When doing solo open water crossings, perhaps you should "snap into" a connecting life-line for when you venture outside the cockpit...a 30 foot tether connecting you to the boat in the event that you tumble overboard. Use a simple light cord with a carabiner on the end that you can snap onto a loop on your life jacket. In the wind and a strong current, you could find yourself separated from the boat pretty quick.
The 'role playing' is a GREAT thing to do Trip. As a former Deputy Sheriff, i did the same thing. The restaurant thing u mentioned...atra boy. To this day, i REFUSE to put my back to any entrance/door.

That boat handles well in heavy surf. Good job. I met some guys coming down the Mississippi river with a C-Dory 18 with twin 40 four strokes. She ran smooth.
You can tear a boat up quick at the landings there. Just look at all the different colors on the ramp docks there lol. Almost every boat has left a piece of itself on those docks ( including mine)

Enjoyed it Trip

I saw your mouth tape- have you read the book “Breath” by James Nestor ? I am just starting it, but your comment made me think you may have. Have you thought about putting an RV air condition on the roof and using a small generator ? I am seriously considering a C-Dory 22 for trips and back bayous, although it does look like it pounds in the chop of the gulf.
I havent... But I own and have read his book DEEP which is great. I have thought about the RV air conditioner, but don't want the generator and AC unit on my roof. I like it simple. With my solar panels, I generate more juice that I use so I can run fans all I want stay comfortable. It does pound, but still does pretty good for what it is.
