Why you schold use low kicks: 1. Momentum and Power 2. Closes the distance 3. Creates distance 4. Less predictable 5. More reach for the cross 6. Gets you in and out 7. Creates angles
Not just low kicks normal low kicks are just a basic weapon I can push out fast or fake into another attack what you have listed are all the traits of specifically the double step low kick
I watched it, and I'm genuinely grateful for your exceptional support. Your willingness to address our questions post-purchase is truly unparalleled. Thank you for being so helpful!
Always fun to watch your videos. I like this kick and your breakdown. I like to do a fast step to chase them if they run a lot but sometimes, I get jammed up if they stop running so this seems like the perfect kick to help with that. Thanks so much ~ London
The speed you deliver this at really adds to the success. Look at the majority of the opponents posture/hands/balance in the moment just before the kick connects...That is the real genius, the kick is just the frosting on top of everything before it. I like the overcommitted cross and like to see you go bold with it. There is an overbalance but it is calculated and the double step corrects it naturally and nicely. You also bring your head movement skillset along with that giant cross. Usually, you are getting your head into a potentially defensive position before they even think of countering. It is really effective against the taller/heavier opponent too. #7 is really well done. The footage clearly illustrates the teaching point well. Excellent job and much appreciated as always. Well worth the bad Wifi battle I had to watch this 😂
Yes you hit the points 💯! Are you sure you are not a striker ? Haha. Yes, I used to throw the cross to land the low kick but now I throw the double step low kick SO that I can throw the cross the way I throw it!
How do you cope with lowkick checks without protections? The bone under the knee is so much harder than the kicking calf bone, one can easily be injuried by a correct check of the opponent...
unfortunately, its just part of the sport, we've seen how many shin breaks nowadays? You can reduce the chances by setting up your low kicks as much as you can
Jeff’s videos are super informative with really effective techniques but thing it’s really hard to implement after learning and practicing the “traditional “ way of doing things but definitely working on it
Definitely gotta utilize this for sparring, getting offline with the double makes sense to land more low kicks , and being south paw my right leg gets action a lot , thank you 🙏
I had my successful black belt test yesterday. After 12000 reps in the last 3 years from your older low kick tutorial. It landed smooth as butter on the inside of the thight of my training partner. (Unfortunately i scratched his groin with the kick😅) thanks a lot for your great tutorials!!! I improved a lot!
I literally have to slow down the double step kick, it’s so new and strange to look at but the angles cut and in and out game you gain from it is insane
Another pro from this kick: Opponents rarely see it coming, it reminds me of how the angle creation in this is kick is the Stephen Thompson roundhouse on Dan Stittgen when Wonderboy had his UFC debut.
Only downfall would be fighting someone with a good side-kick, or teep kick. Something I noticed.. not one person seemed to utilize the side kick, or teep. You'd be running right into it but overall amazing strategy, and really like the Soccer ball analogy.
very good video! Keep it up. if you could make a video showing different types of exeting counters that would be great and very helpful. I like these counters when I spar and they are usually very effective👍
Hey, Jeff. I think you should look at fights from this new anime that came out called Garouden. It's an anime adaptation of a 40 year old Japanese novel, and the MMA in the show is great. They got real fighters like Tekeru to do the mocap for it
I have been practicing this technique intermittently. I land it sometimes in sparring but feels awkward to me still. I need more hours to get this in tune as a habit. I will seriously practice it this time(I said the same thing a long while back 😅 ).
Not going to say i invented this, but i sorta learned naturally to throw step kicks, i think i got the idea from street fighter or tekken, i mainly liked it for the better range and the step makes it easier to throw a back leg kick while having to push less off the ground compared to a stationary kick (i think), so this is cool to see :)
you are an amazing technician Chan. I share very similar philosophy as you. no traditional boundaries.. my question is if you could transition a high kick instead of low kick which you are performing amazingly.
Hi Jeff, I’m having difficulties getting in punching range when I spar, mostly because I’m afraid to take a shot, do you have any tips with overcoming fear and getting in range? If you made a video on it I would really appreciate it, thanks!
I would say more sparring and drilling to train the eyes and getting over that fear. It’s normal to flinch . Also try taking your head off centerline when punching
Hey Jeff, I have been wondering for a while, what is the reason calf kicks are super useful in MMA but you don't really see them as much in kickboxing or Muay Thai. It makes sense that the stance makes it easier to check but in those sports I also notice people choosing the thigh kick specifically when they kick the legs. What is the reason for this?
its because the stance is wider and weight evenly shifted to both legs if not more on lead leg. But in Muay Thai/kickboxing, they stand taller and weight on rear leg making it super easy to check calf kicks
If you're using this on a southpaw fighter, would you use this set up to go for a body kick or would you still do a low kick towards the inside lead leg or reach far for the back leg?
@@MMAShredded gonna have to try to start using the double step low kick again in sparring. I'm just curious if you manage to see this comment again, but is there any reason in particular you wouldn't use this to set up a good body kick against a southpaw or is it just a preference thing?
Hello Jeff, I need your advice based on your experience. I am a boxer and I am confused about whether to start learning wrestling or BJJ. What do you advise me?
ill see what I can do! just an FYI, this works in every stance: orthodox vs orthodox, orthodox vs southpaw, southpaw vs orthodox and southpaw vs southpaw!
you can but the double step doesnt generate power for the body kick, it becomes a snappy kick. You can do it for the high kick though (its very karate style)
hello lemme know do i low kick up or down or in the middle like low kick straight to the leg not up not down or i just kick however i feel like it good to kick like ?
its a Dutch Muay Thai style of low kicking. Tons of legends throw it, Jose Aldo, Corey Sandhagen, Ernesto Hoost! They don't throw the cross into the double step but they throw the lead hook into it
I’ve been caught by this pretty bad while backing up 🤣😅 it’s very sneaky. Being on the other end of it, you think you’re out of range but you aren’t lmao
WARNING: If you are a noob practicing this be very carful to not kick your opponent in the balls. If they step or you step off wrong it is right there. Be careful out there.
I used to kick hard with loud noise which was like slapping heavybags Started to realize my shin should touch my opponent bone all the way through I would imagine Im kicking invisible heavybag next to the actual heavy bag Now my knees fucked
I do this exact same lowkick however instead of using the cross, I use the left hook so that their weight goes onto the lead leg. I have trouble doing it in sparring though because I’m afraid of kicking my partners too hard. 😂

do not do low kick when oponent is close, do hip sweep instead. After low kick, do not run, let them come close and do hip sweep.
