannabe martial artist who make these comments about how ineffective something is in a real-life situation. My guess is, it's those type of people who probably watched videos or read books and assumed you didn't need years of practice in that specific style and assumed it would be effective. After losing multiple fights, they assume all martial arts are garbage and no one style is effective in the slightest. I see it happen so many times. I've spent years practicing my styles, so I know it takes a lot of work to make my movements effective and fluid while in any fight situation.

      @DanaWhiteOfficial 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Davoda 1 technically, it is a martial art. There are many internal martial arts that are popular or originate in China. They’re called neijia, and they’re usually for self defense and/or meditation and health benefits. They’re all based around qi (or chi), which in simple terms, is the flow of energy. However, Tai Chi and other qi-related martial art matches are sometimes full contact with strikes and takedowns. This video was advertised as such

    • @Davoda2
      @Davoda2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanaWhiteOfficial Tai Chi is not something that teaches you how to fight, therefore it cannot be called a matrial art, that literally means war art.
      You could say the origin comes from there, but as in a great many things, where it comes from has little to do with what is now.
      Example:
      Modern so called "ninjutsu", is mainly made up, even tho the term is real, it had nothing to do what people think today.

    • @DanaWhiteOfficial

      Davoda 1 not sure where you get your information, I’ve never seen that definition of martial arts presented as fact. a majority of martial arts are based around self defense and spiritual betterment. the ones you see in mainstream media are competitive martial arts, in which they are fighting. you’re pretty much saying that a martial art can only be a combat sport in which competition takes place. that doesn’t seem like a very sound argument

    • @Davoda2
      @Davoda2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanaWhiteOfficial martial arts, a.k.a. arts of Mars (Roman god of war) were created to make a system for people to fight. So anything that is a system to teach people how to fight is a martial art. Kung-Fu (and the million+1 versoins of it), Karate (and the million+1 versoins of it), and not just something that is from Asia. Kravmaga (well yes technically it is asian as well) was created for the Izraeli Armed Forces, how to use a firearm, or all the European ones. They were all created, so that you can fight.
      And spirituality and sports have nothing to do with it. And yes, a martial art can be a sport, but that is not why it was created. You can use a weapon as paper weight, but that doesn't mean that it was made to do that.
      You can call a car a ship, but it won't make it float. (not will it be a number)

    Practice one way and execute in another? Gotcha! Sounds simple enough!
    The "graceful" way you practice isn't for show, it's so you remain loose and relaxed. You flow around your opponent's attacks, you NEVER directly oppose them with stiff blocks. I can't even call this "Tai Chi 101," cause it's even more basic and simple than even that!

    I'm trying to put my finger on what's wrong with this video. The form looks reasonably accurate but something is missing. There's no root or internal movement. It's like someone who practices hard style kung fu learnt tai chi in a short space of time or from videos. Please see Fu Qing Quan or Chen Xiao Wang for comparison.

    I don't understand why there are so many bad comments here. At the end of the day, martial arts is like learning a style of dancing properly. Yes it's choreographed. Just like learning to dance, salsa for example. When you learn, you learn choreographed dancing with everyone in class. It takes a very long time to keep going over the same steps / moves over and over..Then you learn more steps / moves in different combinations. Then after a long period of time, when you are out in a social environment, you begin to put different steps together depending on the music, rhythm etc. Same as martial arts, you have to learn choreographed moves all the time and then after a long period of time, if you're put in a threatening situation. You won't use everything you've learned. But depending on the attack etc, you will know what to do and where to strike in order to put them down.

    Just to demonstrate what I've said below, have a look at this video, I've just spotted.For some reason I couldn't copy / paste it. However look up, Taichi in a real fight, the best one by jianfei lu. I don't know that teacher, so I have no vested interests. However he has that internal stillness and calm demeanour. In 5.25 and again 6.04 he shows 'ward off' or a variation of it, the point being the waist and shoulders are in line. So it is in Mandarin, however you don't need to know the language to see how effective Tai Chi can be without the razzmatazz. Also shortly after 6.04 you see what real Fajing or internal Tai chi power is. It doesn't rely on external body mechanics, but on years of cultivating 'ch'i' 'qi' or the life force, that ignorant scientists still say doesn't exist but is ably demonstrated here. I've experienced it myself, so this is not 'acting' on the part of students!May All Beings be Peaceful

    I have always wondered, why people without experience make videos like this. I used to be kung-fu champion in my country and have some achievements outside my country too, but I don’t feel like a master who is good enough to make videos to guide people. You have to have a big ego to think, that with this skills you can teach people.This so called tai chi, is not tai chi at all. His movements are so like a robot. His weight balance is so high, even young tai chi students are way better.
    Do you know that part of kung fu is to fully have control over your body. This means that the young students first have to achieve some level of flexibility, stamina and basic techniques . This takes 1-2 years and after that you are ready to learn. You can’t just jump with your robot body to learn kung fu, you have to prepare yourself first. That’s the way to become a master, not just another white guy expert in everything. I can only imagine how the Chinese are laughing when watching this video. Nothing personal, but you are misleading the young enthusiast, this what you do is not kung-fu.

    tai chi is based on a philosophy that you do not have to train using quick twitch type movements, the slower fluid controlled movements are actually very difficult, for you people who need a analogy cause your to slow to get that, do ten push ups and then do ten push ups as slowly as possible... the latter is way more difficult, before you knock something that you have no idea about do yourself a favor and get educated, instead of making fun of a fighting system centuries old and respected greatly among martial art's practitioners, it's crazy how many people do not understand martial arts at all, and with the introduction of mma people believe that traditional styles can not be effective even though mma fighters practice these martial arts individually, if you watch a mma fight you will hear all the time he is a black belt in this or that, because of the rules and the octagon it obviously favors certain styles, there are levels, mma guys like to fight, most martial arts are meant for internal peace, constant practice and physical achievement help build a strong mind and the goal would be to hopefully not be put in a situation to have to use your skill which could be potentially fatal.

      Well, the inner/outer business I'm not so sure about... but I *do* know the form, and this guy's right. Tai Chi's beauty and strength is in full-body motions, in how it uses circular motion to bring the waist, legs, and arms together to concentrate force. Watch again and look at the OP as he does things--he's not moving his body all together. Maybe he moves the waist but not the legs, or maybe he holds his elbow too high on a hook, ensuring that he can't bring his body to bear, whatever the case, he has bad form. As in... learned by watching movies bad.
      He still knows the basics of "where my arms and legs go," but he doesn't quite get how to hold them, and how they're supposed to function together. His balance is a little off too. Heck, he could at least teach his students better posture. Some of the bends and stretches of the form can be pretty hard on your back if it's curved like that.

    • @rideforever
      @rideforever 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, look how he stands at 2:19 as he is talking, with his legs so wide and his knees locked. It's appalling. He is totally unstable and vulnerable, and ungrounded.
      But he's just standing there talking, he doesn't have the instinct to notice.
      No martial arts teaching worth his salt would do that. Your body should always be in a strong and coherent position.
      Or 5.45, look at his legs, splayed open, the right foot isn't even flat.
      Even 5.52 when he is simply standing; look at his legs. He has no "stance". No grounding.
      7.05 during this turning movement his back is too arched and he has no contact with the ground.
      I think this man works hard and has done some serious studying ... but it is my feeling that he is too much in the head. Too aggressive and too much trying to impress people and make a business of it.
      And the basics are not good. He does not feel his body properly. And his body does not feel the ground.

    • @raherql
      @raherql 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      rideforever
      Well, and his profile advertises more than just Tai Chi too... I don't know anything about Kung Fu (other than the most basic bits of Qigong which anybody picks up while learning Tai Chi), but maybe the odd stances and off-balance looking things are from that instead?
      Whatever it is, my teacher would've had a lot of these problems corrected right away. Most of them aren't too tricky or complex, just things that open up weaknesses in the martial applications, or that make it so ten years down the road you wake up and your back has a nice, semi-permanent ache.
      ...Plus, Tai Chi philosophy for fighting isn't quite so nice and pretty as OP's vid shows... It's more like "break the arm, kick opponent in the crotch, shove him over and step on his neck." That punch-counter-punch business is almost patently out of the question. If somebody's punching me I'm much more liable to try and break part of them, or to at the very least shove them off balance and do nasty things to them.
      It's not supposed to be about "explosive power." The power in Tai Chi doesn't just explode... the whole point of heavier strikes like the one he's advertising is that you're using *all* of your body's motion at once and focusing it on the point of your strike. Not generating it in an instant. Not exploding.

    It's a shame how you ignore basic tai chi principles yet have set yourself up as an instructor.

    Sifu Jake,
    With all due respect, we come from the same lineage and both have left it. I can tell you with 100% confidence that this is not what is meant by taiji (grand ultimate) boxing. Your first premises are good. You look fantastic physically. But the moves and applications are missing the Grand Ultimate part. There is nothing here to offer that isn't in basic karate and it's less advanced than hug gar.
    You seem like a swell guy... but seriously, this is not right. I'm sorry to say to you my friend, as I am not usually into saying this... but I want to awaken your eyes. This is not the taijiquan. It is moves and applications, for sure. You're right: most people teaching do not teach even these things... that does not make it OK to show this sophomoric taiji.
    I am certain you mean well, my friend. Seek the Jade Pivot. It's all in the classics.

      TheShadowlin I completely agree. This does not follow the taijiquan classics. The body must be rooted, not double weighted, the feet, waist, and hands all work together in unison, the waist is the banner for the arms, and there should be no stiffness in movement and no breaks in form. There are moves derived from taiji like pull the sparrow but they are done with far too much force and not tendon power built from proper internal exercises.
      I believe if jake is truly passionate about the martial arts and teaching taijiquan he needs to realize that all of these people questioning his form should be a wake up call. He needs a Teacher with a good lineage.

      It makes me sick to see Fake Jake Mace teaching fake kung fu and lying and mis representing himself. Hes got so many people duped and he may be a nice guy and I'm sure that he is but there are so many people that are experts in the field of Kung Fu that are claiming his teachings are false. I'm a martial arts instructor but I don't make false claims about what I teach and I don't go around telling people I'm a Kungfu expert because I'm not. I would never try to misrepresent myself to my students or other people. If I was studying another martial art and I was new at it Regarless of my martial arts background i wouldn't go around telling people that I'm an expert at something new that I'm just learning. If you lie to people and are not honest about what you do then eventually the truth will come out and the lying will be exposed.
