The John Muir Trail | Day 3: Upper Cathedral Lake - Lyell Canyon
Today started the way last night left off. Marveling over the mountain and the lake and the birds. It is absolute magic here in the morning.
After leaving the lake, it was a nice, slow walk over to Tuolumne Meadows where I visited Soda Spring and Parsons Memorial Lodge. I really hope to get Lily up here soon! There’s so much I want to show her.
I stopped at the post office to pick up my resupply package. The store wasn’t open because it was destroyed in last years historic snowfall, but the guy working at the PO was as hospitable and nice as can be! They were doing lots of construction and expect the store to be open in a week or so.
After that it was a long and flat walk through beautiful Lyell Canyon. It’s such a cool walk through there along the winding river and mountain on the other side of the canyon. Eventually, I arrived at my campsite which is right before the start of the climb up Donahue Pass. I could see right up to Lyell glacier from there! On the other side of the canyon is a cascading series of waterfalls going down the mountain. It was great to listen to as I went to sleep!
