Thanks for posting everything you're working on and making plans available. There is no lack of content on here but you're doing a great job in keeping things really simple and straightforward which is refreshing!
And I’ve built your cedar bench fyi. Made some changes and recessed the interior panels. Looks great and family loves it. Got into sketchup which has been a game changer taking out trial and error and guessing game.
This DIY modern outdoor sofa, aka "The Falcon Wing Sofa," is seriously impressive! The sleek design and innovative folding mechanism make it a standout piece for any outdoor space. Your step-by-step instructions were super clear and easy to follow, making it seem totally doable for DIY enthusiasts like myself. Can't wait to give it a try and add some stylish comfort to my patio! 🛋
Don't know if you know but since it's for outdoor use that's why it is good to put sealer, spray it to make the water repel. And stain will also been awesome. Beautiful work other then that.
Thanks! Good points and certainly would be a must for pine or other wood. With cedar, finish isn't as critical, but I am finding these different projects with teak oil after the cedar grays out. I've debated on if I should put a video out on it.
i always felt modern furnishings were more square to save money in production, and seeing how accessible it is to make this crap myself, i am tempted to do this for people as house warming gifts
I love it. I got me someone to build me a Pergola and they will be doing 2 large sectional couches and I want the back and seating to be slanted. It's the most comfortable seating. Also he will build 2....2 seater couches to store my cushions.
I finished it with outdoor polyurethane. Probably if I had used a sprayer it would have worked better/ had a more comprehensive coating, but it's still not ideal imo.
Yeah I would use some heavy duty finish from a company like Total Boat. However if you didn't start already I would suggest the cedar route and oil finish. Good luck!
You would need to add a leg at the desired length and ensure there is a falcon wing support at that location as well. I think you could make it look pretty good.
I mean even without glueing stuff together, you could probably do something similar as long as you have some longer boards. Give it a shot and send me a finished picture of it!!
Nice looking sofa. Personally, if I were building one of these I would put a 1x6 on each armrest and along the backrest and I would put the bottom 2x4 of each end the full dimension from front to rear rather than between the front and rear and put stand-offs to keep the sofa apart from the concrete floor about 1" or 1 1/2".
Hey - this can easily be built in a day or a weekend. Cost will vary a lot depending what type of wood you use. I may have included that in the video description though.
Just got to watch this video now few years later I guess but that’s not the point , the point is your a great chap and my recommendation is you should have been a collage teacher , teaching the carpentry and joinery skills & qualifications, my subscription , likes , and shares are with you good look and well done mate
if you were to make these and sell them would you still use the pocket holes? really not just for this project but for anything you would make and sell?
@@NATHANBUILDS I’ve built it on the weekend! Everything you described and shared was so helpful and I can’t begin to tell you how much we love the outcome! If I could add pictures I would
Thanks! I think at the time not more than 100$ for the wood. Probably closer to 70. The 2x4s are 10 each and the pickets are 2.50. Prices for cedar have gone up by but by too much. I got mine at lowes
Like this sofa build over the original, but would 105° back rest be more comfortable than it being 90° with the seat? I like how the original wasn’t just 90°.
Hey sorry, you're comment got caught in the spam filter. You could easily make the adjustment - however having used this for a few weeks now I can say I have not noticed it to be an issue. Although I am using cushions so that might be one reason.
Hi! Unfortunately I'm not sure where to purchase these woodworking tools in Indonesia. Anywhere that sells home improvement type products should have some of them. Good luck!
Less material and aesthetics. The first one I made used 2x4 and it was definitely stronge, but with the additional supports I added, this version is super solid as well.
Thanks! That is the Kreg K5, but there are cheaper options too. Here you go and check video description for more details: - Pocket Hole Jig (entry level) - Kreg Jig R3: amzn.to/2zujqID - Pocket Hole Jig (heavy duty) - Kreg Tool K5 Master System: amzn.to/2LdTVOm
Hola saludos desde PERU gracias por mostrar espectacular video de cómo podemos hacer este bellísimo mueble ..saludos y bendiciones y que sigan los exitos
It will vary greatly depending on the wood type and even the specific cedar 2x wood you get. But mine is about maybe 50 lbs. I can easily carry it myself.

If it helps, it's still holding up really well!
Literally what I've been looking for the past 2 hours. Great work!
Nic sofa set I will try make this sofa
Good luck and thanks for watching!
Nic video
Love the video bro
Going to build it this year, no one can stop me from this DIY project not even my wife.
Good luck! Mine still looks great.

I just discovered this channel. Looks like he has some cool videos on the playlist
That table saw/ miter saw allignment really is one of those things that make your soul feel good !!!!!! hahaha
Hey i
Ahh good old days when wood was cheap. Nice build.
Cedar is still cheap!
Sierto 😮
I love to watch videos of projects that I will never create 🥰
Great build, I love that you showed your mistakes.
Thanks for watching!
Watching from South Africa❤❤❤
Thanks Nathan - I'm going to try this out

Sounds awesome!!
Thank you for showing this great project. I will send photos once built!
Looking forward to it!!
did you finish that previous pine sofa? Or did it rot like this even with finish?
Maybe it was directly udner the rain?
I finished it with outdoor polyurethane. Probably if I had used a sprayer it would have worked better/ had a more comprehensive coating, but it's still not ideal imo.
It was also under direct rain and sun. But cedar holds up much better even without finish.
@@NATHANBUILDS What would you advice as a finish for pine outdoor sofa if not poly (that you used)?
Paint? oil? Some impregnant against the moisture?
Yeah I would use some heavy duty finish from a company like Total Boat. However if you didn't start already I would suggest the cedar route and oil finish. Good luck!
Another cool build Nathan! I like the falcon wing design of the backrest with no bottom rail, just glue and pocket screws. That's dope.
Thanks!!

very good job friend can you make a video with the measurements, I want to try to do it
Check out the video description for measurements! Good luck!
Hi , if you wanted to make this able to be two halves that could join together easily and take apart how would you modify it ?
You would need to add a leg at the desired length and ensure there is a falcon wing support at that location as well. I think you could make it look pretty good.
@@NATHANBUILDS Thank you.
Nice build. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.
Thanks Lawrence!
I love how clean and simple this chair is... I wonder if I can build it with pallets.
With a couple modifications I'm sure you can. Might need to laminate some stuff together though.
@@NATHANBUILDS oh wow.. I have never laminate anything before.. That could be interesting.
I mean even without glueing stuff together, you could probably do something similar as long as you have some longer boards. Give it a shot and send me a finished picture of it!!

Simple and useful, I would like to make it too in the future, thanks for the video

Is it possible to get drawings in mm? I downloaded it, but can't see most of the sizes.
Thats so cool. I will try to make it. You doing good job man
Thanks for the feedback- good luck on the build!!
Did you mention What cushions these are ?
Yes IKEA

God I love your sofa. Was looking for this build and comparing one with antoher. Going to repeat your project
Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
You look like Sam Morril! Great build!
Ha! I can see it. And thanks!
How much time did it take you to do this project and cost ? Can this be done in a day ? Let’s say over the weekend ?
Hey - this can easily be built in a day or a weekend. Cost will vary a lot depending what type of wood you use. I may have included that in the video description though.
I wonder how this would do with kids jumping on it. the falcon wings don't seem that supportive. I love the look though. thanks!
So far so good
Thanks!! I need outdoor furniture for my house but with two Littles it's so expensive to buy sturdy pieces. I will definitely attempt to make this.
Squirrel!!
oh, btw nice project.
Thanks! 🤘
How has the floating seat joint held up over the years?
Still looks great!
Does that hair gel work good?
I use a hair moisturizer which feels more natural and didn't get hard 🖖
Why is everything nailed AND glued? Are the screws not enough?
If you just used pocket holes you should be ok. The glue adds extra strength.
AMZING WORKS THERE!
Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful work bro
Good Job Nathan

if you were to make these and sell them would you still use the pocket holes? really not just for this project but for anything you would make and sell?
It depends on the price point. There is definitely a time and place for pocket holes.
Wow, Hello my friend.. All the best to your channel and hope you have a wonderful day !!!
Thanks, you as well!!

Thanks!
Awesome build brother but can i have the diametres in cm ?
Check out the video description for details! I only provided it in inches so you will need to do the conversion.
@@NATHANBUILDS I can't make the change because I have no idea about inches in Greece we use centimeters if you can help me thank you!!
You can just multiply the inches measurement by 2.54 to get the cm measurement.
@@NATHANBUILDS oo okay thank you!! 🗿
Did you use cedar 2x4 or regular
Cedar on this version. Definitely worth it
Love the project. Can you tell me the lengths of pocket hole screws you used? Were the screws also Kreg screws? Thanks
Thanks! Yes 2.5" kreg outdoor pocket hole screws.
If you use thinner wood you will need a different length. All Kreg jigs come with a guide though so no guessing.

Beautiful clean cuts I love it thank for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Good form. A suggestion, the top of the arm should run from front to back to avoid end grain facing up to keep moisture out.
I thought about that but I didn't like seeing the end grain on the front. Probably more durable though that way!
That's a great job 👌
You work meticulously and practically 👏👏.
Good for your labor 💪

Why are the seats and back with a 1x8 instead of just using a 2x4?

How do you keep the screws on the horizontal supports from hitting the screws on the square end pieces ?
I just made sure they are at different locations. There is enough space to let you be flexible with those.
